If 2020 was the summer where everyone stayed home, 2021 will be the one where people can’t wait to get back out. With Memorial Day Weekend approaching, what are country radio’s programmers seeing as the singles for this season? “I think three are shaping up to be summer soundtracks with Luke Bryan’s ‘Waves’ front and center,” says Audacy Country Format Captain Tim Roberts. “It’s a super-chill track that captures summer and fun beautifully.” Also on Roberts’ summer fun list: Brian Kelley’s “Beach Cowboy,” “which I think is where a lot of brains drift toward daydreaming about summer beach fun,” and Old Dominion’s new “I Was on a Boat That Day.” (Continued on page 4) COUNTRY INSIDER TOP 5: WGAR’s “Wazz & Carletta” Look Back On Morning Show Pairing Ahead Of First Anniversary. • Bobby Bones: the Cover Story
(5.11.20) - https://www.soundslikenashville.com/featured/bobby-bones-cover-story/ Bobby Bones: The Cover Story WRITTEN BY CHRIS PARTON MAY 11, 2020 For funnyman media personality Bobby Bones – arguably the most popular host in country radio and the reigning ACM and CMA On-Air Personality of the Year – the COVID-19 pandemic has been anything but normal. Like many others, he and the cast of The Bobby Bones Show have been locked out of their workplace for over a month as they deal with a complete upheaval of their lives … but unlike the rest of us, he’s in a position to help brighten these dark times. “I’m lucky I get to work,” Bones tells Sounds Like Nashville, chatting by phone the morning after still more disorder – an overnight storm which downed power lines in his yard, killing power and forcing him back to the office for the first time since stay-at-home orders were given. “I’m trying to maintain a sense of normalcy so if people want to check in, even though it’s not normal, you can listen to the radio show and still feel normal. … I think my job is to be consistent in an inconsistent time.” But for a guy who’s also a rising TV star, a best-selling author, a successful touring musician and a dedicated philanthropist, consistency means trying new things. With that in mind, Bones has somehow found a way to launch yet another project – an internet-based gameshow fittingly titled Super Easy Trivia. Simultaneously one of the lowest low-budget gameshows in recent memory, and one of the most engaging, accessible and entertaining, it finds Bones doing his best makeshift-Bob Barker, taking over a Zoom chat with his shaky home-Internet connection and a handful of contestants to do just what its title suggests – answer super easy trivia questions.

  • 2020 Tennessee General Election Results
2020 Tennessee General Election Results President: As the nation awaits to see who the next President will be Tennessee was quickly called for President Trump Tuesday evening. Though the President underperformed in Tennessee compared to his numbers in 2016, he still decidedly carried the State with 61% of the vote. Joe Biden carried only three counties in Tennessee: Davidson, Shelby and Haywood. U.S. Senate: Just as Tennessee voting Red for President Trump was no surprise; it was no surprise that Republican Bill Hagerty won big against Democrat Marquita Bradshaw. Bill Hagerty will replace retiring Senator Lamar Alexander. Bill Hagerty is a lifelong Tennessean who has filled various roles in the private sector with a great deal of success and has served as Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commission under Governor Haslam and U.S. Ambassador to Japan under President Trump. Hagerty received the endorsement of President Trump and defeated Dr. Manny Sethi in the primary. U.S. House: All eight of Tennessee’s incumbents were re-elected with little opposition. Tennessee will have a new face in Congress in Diana Harshbarger, who won the Republican Primary for Congressional District 1 to fill the seat left open by retiring Congressman Phil Roe. Diana is a pharmacist from Kingsport. State Senate: Senate District 20: Senator Steve Dickerson, a Republican from Nashville was defeated by Democrat Heidi Campbell, mayor of Oak Hill. Experts knew this race would be close as the district is a democrat district by close to 9 points. Though Senator Dickerson was a left leaning Republican, his voting record was not enough to save him from the anti-Trump voter turnout seen in Davidson County.

The governor’s office is not up for election this year, nor are Tennessee’s two U.S. Senate seats. EAST TN CONGRESSIONAL RACES • Stuart Starr (D) will challenge Rep. John Duncan (R) for U.S. House Dist. 2. It is very likely Duncan will hold on to the seat. See more on the Congressional races later in this guide. EAST TN GENERAL ASSEMBLY RACES • Sen. Becky Duncan Massey (R) is unopposed for her state Senate District 6 seat. • Gloria Johnson (D) will challenge incumbent Eddie Smith (R) for State Rep. District 13 in the general election. Johnson is Smith’s predecessor, having held the seat from 2012 to 2014. District 14 in the general election. • Pete Drew (I) will challenge Democrat Rick Staples for State Rep. District 15 in the general election. Incumbent Joe Armstrong (D) resigned from the seat in August, after being convicted on federal tax evasion charges. Staples was selected to run in Armstrong’s stead. • Resurfacing in a Pandemic: Why Radio Re-Embraced Parmalee. It All Begins with a Song
2021 March 15 CountryInsider.com | Sign Up For Daily Email Here Resurfacing In A Pandemic: Why Radio Re-Embraced Parmalee. It all begins with a song. When Steve Stewart, director of operations for Cox Media Group Orlando and PD at “K92.3” WWKA, first heard Parmalee’s “Just the Way” feat. Blanco Brown in October 2019, he knew the band had a hit on its hands. It took more than a year for other stations to agree. Parmalee, who first played Stewart the song on a tour bus after an Orlando show, is No. 1 on this week’s Mediabase country chart — eight years after last topping the chart with “Carolina” in 2013. The band released “Just the Way” December 2019 and WWKA became the first station to add it the following month. • HBO: Brand Management and Subscriber Aggregation: 1972-2007
1 HBO: Brand Management and Subscriber Aggregation: 1972-2007 Submitted by Gareth Andrew James to the University of Exeter as a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in English, January 2011. This thesis is available for Library use on the understanding that it is copyright material and that no quotation from the thesis may be published without proper acknowledgement. I certify that all material in this thesis which is not my own work has been identified and that no material has previously been submitted and approved for the award of a degree by this or any other University. ........................................ 2 Abstract The thesis offers a revised institutional history of US cable network Home Box Office that expands on its under-examined identity as a monthly subscriber service from 1972 to 1994. This is used to better explain extensive discussions of HBO‟s rebranding from 1995 to 2007 around high-quality original content and experimentation with new media platforms. The first half of the thesis particularly expands on HBO‟s origins and early identity as part of publisher Time Inc. from 1972 to 1988, before examining how this affected the network‟s programming strategies as part of global conglomerate Time Warner from 1989 to 1994. Within this, evidence of ongoing processes for aggregating subscribers, or packaging multiple entertainment attractions around stable production cycles, are identified as defining HBO‟s promotion of general monthly value over rivals. Arguing that these specific exhibition and production strategies are glossed over in existing HBO scholarship as a result of an over-valuing of post-1995 examples of „quality‟ television, their ongoing importance to the network‟s contemporary management of its brand across media platforms is mapped over distinctions from rivals to 2007.
