In 2017, the second annual Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs were supposed to be a walk in the park for World Golf Hall of Fame member Bernhard Langer, who entered the three-event, season-ending series with fi ve victories on the year, including three major championship titles. After winning the fi rst two Playoff events – the Dominion Energy Charity Classic and PowerShares QQQ Championship – to remain at No. 1 in the standings, Langer was upstaged by Kevin Sutherland at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, which was contested at Phoenix Country Club for the fi rst time. Sutherland posted a 15-under 198 total to earn his fi rst career PGA TOUR Champions title, as well as the Charles Schwab Cup, after moving from No. 5 to No. 1 in the standings following the points reset. The victory was one of 15 top-10 fi nishes for Sutherland in 2017. Langer, who fi nished the week in Phoenix at T12, fi nished second in the Charles Schwab Cup.
