Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country earlier this year the eff ects of the outbreak have reached every corner of the U.S. and has had a devasta ng impact on ci zens and businesses across the na on. The Cardinals organiza- on – along with the players and staff – immediately mobilized to donate me, money and other resources throughout Arizona to assist the individuals, busi- nesses, schools, frontline health care personnel and other organiza ons that have been so greatly aff ected by the crisis. $1 MILLION FOUNDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE AZ CORONAVIRUS RELIEF FUND On March 24, the Cardinals made a $1 million founding contribu on to the AZ Coronavirus Relief Fund. As part of the Arizona Together ini a ve launched earlier that day by Governor Doug Ducey, the fund was set upestablished to provide fi nancial support to organiza ons working to mi gate the impacts of COVID-19 in Arizona. Ini ally, it focused on the following immediate needs: Funding of Personal Protec ve Equipment (PPE) for frontline medical per- sonnel. Non-profi t organiza ons that support the most vulnerable Arizonans through food banks, homeless shelters, domes c violence facili es, and other services. Providing disadvantaged students with the technology necessary to transi on to online learning. “Like so many in our community, this unprecedented crisis has us asking what we can do to help and what might have the greatest impact,” said Cardinals Owner Michael Bidwill said of the dona on. “We are grateful for the crea on of this relief fund, are proud to support its cri cally important mission and hope that others throughout the community can join this eff ort in whatever way that they are able. As a team, we will con nue to work on addi onal ways to make a diff erence and know that as a community we will get through this challenging me together.” To assist local businesses during the crisis, the Cardinals made a $100,000 dona on to Local First Arizona, Arizona’s Coronavirus Micro Grant Fund MILLION MEALS DONATION TO LOCAL FOOD BANKS In early April, the Cardinals and State Farm partnered on an historic ini a ve to address a pressing local need arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of people seeking assistance from local food banks more than doubled as a re- sult of the unparalleled crisis. Unfortunately, the number of dona ons to them decreased just as drama cally. As part of their on-going commitment to improve the local community, State Farm and the Cardinals helped tackle the issue by dona ng over a million 1,000,000 meals that were distributed to fi ve non-profi t organiza ons through- out the Valley. The fi ve groups involved in the “Million Meal” dona on were: St. Mary’s Food Bank St. Vincent DePaul United Food Bank Phoenix Rescue Mission Midwest Food Bank ORGANIZATION LAUNCHES “CARDINALS CARRYOUT” INITIATIVE TO ASSIST INDEPENDENT, LOCALLY OWNED RESTAURANTS On April 13 the team launched “Cardinals Carry-out” - an unprecedented ini a ve with a dual purpose: assist independent, locally-owned restaurants hit hard by the coronavirus crisis and recognize those working on the front lines of the pandemic in the medical community, law enforcement and emergency services. Cardinals players and fans nominated their favorite establishments for inclusion on the team’s interac ve statewide map and supported them with take-out business. In the spirit of the NFL Dra , the team selected establishments from the map each day and purchased meals which were delivered to nurses, doctors, fi rst responders and others who work daily to combat the impact of COVID-19. When it was launched, the fi rst 47 establishments on the map refl ected the favorites of Car- dinals players and staff as well as those near area hospitals suggested by Local First Arizona. Within the fi rst week, over 800 restaurants throughout the state have been added based on recommenda ons from fans. “It’s great that a major sports team would put together such a thing that is community driven and helps restaurants navigate these tough mes…we’re kind of in survival mode but we’re going to make it out," said Chris Hove, owner of Perfect Pear Bistro in Chandler which was recommended by defensive lineman Zach Allen. HOSTING CRITICAL BLOOD DRIVES, DRIVETHROUGH TESTING AND PPE DRIVES AT STATE FARM STADIUM One area hit par cularly hard by the COVID-19 crisis was the local blood dona on community, where the supply reached cri cally low levels during a crucial me in March. In a seven-day span between March 19 and March 26, nearly 200 blood drives in Arizona were cancelled, resul ng in the loss of more than 5,000 blood dona ons for hospital pa ents. To assist in mee ng this direly pressing need, the Cardinals partnered with Dignity Health and Cigna to host a major one-day blood drive at State Farm Stadium. In conjunc on with Sco sdale- based Vitalant (pronounced “vye-TAL-ent” and formerly known as United Blood Services) the event took place at State Farm Stadium on March 31. All dona on slots for the drive were fi lled within hours of the event being announced. The outpouring of support from the community resulted in two addi onal blood drives being scheduled at State Farm Stadium. On back-to-backs on April 7-8, in conjunc on with the Ameri- can Red Cross, the Cardinals partnered with Anheuser-Busch to host blood drives at State Farm Stadium and all dona on slots were again fi lled. On April 15, the Cardinals and Project C.U.R.E hosted a Personal Protec ve Equipment (PPE) drive at State Farm Stadium. The event was to help collect equipment for use by those in the local healthcare community, including eye protec on, face shields, surgical masks, N95 masks, gloves, shoe covers and hand sani zer.
