The Truth About Angels
PROJECT CONNECT PROJECT CONNECT PROJECT CONNECT The Truth About Angels by Donald L. Deffner I grew up during the Great Depression in the early 1930s. My father was a minister. Behind our small home was a dirt alley which led nine blocks to downtown Wichita, Kansas. I can remember when I was a boy the hungry, destitute men who came to the back door begging for food. My mother never turned them down. She shared what little we had, even if only a couple of pieces of bread and a glass of milk. My mother didn’t just say, “Depart in peace! I’ll pray for you! Keep warm and well fed!” (See James 2:16.) No. She acted. She gave. Often I was curious about these mysterious and somewhat scary men. I had a sense that they were “different” than I was, not worse, not better, just different. I always watched these strangers heading back up the alley toward downtown, and sometimes, in a cops-and-robbers fashion, I secretly followed them, jumping behind bushes so I wouldn’t be seen. I think I half expected them to suddenly disappear. After all, my Sunday school teacher, encouraging us to be kind and care for strangers, told us the Bible says that, by doing so, many people have entertained angels without knowing it (see Hebrews 13:2). I never saw any of the men disappear. They were ordinary, hungry human beings. But my Sunday school teacher was right. God does send His angels to us, and they do interact with us—not just to test us and see if we are kind, but to protect us and guide us. -
The Doctrine of Angels Part
1 TTHE DDOCTRINE OF AANGELS PPART 22 HOW ARE ANGELS ORGANIZED? Although the Bible doesn’t describe in detail the hierarchy within the angelic realm, enough evidence exists to show that some organization exists Classification 1. Archangel – the highest ranking angel Michael is the only angel designated archangel and may possibly be the only one of this rank His name means “who is like God?” Apparently, Michael is one of the chief princes (see #2 below) As the chief angel of God, he especially watches over Israel (Daniel 10:13, 21; 12:1) and leads the holy angels (Revelation 12:7) Jude 9~ But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil 1 Thessalonians 4:16 ~ For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 2. Chief Princes Daniel 10:13 ~ But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia. 3. Rulers, Authorities, Thrones, Dominions, Powers Colossians 1:16 ~ whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things have been created by Him 4. Cherubim Cherubim are the highest group/order of angels, created with great powers and beauty Their main purpose is to proclaim and protect God’s glorious presence and sovereignty Genesis 3:24 ~ east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim Exodus 25:22 ~ There I will meet with you; and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, I will speak to you about all that I will give you in commandment for the sons of Israel. -
Angelology Angelology
Christian Angelology Angelology Introduction Why study Angels? They teach us about God As part of God’s creation, to study them is to study why God created the way he did. In looking at angels we can see God’s designs for his creation, which tells us something about God himself. They teach us about ourselves We share many similar qualities to the angels. We also have several differences due to them being spiritual beings. In looking at these similarities and differences we can learn more about the ways God created humanity. In looking at angels we can avoid “angelic fallacies” which attempt to turn men into angels. They are fascinating! Humans tend to be drawn to the supernatural. Spiritual beings such as angels hit something inside of us that desires to “return to Eden” in the sense of wanting to reconnect ourselves to the spiritual world. They are different, and different is interesting to us. Fr. J. Heavenly Priesthood in the Apocalypse of Abraham
HEAVENLY PRIESTHOOD IN THE APOCALYPSE OF ABRAHAM The Apocalypse of Abraham is a vital source for understanding both Jewish apocalypticism and mysticism. Written anonymously soon after the destruction of the Second Jerusalem Temple, the text envisions heaven as the true place of worship and depicts Abraham as an initiate of the celestial priesthood. Andrei A. Orlov focuses on the central rite of the Abraham story – the scapegoat ritual that receives a striking eschatological reinterpretation in the text. He demonstrates that the development of the sacerdotal traditions in the Apocalypse of Abraham, along with a cluster of Jewish mystical motifs, represents an important transition from Jewish apocalypticism to the symbols of early Jewish mysticism. In this way, Orlov offers unique insight into the complex world of the Jewish sacerdotal debates in the early centuries of the Common Era. The book will be of interest to scholars of early Judaism and Christianity, Old Testament studies, and Jewish mysticism and magic. ANDREI A. ORLOV is Professor of Judaism and Christianity in Antiquity at Marquette University. His recent publications include Divine Manifestations in the Slavonic Pseudepigrapha (2009), Selected Studies in the Slavonic Pseudepigrapha (2009), Concealed Writings: Jewish Mysticism in the Slavonic Pseudepigrapha (2011), and Dark Mirrors: Azazel and Satanael in Early Jewish Demonology (2011). THE TRIBULATION THRONE Revelation 4:1-11
THE TRIBULATION THRONE Revelation 4:1-11 Courtrooms are a very sobering place to me. The wood panelled walls, the banister separating spectators from litigants, jurors, lawyers and judge, the armed bailiff – all these impress upon me the seriousness of the courtroom. I have witnessed, firsthand, the power and authority of a judge, robed and seated above all delivering life changing judgments. Revelation chapters 4 and 5 usher us into God’s courtroom from which the most severe, earth shattering judgments will be delivered. Please turn in your Bibles and read along with me as I read Revelation 4:1-11. Revelation 4:1–11 (ESV) 1 After this (these things) I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” 2 At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. 3 And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. 4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads. 5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God, 6 and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal. -

Theology of Supernatural
religions Article Theology of Supernatural Pavel Nosachev School of Philosophy and Cultural Studies, HSE University, 101000 Moscow, Russia; [email protected] Received: 15 October 2020; Accepted: 1 December 2020; Published: 4 December 2020 Abstract: The main research issues of the article are the determination of the genesis of theology created in Supernatural and the understanding of ways in which this show transforms a traditional Christian theological narrative. The methodological framework of the article, on the one hand, is the theory of the occulture (C. Partridge), and on the other, the narrative theory proposed in U. Eco’s semiotic model. C. Partridge successfully described modern religious popular culture as a coexistence of abstract Eastern good (the idea of the transcendent Absolute, self-spirituality) and Western personified evil. The ideal confirmation of this thesis is Supernatural, since it was the bricolage game with images of Christian evil that became the cornerstone of its popularity. In the 15 seasons of its existence, Supernatural, conceived as a story of two evil-hunting brothers wrapped in a collection of urban legends, has turned into a global panorama of world demonology while touching on the nature of evil, the world order, theodicy, the image of God, etc. In fact, this show creates a new demonology, angelology, and eschatology. The article states that the narrative topics of Supernatural are based on two themes, i.e., the theology of the spiritual war of the third wave of charismatic Protestantism and the occult outlooks derived from Emmanuel Swedenborg’s system. The main topic of this article is the role of monotheistic mythology in Supernatural. -
Religious Standpoints
Animal Welfare in Context 4. Religion Introduction Positive Attitudes Towards Animal A Brief Summary of Major Religions and their Attitudes Towards Animals Religion Causing Animal Welfare Problems Further Resources Introduction Religion is all about beliefs - beliefs about creation, purpose, destiny, life, and love. What people believe or disbelieve about God and the world affects all aspects of their being, including their day-to-day behaviour. The animal protection movement is about changing and shaping people’s belief systems about animals. Religion can affect attitudes towards animals, and the way in which animals are treated, either positively or negatively. Religion can be important to the animal protection movement in different ways: - Firstly, it can be used in support of the animal protection cause. This can be particularly useful and powerful in countries where religion is important and influential. Secondly, religion is sometimes used to justify cruel treatment – and even sacrifices – of animals. Some animal protectionists fight against these cruelties carried out in the name of religion. Positive Attitudes Towards Animal All major religions of the world praise creation and acknowledge that humankind depends on nature for its own survival. They also teach compassion and love of all living creatures. Nearly all religions recognise the inherent value of animal life and the need to avoid animal suffering. Positive attitudes are probably generated from two main factors: - Firstly, because such attitudes are included in the religious texts and scriptures. Secondly, because caring and compassionate people who have become revered as religious leaders have consistently recognised that a loving and compassionate God would care about beings who desire to live and are able to experience pleasure and pain. -

The New Humanity 63 1 Intro to Spiritual Beings EPISODE 1 Many modern readers of the Bible think of God and humans as the main characters of the biblical story and spiritual beings as interesting (or weird!) background characters. But this is not how the biblical authors thought about spiritual beings. For them, spiritual beings played a significant role in their con- ception of the world and of humanity’s role within it. In this video series, and in these study notes, we’re going to take a deeper dive into the Bible’s portrayal of the spiritual realm and its inhabitants. Be pre- pared for some surprises! SECTION 1.1 Understanding spiritual beings in the Bible requires us to reorient ourselves to how the biblical authors saw the world, and to do that, we need to reconsider the story of Genesis chapter 1. a.
