Office of Greek Life Spring, 2019 Chapter Violations/Sanctions

The information on this website is provided in the spirit of transparency and accountability throughout the Auburn University Greek community. Disciplinary infractions are reported on this website only if a student organization is found responsible following appropriate due process procedures. Total Greek population: approximately 7104 members (31% of undergraduate population of Spring, 2019) Interfraternity Council: 2314 members (26 chapters) Panhellenic Council: 4477 members (18 chapters) National PanHellenic Council: 117 members (5 chapters) Multicultural Greek Council: 8 members (2 chapters)

Definitions IFC: Interfraternity Council- council comprised of men’s groups. Most of these organizations are part of the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). Panhellenic: Panhellenic Council- council comprised of women’s groups. These organizations all come from the 26-member organizations that comprise the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). NPHC: National Pan-Hellenic Council- council comprised of historically African American fraternities and sororities. These organizations all come from the 9-member organizations that are part of the National Pan- Hellenic Council (NPHC). MGC: Multicultural Greek Council- national fraternities and sororities on our campus which are founded with a focus on cultural affinity. These organizations include both men’s and women’s groups. HQ: Headquarters - This is the inter/national governing body of a fraternity or sorority. While these organizations have chapters at Auburn, they are local chapters of inter/national fraternities with a central office and headquarters staff.

Types of sanctions Disciplinary probation: This is an elevated warning status. Should another violation occur while this status is in place, the organization faces elevated sanctions Educational sanction: Educational sanctions including hosting representatives from HQ, campus offices, law enforcement, and other experts to speak to the chapter about issues Loss of Privilege sanction: These sanctions represent denial of specified privileges for a designated period of time including but not limited to attending an Intercollegiate Athletics sporting event, participating in an intramural or club sports activity, representing the university in an official capacity, hosting or sponsoring student organization activities/events, holding an elected or appointed student office or appointment to a university committee, and/ or entering/using a university facility. Membership review: Conducted by the HQ. Each member meets with HQ staff and is reviewed. Members who do not pass the review are expelled. Policy or procedure revision: The chapter is required to revise certain protocols, in order to reduce the likelihood of that violation being repeated. Restorative sanction: These sanctions require a chapter to make an injured party whole. This may include financial restitution for damages or letters of apology. Social probation: The organization may not host social events. Suspension: The organization is not recognized by the university and/or the organization has closed the chapter.
