Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Elise and the Gold Gloop by S.B. Davies S.B. Davies. At the age of six, my daughter was a good reader for her age, but refused to start reading “proper books” with chapters and no pictures. She was bored with “Horrid Henry” and fairies saving a rainbow yet once more and insisted that she was old enough to read proper books, but every one she tried was “too difficult”. It wasn’t she couldn’t read them, it was the concepts and storylines; they were all designed for nine and ten year olds. There was another problem too. She wanted to read about girls, yet all the books about girls we could find were twee and dull. My daughter is happy to read about a princess, along as she is a Ninja Princess; happy to save rainbows, as long as it involves a good sword fight or perhaps a well-planned heist. After a few months of this, my lovely daughter stopped reading. We tried most of the “first chapter books” that people recommend; all met with disinterest. So I asked her exactly what she wanted in a “proper book”. After much though, she wrote down: “Dragons, princess, zombies, vampires, ghosts, but not spiders and it should be funny and scary and have fighting in it.” We couldn’t find such a book with concepts and vocabulary suitable for a six year old – so I wrote one. I had written novels before, but not a children’s book, so I had help from my daughter to find the right level.

The Carbiner “For sport and for good fellowship” The Mid Winter (Sthn Hemisphere) Edition - Number 9 for 2017 – July 4 VIC, HK & NSW News in this Edition and special note re Suzy Halbish The Carbine Club AGM, Delegates Meeting & Annual Dinner (from Graham Halbish, Secretary The Carbine Club) The Carbine Club has completed a busy two months. Firstly the AGM in May was supported by a strong showing of members to hear the 2016 Annual Report delivered by President Graeme Johnson and Treasurer, Fred Bayne. Andrew Cannon, chair of the Finance & Donations Committee provided a summary of activities for the year, highlighting contributions to the Victorian Institute for Sport and Disabled Sport & Rec, both long term beneficiaries of Carbine Club funded programs. Representatives from both organisations were present by invitation. CC member Nicole Livingstone did a great job with her interviews of Annabel Smith, Bronze medalist in diving at Rio and Richard Amon, CEO of Disabled Sport & Rec, who related how the support by CC gave many young people the chance to participate and be recognised in their sporting endeavours. A good lunch was followed by the irrepressible Leon Wiegard doing the rounds of the room chatting with several present, much to the enjoyment of all. A hectic month of preparation for the Annual Delegates meeting & Annual Dinner followed, the former highlighted by the launch of the new CC website, incorporating online facilities for all Clubs. There was also much positive discussion and information exchange by all delegates, giving a clear impression that the “Spirit of Carbine” was alive and well.

  • AFL Vic Record Week 4.Indd
VFL Round 1 14 - 17 April 2017 $3.00 Photo: Cameron Grimes New VFL season begins Welcome to season 2017 in the Peter Jackson VFL. Plenty has happened since last September when Footscray was crowned premier. We have seen 13 VFL players provided with an AFL opportunity, selected in the 2016 NAB AFL national and rookie draft s. Casey and Geelong both produced three draft ees, with Coburg, Footscray and North Ballarat providing two draft ees each. The pleasing aspect has been seeing the likes of Tom Stewart, Mitch Hannan, Robbie Fox and Tim Smith debut in the early rounds of the AFL season. The competition this year will feature 14 clubs, with Frankston not provided a VFL licence for the 2017 season. The club has had a rich history of providing a pathway and opportunities for footballers in the region – none more evident than the debut for Sydney in recent weeks of 2014 Fothergill-Round Medal winner Nic Newman. However, it was decided at the end of last year that without the necessary off -field structures in place, AFL Victoria was not confident financial projections provided by the club could be met. We have a strong willingness to ensure there is a VFL presence in the region into the future, but it must be viable and sustainable both on and off the field in the long term. This has been highlighted in the regular communication AFL Victoria has had with the new board at the club. In other pre-season news, at the VFL Season Launch last week we revealed there will be a triple-header of matches for the 2017 Victorian state league Grand Final day at Etihad Stadium on Sunday September 24.
