The Committee has agreed to Ruzz Barr being the Acting President through to the AGM AGM 2014 Notice Friday 11th July 2014, 5.30 for 6pm at the CLUBHOUSE, Ilam (The day before the Crusaders play the Highlanders) The usual high class fish & chip dinner plus wine will be served at the conclusion of the meeting (cost $20 per person – pay on the night). Brian (Chub) Hays, our newest Life Member, will be speaking, after the Dinner, on the topic ‘Ramblings from 1971 to today!’ This certainly promises to be an entertaining evening 300 Club We now have 27 members of the 300 Club for 2014. If you would like to support the Rugby Club through this initiative please refer to the attachment to this Newsletter or contact Ruzz Barr Varsities Day – 17th May The annual inter-Universities rugby clash occurred on Saturday 17th May and we were hosted out at Lincoln University. The photo shows Don Davison, Steve Comer, Chub Hays and Steve Surridge partaking of the lunch generously supplied by Lincoln. In the background, between Don and Steve, we have Murray Dickson who is currently having bets on both sides - having played for Varsity and currently having a management role at Lincoln. For the record we lost the Hart- O’Reilly Trophy 13-19. Allan was a Naval Officer at the time. Old Maroons Christmas Gathering Monday 1st December 2014 from 5.30pm The Brewers Arms in Merivale High Performance is alive and well at UCRFC with Canterbury ITM Cup squad members – 3 from Varsity - Patrick Osborne, Kieran Read and Luke Whitelock. Other NPC – 7 more from Varsity with Mitchell Graham (Prop) – Taranaki, Matt Moulds (Hooker) – Northland, James Lentjes (Open Side Flanker) – Otago, Brendon O’Connor (Open Side Flanker) – Hawkes Bay (Captain) AND Ranfurly Shield Winner (30th August vs. Counties 27-21), Michael Allardice (Lock) – Hawkes Bay, Jimmy Tupou (Lock) – Counties, Jamie Verran (Fullback, Wing) – Southland. The Varsity Women’s Team won the Club Final against HSOB 70-0. This is the first year that Mark Meates has coached the girls. The Meates whanau were very loud in their support - particularly when Harriet took to the pitch.     UNEXPECTED EVENTS & BRAND LOYALTY THE CASE OF CRUSADERS RUGBY CLUB by Paula Rochelle Ash A thesis submitted to Victoria University of Wellington in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Masters in Marketing Victoria University of Wellington 2020 Abstract Prompted by the Christchurch mosque massacres of March 2019, considerable concern was expressed by society around the world, and New Zealand in particular, about anything that might provoke further attacks on Muslims. Consequently, the branding of the Crusaders rugby club in Christchurch came under scrutiny - and became the topic of this research. The research questions were: which brand elements of a sports team would have the greatest impact on attitude to that brand and consequently the brand loyalty; and how will time and an unexpected event change attitudes to a brand, especially the influence of brand elements? Although indications are that sports related brand elements should influence brand attitude and in turn positively influence brand loyalty, this has never been researched against the backdrop of an unexpected event. Adopting a post-positivist approach, a quantitative study was undertaken to answer the research questions. An anonymous online survey yielded 361 usable responses, of which 103 were from Crusaders fans. The analysis was conducted as two studies: (1) the whole participant group and (2) only the Crusaders fans. Study one provided demographic data and consumer views on sports brand elements influencing brand attitudes, either side of an unexpected event. For study two, factor analysis and structural equation modelling provided an indication of the hypothesized relationships between certain brand elements (name, logo, characters, pageantry) and past success on attitude to the brand and thence to brand loyalty.

PLAYERS IN BUSINESS DALLAS SEYMOUR Dallas Seymour Biography Dallas Seymour was born in Tokoroa and educated in the now closed, iconic St Stephens School in South Auckland. He played more than 100 Provincial games for Canterbury, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington and Bay of Plenty. He also played Super Rugby for the Hurricanes and Crusaders but is best known as the former New Zealand Seven’s captain and one of the longest serving sevens player in New Zealand. Dallas is a former All Black, New Zealand Maori DALLAS SEYMOUR player, Seven’s 1998 Commonwealth Gold Medallist. He also played in a variety of representative sides including New Zealand Colts, New Zealand Universities, the Divisional XV, North Island XV and New Zealand XV. Dallas attended his first Hong Kong Seven’s international tournament in 1998 and was a regular until 2002, playing in 35 international tournaments and two World Cup tournaments.
