Emigranci z ziemi łomżyoskiej pochowani na amerykaoskich cmentarzach Emigrants from the Łomża region buried in American cemeteries Opracował: Tadeusz Trepanowski Sierpieo - Wrzesieo 2020r. Cmentarze to historia czasów minionych. To miejsca będące bogatym źródłem wiedzy o ludziach, którzy mieszkali na danym terenie, a później odeszli na zawsze. Na amerykaoskich cmentarzach, wśród wielu grobów czasem możemy odnaleźd polskie, znajomo brzmiące nazwiska. To groby emigrantów z ziemi łomżyoskiej. Niektórzy z nich wyemigrowali do Ameryki, mając zaledwie kilkanaście lat, inni byli jeszcze dziedmi. Obchodzony jest Memorial Day, lecz dotyczy on poległych żołnierzy i zmarłych weteranów . Cemeteries are specific places where the noise of bustling cities disappears in the silence of the tombstones, and if you do not disturb this silence, you can only hear the sound of the wind among the branches of trees and the flapping of wings of flying birds. Cemeteries are the history of bygone times. These are places that are a rich source of knowledge about people who lived in a given area and then passed away forever. In American cemeteries, among many graves, we can sometimes find Polish, familiar-sounding names. These are the graves of emigrants from the Łomża region. Some of them emigrated to America when they were just in their teens, others were still children. Even though they had established families there and their children were born there, many planned to return to Poland, but life turned out differently. They stayed overseas forever. Their traces on American soil commemorate the places where they were buried. Their memory has been preserved in the cemetery architecture and tombstone inscriptions. Some graves are not visited by anyone, because the families of the deceased often live far away in distant states of America, and in the United States, All Saints' Day is not celebrated as in Poland. Memorial Day is being celebrated, but it concerns fallen soldiers and deceased veterans. The following study is devoted to those emigrants from the Łomża region, whose graves I managed to locate in American cemeteries.
