Our Time Here

Our home is in a great location, we are 800 metres from the beach at the beautiful Westbrook Bay, while we are between the towns of Margate and Westgate. We have the choice to walk to Westgate, which is a lovely town with a 1950s cinema and shops of all description or into Margate for busier day and nightlife entertainment. In addition to the several local shops Westwood Cross is only a ten-minute drive away with department stores, a casino, restaurants and a cinema. Travel links either from Margate or Westgate train station connect us to , so we feel our home is in a really convenient setting.

The character of our home is clear for all to see, we have a thatched roof onto which we have recently added a bespoke fox and pheasant – they are a real talking point for people and the locals know our home as a landmark. This property was built in the 1920s by a builder who acquired a magnificent stained glass window, outer stones and columns from a local fortification called Dent-de-Lion – local historians have come to take photos of the stained glass, which measures around eight-foot. Within the grounds of our home we have a two-bed cottage which we have used as a rental property – it blends in well with the house and provides a versatile space to be used however you would like.

We enjoy entertaining family and friends here as there is a good flow between the rooms. We start in the kitchen, which was recently installed, then onto the oak-panelled dining room, which has been furnished to complement the atmosphere, and then finally to the living room. The spaces are versatile throughout the year – the living room has an inglenook fireplace, with a log burner and access to the front garden, while the back garden, with a pond and patio, is a fantastic place to relax with a book.

There are some fabulous beach bars within walking distance, while many of the pubs and restaurants welcome dogs too which is great for us – we love the variation of what is on offer. The promenade stretches for 34-miles which is perfect for walking and cycling. So with all that in mind we are going to miss the convenience of being so close to all that we need and the people around us as we have made some lovely friends during our time here.
