Here is a Bara Brith type recipe that is so simple to make and it's so much my type of cake that I don't think I'll bother buying one again. (And the quantities to use are in 'old money'!!) "CUP OF TEA CAKE" Ingredients 8oz mixed fruit Half a pint of cooled strong tea Handful of dried mixed peel 8oz self-raising flour # 4oz granulated sugar 1 small egg # Tesco only had wholemeal SR flour (not to be confused with self-isolating flour - spell checker problem there! which of course means "No Flour At All!”) but the wholemeal only enhanced the taste and made it quite rustic. In a large bowl mix together the mixed fruit, mixed peel and sugar. Pour over the tea, cover and leave overnight to soak in the fridge. Next day preheat oven to 160°C/145°C fan/Gas Mark 4. Stir the mixture thoroughly before adding the flour a bit at a time, then mix in the beaten egg and stir well. Grease a 2lb/7" loaf tin and pour in the mixture. -

Horse with No Name” Paul Zollo - the Origins of the Iconic, Enigmatic Anthem, in His Own Words It’S One of the Most Famously Mysterious Songs Ever to Become a Hit
APRIL 3, 2020 Link to article: https://americansongwriter.com/behind-the-song-horse-with-no-name/ Behind The Song: America, “Horse With No Name” Paul Zollo - The Origins of the Iconic, Enigmatic Anthem, In His Own Words It’s one of the most famously mysterious songs ever to become a hit. It’s got enigma baked into it, which may be part of its lasting magic. Like Lennon’s “Norwegian Wood,” and other great though cryptic songs, it doesn’t fill in the entire picture, leaving it instead up to the listener to do that on their own. All of its components enhance this dynamic of hypnotic mystery. There’s the swampy/mystic tone of the track, ethereal yet visceral, just acoustic guitars, bass and conga with no drums. The vocal is delivered as if from a storyteller spinning an ancient mythic tale, not performing as much as testifying, and in language that resounds like coded poetry. We’re in motion the entire time, days are passing, and the heat is relentless. Elemental symbols are everywhere like images from a perplexingly real dream – a dry riverbed, appointed with plants and birds and rocks and things, and incessant sound. And, of course, there’s that mysterious horse, the one with no name, which did forever force the question: Why? Why didn’t anyone name this horse? In search of answers, we turned to the songwriting source himself, Dewey Bunnell, who spoke to us on the phone last week, the final week of March, 2020, at the start of the mandatory stay-at-home orders in California. -

Teachers' Notes Media Studies
Media Studies - TV Television in the Global Age -Teachers’ Notes • The resources are intended to support teachers delivering the new AS/A Level specification. They have been created based on the assumption that many teachers will already have some experience of Media Studies teaching and therefore the notes have been pitched at a level which takes this into consideration. Other resources which outline e.g. technical and visual codes, and how to apply these, are readily available. • There is an overlap between the different areas of the theoretical framework and the various contexts, and a ‘text-out’ teaching structure may offer opportunities for a more holistic approach. • Slides are adaptable to use with your students. Explanatory notes for teachers/suggestions for teaching are in the Teachers’ Notes. • The resources are intended to offer guidance only and are by no means exhaustive. It is expected that teachers will subsequently research and use their own materials and teaching strategies within their delivery. • Television as an industry has changed dramatically since its inception. • Digital technologies and other external factors have led to changes in production, distribution, the increasingly global nature of television and the ways in which audiences consume texts. • It is expected that students will require teacher-led delivery which outlines these changes, but the focus of delivery will differ dependent on the text chosen. Still, COPERNICUS - being himself he couldn't help but break such an innocence in the sonic terror of Photo Nothing Exists "Nagasaki", hung on an urgent, oscillating and scintillating rock 'n' roll guitar riff. It's here that the poet denies the existence of everything, him included, so "Atomic Nevermore" Links Nevermore 1984 spreads its spoken word over the emotional desert which somehow makes the listener MoonJune 2010 explore the album's dry landscape again.
