Crawford 10-for-10: Bryce Crawford joined an exclusive group of San Jose State kick scorers with 10 successful kick-scoring attempts in a game. He was 9-for-9 on PAT attempts and converted a 22-yard field goal against Portland State. The single-game school record for PATs in a modern-era San Jose State game since 1950 is 10 by Jeff Carr against Rice on October 2, 2004. Another Spartan with at least 10 successful kick-scoring attempts in a game is former San Francisco 49ers kicker Joe Nedney who was 7-for-8 in PATs and kicked three field goals in a 64-45 win over Pacific in 1991.

Season captains named: Wide receiver Tim Crawley, linebacker Christian Tago, quar- terback Kenny Potter and safety Maurice McKnight were named team captains for the 2016 season. McKnight is the only non-senior among the four. Tago, yet to play a game this season while recovering from an injury, was one of four team captains last season.

Seven get the scholarship word: On August 20, seven players were placed on scholar- ship. Tight end LeVander Brown, wide receiver Tre Hartley, defensive back Chandler Hawkins, quarterback Josh Love and linebackers Mark Amann, Alex Manigo and Epie Sona were informed after the team’s scrimmage. Love is a redshirt freshman; Hartley and Hawkins, sophomores; and Brown, Amann, Manigo and Sona, seniors.

The graduate transfer: Running back Deontae Cooper from the University of Wash- ington and wide receiver Dontonio Jordan from Stanford University are two graduate transfers on the 2016 San José State football team.

San José State’s 99th season: The 2016 season marks San José State’s 99th playing college football. According to available records, the Spartans began playing football in 1893, but did not have games in 1894, 1897, 1901-20 and 1943-45.

New home stadium name: Recently, San José State and Citizens Equity First Credit Union (CEFCU, pronounced SEFF-cue) agreed to a 15-year naming rights agreement for Spartan Stadium, built in 1933, to be called CEFCU Stadium - Home of the Spartans. CEFCU and San José State Athletics first became partners in 2011 with signage on the stadium scoreboard and at the West gate entry point.
