In many ways, these stories will both confirm what Steelers fans already believe about the team, the Rooneys and the NFL in general, but it will also surprise you with the cold truth of the business aspect of the game. Easy to pick up but hard to put down, Ron Lippock put together a wonderful collection of interviews from Steelers, from past and present. I loved being able to read about the Chief and his relationship with his players, the family environment he established, and the team's evolution that took place once he passed the reigns onto his son. One of my favorite sections of the book was when the players talked about free agency and leaving the team by choice and in pursuit of a bigger payday, or by ownerships decision to move on from an aging player. Any Steelers fan or fan of the NFL and it's rich history should pick this book up! It's one of those that I'll keep in my library and continually re-read or share with friends! Steelers Takeaways approaches the Pittsburgh Steelers organization and players in a way no other book has spanning across seven decades of Steelers players, the book is comprised of personal and on-field stories. Author, Ron Lippock has conducted over 400 interviews with former Steelers from those that played in the 50's, through ones that just recently retired. These stories and memories are amassed not only from the household names like L.C. Greenwood, Donnie Shell, Antwaan Randle El, Rocky Bleier, and Tommie Maddox, but also from the hundreds of players who fought just to make the practice squad. Their contributions and struggles, successes and failures, all helped to define the Steelers as an organization just as much as the many Hall of Famers. These players discuss the adversity they faced the physical impact of the game, the stress of making and keeping one's position on the team, mentoring younger players even as they sought to take their roster spot, moving from team to team, and more. Players reveal the humor behind the game and how it affected them from the jokes teammates played on one another in the locker rooms, meeting rooms, and hotels, to the on-field pranks and antics fans are otherwise not privy to.     Media Contacts: Brady Smith 412-454-6459 [email protected] Kim Roberts 412-454-6382 [email protected] Fighting Back: Heinz History Center to Host Vietnam Veteran and Steelers Legend Rocky Bleier - Veterans receive FREE admission to this evening of story-sharing in honor of the new edition of Bleier’s “Fighting Back” - PITTSBURGH, June 18, 2019 – The Senator John Heinz History Center – “The Smithsonian’s Home in Pittsburgh” – will host Vietnam War veteran and legendary Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rocky Bleier for a special evening program on Monday, July 8 at 7 p.m. Presented in conjunction with the History Center’s The Vietnam War: 1945-1975 exhibition and the new edition of Bleier’s popular book “Fighting Back,” the program will explore the story of Pittsburgh’s best-known Vietnam War veteran. Drafted twice in 1968 – first by the Pittsburgh Steelers, then by the U.S. Army – Bleier was seriously wounded by rifle and grenade fire while serving in Vietnam. After earning a Bronze Star and returning home, Bleier worked himself from the injured reserve, to the taxi squad, to the active roster, and then, in 1974, to a starting position in the Steelers’ backfield. He helped the franchise win four Super Bowl championships in the 1970s. During the program at the History Center, Bleier will be joined by friends and associates to share inspiring stories from throughout his career: • Larry Richert, host of KDKA Radio Morning News; • John Banaszak, former Marine and three-time Super Bowl champion defensive end for the Pittsburgh Steelers; • Jon Kolb, four-time Super Bowl champion, former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman (1969-1981), and a personal trainer who works extensively with veterans injured in the line of duty; • Dr.
