  • 150 Brands Have Joined Emmanuel Macron's “Fashion Pact” to Make
150 Brands Have Joined Emmanuel Macron’s “Fashion Pact” to Make the Fashion Industry More Sustainable AUGUST 26 , 2 019 1:4 3 PM by EMILY FARRA In July, Amber Valletta partnered with Stella McCartney and Extinction Rebellion to broadcast an urgent message about climate change. A cursory Google search for this weekend’s G7 summit pulls up headlines largely dominated by President Trump’s behavior: At Saturday’s dinner, he insisted the group reinstate Russia, which was removed from the then-G8 in 2014; he made several conflicting statements about the China tariffs; and on and on. But there’s some news that’s actually worth talking about: namely, that French president Emmanuel Macron (who hosted this year’s summit) debuted his new Fashion Pact, a set of shared objectives the fashion industry can work toward to reduce its environmental impact. This comes three months after Kering chair and CEO François-Henri Pinault revealed he’d been selected by Macron to establish those objectives and assemble a “coalition” of brands at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit. Right off the bat, PVH (which owns Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger) signed on, and at this weekend’s summit, Macron reported that 32 companies (and roughly 150 brands) have joined thus far. The Pact is noteworthy for many reasons. For starters, it’s a first-of-its- kind initiative that’s uniting the biggest names in fashion, many of whom are known competitors. Back in Copenhagen, Pinault explained: “Despite what we’re doing [to reduce our impact alone], things are not moving. We really need to define targets together.

  • Versace Owner Says Routine Cleaning Can't Stop COVID Harm by Hailey Konnath
Portfolio Media. Inc. | 111 West 19th Street, 5th Floor | New York, NY 10011 | www.law360.com Phone: +1 646 783 7100 | Fax: +1 646 783 7161 | [email protected] Versace Owner Says Routine Cleaning Can't Stop COVID Harm By Hailey Konnath Law360 (March 23, 2021, 11:19 PM EDT) -- The fashion giant behind luxury brands Versace, Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors on Tuesday hit several insurers including Zurich and Liberty Mutual with a lengthy amended complaint claiming it's owed coverage for the more than $1.2 billion in COVID-19 losses, in part because it suffered physical damages and routine cleaning can't actually kill the virus. Capri Holdings Ltd. initially sued Zurich American Insurance Co., XL Insurance America Inc., Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co. of America, Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty SE, and AIG Specialty Insurance Co. in January, telling a New Jersey state court that the company suffered "catastrophic losses" of more than $1 billion during the pandemic. The insurers have illegally refused to cover those losses under various "all-risk" commercial property insurance policies, Capri alleged. In Tuesday's beefed-up filing, Capri unleashed a deluge of scientific studies on COVID-19 that it said show the virus can't be removed or eliminated from properties by routine cleaning and has been shown to cause physical damage to materials like cloth, fabric and textiles. The virus made Capri's stores and boutiques "uninhabitable, unsafe and unfit for their intended uses," the company said, likening the virus to asbestos, ammonia or salmonella outbreaks.

At the time of writing, the COVID-19 pandemic has inflicted many losses: human, social and economic. What we are now experiencing is an unprecedented moment of crisis in modern history. However, it is during uncertain times that companies often come up with new ideas, converting the crisis into an opportunity, and adopting a long-term vision of future challenges. This prolonged disruptive situation is creating profound changes in consumer behavior and how companies are responding to these changes—prompting a debate about the future of the fashion and luxury industry. There is a general feeling of rethinking luxury and driving it in new directions, considering which business models will be feasible and more relevant in the new normal. Tradition and responsiveness, two elements that have always characterized luxury companies, will both be required to face great challenges in the post-COVID environment. We see the pandemic acting as a divider between the old way of doing business and the new scenario that is taking shape, characterized by changing consumer behavior. Hence, in this report, we talk about a new age for fashion and luxury and will explore the main trends that will drive the industry in the coming months.

Racanelli SENIOR EDITOR & MARKET INTELLIGENCE ANALYST – Wall Street, Investors Have Lost Patience With Slowing Michael Kors Sales, EPS – But 66% Stock Drop Overdone; Shares Are an Option on Versace, Jimmy Choo Growth – CPRI Makeover, Diversification Should Raise EPS, Growth and Boost Stock Price In a year that has seen the broad market soar by about 25%, shares of luxury products maker Capri Holdings (CPRI) have gone decidedly the other way. CPRI is in recovery mode this year and doesn’t get much love from either investors or Wall Street. For example, only about 40% of the analysts who follow it have a Buy rating on it. Given the Street’s typical optimistic bent, that counts as half-hearted regard at best. I see this as a positive contrarian indicator. Meanwhile, the stock action reflects market disdain. As recently as the summer of 2018, CPRI shares traded at $75, very near its all-time high. But they have since fallen by a about two-thirds to $36 lately. Why the cold shoulder? Granted, the Michael Kors business, at 75% of total sales the most important of Capri’s three main brands, has been sluggish of late, after years of powerful growth. As recently as the fiscal year ended March, 2016, Kors sales rose a solid 8% to $4.7 billion, but in fiscal 2019 Kors brand sales were $4.5 billion.
