Der 6,02 Kilometer lange, extrem wellige Flugplatzkurs in Zentralflorida, der zu fast einem Drittel nicht asphaltiert, sondern betoniert ist, erwies sich einmal mehr als tückisches Geläuf. Prompt taten sich der 26-jährige Hamburger und seine Teamkollegen Fabian Schiller (21, Bonn) und JC Perez (37, Kolumbien) im Mercedes-AMG GT3 von P1 Motorsports von Beginn an schwer, das Tempo der Schnellsten mitzugehen. Teambesitzer Perez kam im Qualifikationstraining über Startposition 13 in der GTD-Klasse nicht hinaus. Auch im Rennen, das wegen starken Regens während der ersten knappen Dreiviertelstunde vom Safety Car neutralisiert wurde, gelang es Perez, Schiller und Buhk nicht, sich entscheidend nach vorne zu arbeiten. Zumal sie von zwei Reifenschäden und einer Durchfahrtstrafe zusätzlich eingebremst wurden. Schon früh im Verlauf der 12-Stunden-Distanz handelte sich das kolumbianisch-deutsche Trio so einen Rundenrückstand ein, der auch bei später abtrocknender Fahrbahn nicht mehr wettzumachen war.
