In the politics of strange bedfellows, sometimes hunters, landowners, native tribes, and environmentalists find themselves on the same side of advocacy. However, there are big questions about the best way to live with apex predators, especially when they've been absent from much of the landscape for decades. Should grizzly bear continue to be protected under the Endangered Species Act? How many bear are the ideal number? Should they be hunted as a management tool, or are there better ways to prevent human/bear conflict? Can large predators be allowed to migrate and populate naturally, or have humans claimed too much territory to allow that? EcoSense meets with farmers, hunters, native Americans, and organizations like Greater Yellowstone Coalition where voices with varying opinions find "common ground," and sometimes put aside their different perspectives for the greater conservation good. 8:00PM American Experience Repeat of 02/22/2021 Voice of Freedom 03:00AM Explore the fascinating life of celebrated singer Marian Anderson. (Next Air 03/05/2021 12:30AM) 9:00PM Jazz - The Adventure (1955-1960) As rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll erode jazz' audience still further, the music nonetheless enjoys a time of tremendous creativity. Saxophonist Sonny Rollins makes his mark on the scene, Duke Ellington reemerges as a star after a triumphant performance at the Newport Jazz Festival and Miles Davis makes several now-legendary albums. Young trumpeter Clifford Brown achieves great artistry, but his life is cut short in a car accident. Vocalist Sarah Vaughan forever sets a standard for jazz singing. Amidst the school integration crisis in Little Rock, Arkansas, Louis Armstrong risks his career by speaking out forcefully against segregation. Drummer Art Blakey, pianist Horace Silver and other "hard bop" musicians play a soulful brand of jazz in an attempt to bring the music back to the black audience it has lost to R&B. In 1957, Billie Holiday reunites with Lester Young on a live television program, "The Sound of Jazz"; two years later, both Holiday and Young are dead. John Coltrane, after playing on Miles Davis' Kind of Blue album, forms his own quartet, scores a hit with his version of the show tune "My Favorite Things" and creates some of the most intense music in jazz history. The episode concludes with the arrival on the scene of the free-jazz pioneer, Ornette Coleman, whose music challenges all of the conventions of jazz, signals the arrival of the avant garde and provokes a debate about the definition of jazz that continues to this day. • June 2015 Honoring M
The Schwarz Report Dr. Fred Schwarz Volume 55, Number 6 Dr. David Noebel June 2015 Honoring M. Stanton Evans by Cliff Kincaid Those who assembled on March 12 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg, Virginia, to celebrate the life of conservative thinker and writer M. Stanton Evans heard several references to his monumental 1994 work, The Theme is Freedom. This book is worth remembering and re-reading as we are being treated repeatedly to the spectacle in the media of “conservatives” endorsing gay rights and gay marriage. In an illustration of what Stan called the “pagan ethic,” he cites on page 128 “the campaign to change societal views of homosexuality—to treat it as an ‘alternative lifestyle,’ as valid in its way as heterosexual conduct.” Stan comments, “Among other things, this is a reversion to pagan ways of thinking.” He cites acceptance of homosexuality in ancient civilizations such as Babylon and notes, “All of this was unequivocally condemned by the religion of the Bible.” Yet, as Austin Ruse points out in his Breitbart article, “GOP Elite Ask Supreme Court to Impose Gay Marriage on America,” a brief to celebrate homosexual “marriage” as equal to traditional marriage has been submitted to the court and signed by 300 conservatives and/or Republicans, including no less than 26 former senior Mitt Romney staffers. These so-called “conservatives,” who are not conservative in any real sense, are part of a “Project Right Side” that is designed to confuse the public about the meaning of the term. The “media” section of the website tells us how news organizations have covered the “conservative case for gay marriage.” But there is nothing “conservative” about asking the Supreme Court to impose homosexual marriage on all 50 states.

In 1993, federal law established that citizenship and age eligibility are “proven” by an applicant swearing under penalty of perjury that she is citizen age 18 or over. In 2004, Arizona voters approved an initiative requiring documentary proof of citizenship in order to register. Four other states passed similar laws and an additional five states instituted administrative procedures to purge suspected non-citizens from their voter rolls. There is very little evidence of non-citizens voting, and in most of the few cases uncovered, non-citizens without intent to commit fraud. In addition, there is evidence that the laws in Arizona and Kansas prevented more than 50,000 people from registering to vote because their applications lacked proof of citizenship, and that administrative efforts to remove registered non-citizens mistakenly identified US citizens for removal.

HOOVER DIGEST RESEARCH + OPINION ON PUBLIC POLICY SUMMER 2019 NO.3 THE HOOVER INSTITUTION • STANFORD UNIVERSITY The Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace was established at Stanford University in 1919 by Herbert Hoover, a member of Stanford’s pioneer graduating class of 1895 and the thirty-first president of the United States. Created as a library and repository of documents, the Institution approaches its centennial with a dual identity: an active public policy research center and an internationally recognized library and archives. The Institution’s overarching goals are to: » Understand the causes and consequences of economic, political, and social change » Analyze the effects of government actions and public policies » Use reasoned argument and intellectual rigor to generate ideas that nurture the formation of public policy and benefit society Herbert Hoover’s 1959 statement to the Board of Trustees of Stanford University continues to guide and define the Institution’s mission in the twenty-first century: This Institution supports the Constitution of the United States, its Bill of Rights, and its method of representative government. Both our social and economic sys- tems are based on private enterprise, from which springs initiative and ingenuity. Ours is a system where the Federal Government should undertake no govern- mental, social, or economic action, except where local government, or the people, cannot undertake it for themselves. The overall mission of this Institution is, from its records, to recall the voice of experience against the making of war, and by the study of these records and their publication to recall man’s endeavors to make and preserve peace, and to sustain for America the safeguards of the American way of life.
