Auburn University Office of Greek Life Spring, 2019 Chapter Violations/Sanctions Auburn University Office of Greek Life Spring, 2019 Chapter Violations/Sanctions The information on this website is provided in the spirit of transparency and accountability throughout the Auburn University Greek community. Disciplinary infractions are reported on this website only if a student organization is found responsible following appropriate due process procedures. For questions on incidents prior to 2017, please call the Office of Greek Life at 334-844-4600. Total Greek population: approximately 7104 members (31% of undergraduate population of Spring, 2019) Interfraternity Council: 2314 members (26 chapters) Panhellenic Council: 4477 members (18 chapters) National PanHellenic Council: 117 members (5 chapters) Multicultural Greek Council: 8 members (2 chapters) Definitions IFC: Interfraternity Council- council comprised of men’s groups. Most of these organizations are part of the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). Panhellenic: Panhellenic Council- council comprised of women’s groups. These organizations all come from the 26-member organizations that comprise the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). NPHC: National Pan-Hellenic Council- council comprised of historically African American fraternities and sororities. These organizations all come from the 9-member organizations that are part of the National Pan- Hellenic Council (NPHC). MGC: Multicultural Greek Council- national fraternities and sororities on our campus which are founded with a focus on cultural affinity. These organizations include both men’s and women’s groups. HQ: Headquarters - This is the inter/national governing body of a fraternity or sorority. While these organizations have chapters at Auburn, they are local chapters of inter/national fraternities with a central office and headquarters staff. Types of sanctions Disciplinary probation: This is an elevated warning status. Should another violation occur while this status is in place, the organization faces elevated sanctions Educational sanction: Educational sanctions including hosting representatives from HQ, campus offices, law enforcement, and other experts to speak to the chapter about issues Loss of Privilege sanction: These sanctions represent denial of specified privileges for a designated period of time including but not limited to attending an Intercollegiate Athletics sporting event, participating in an intramural or club sports activity, representing the university in an official capacity, hosting or sponsoring student organization activities/events, holding an elected or appointed student office or appointment to a university committee, and/ or entering/using a university facility. Membership review: Conducted by the HQ. Each member meets with HQ staff and is reviewed. Members who do not pass the review are expelled. Policy or procedure revision: The chapter is required to revise certain protocols, in order to reduce the likelihood of that violation being repeated. Restorative sanction: These sanctions require a chapter to make an injured party whole. This may include financial restitution for damages or letters of apology. Social probation: The organization may not host social events. Minutes of the original meeting, Constitution and Ritual have been preserved by the Fraternity to this day. Our tradition is truly continuous. Christopher “Kit” Waite, whose father was destined to become Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, was from Toledo, Ohio. Peter Fox from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Thomas Raymond, a “downeasterner” from Westborough, Massachusetts, together with Waite, were the only Founders from out of state. Nathaniel Starbuck was a “local” from the campus town of Troy whose father, a leading citizen of the town, was often called upon to address public meetings to arouse popular support for the Lincoln administration. The remaining Founders were all New Yorkers: George Brainerd from Brooklyn; Samuel Buel, Jr., from Poughkeepsie; Ralph Packard from Niagara Falls and Henry Farnum from Port Jervis.     Timeline of Fraternities and Sororities at Texas Tech 1923 • On February 10th, Texas Technological College was founded. 1924 • On June 27th, the Board of Directors voted not to allow Greek-lettered organizations on campus. 1925 • Texas Technological College opened its doors. The college consisted of six buildings, and 914 students enrolled. 1926 • Las Chaparritas was the first women’s club on campus and functioned to unite girls of a common interest through association and engaging in social activities. • Sans Souci – another women’s social club – was founded. 1927 • The first master’s degree was offered at Texas Technological College. 1928 • On November 21st, the College Club was founded. 1929 • The Centaur Club was founded and was the first Men’s social club on the campus whose members were all college students. • In October, The Silver Key Fraternity was organized. • In October, the Wranglers fraternity was founded. 1930 • The “Matador Song” was adopted as the school song. • Student organizations had risen to 54 in number – about 1 for every 37 students. o There were three categories of student organizations: . Devoted to academic pursuits, and/or achievements, and career development • Ex. Aggie Club, Pre-Med, and Engineering Club . Special interest organizations • Ex. Debate Club and the East Texas Club . Social Clubs • Las Camaradas was organized. • In the spring, Las Vivarachas club was organized. • On March 2nd, DFD was founded at Texas Technological College. It was the only social organization on the campus with a name and meaning known only to its members. • On March 3rd, The Inter-Club Council was founded, which ultimately divided into the Men’s Inter-Club Council and the Women’s Inter-Club Council.

    The Fraternity and Sorority Newsletter | JULY 2018 The Phota (the Greek word for lights) is a publication of the Valparaiso University Panhellenic and Interfraternity Councils Valparaiso University Officially Welcomes Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. With more than 500 people in attendance, the Valparaiso University Fraternity and Sorority Community welcomed six new members into the family as the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. hosted their inaugural New Member Show in May 2018. The show was the official announcement of the six Founding Fathers of the Valparaiso University chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, the first historically African- American fraternity or sorority to be established at Valparaiso University. Elias Earley, C.J. Elion, Jalin Leandre, Glenndon Bone, Montel Hall, and Tyler Tanzymore made history on May 5, 2018 as they were introduced to the Valparaiso University community as the Founding Fathers of our new Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. chapter. The men are members of the Delta Iota Colony that is sponsored by the Ball State University Kappa Alpha Psi chapter, and the men are advised by the Kappa Alpha Psi Gary Alumni Chapter. These men completed the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Membership Training Academy program in South Bend, Indiana with all of the other chapters in the North Central Province. The men have completed officer elections and are looking forwarding to operating as a full chapter within the Valparaiso University fraternity and sorority community starting in the fall 2018 semester.
