LONGSIDE make their second visit to The Canniepairt and again the occasion is a North End Centenary Cup tie . The f ir s t visit was March 1995 when Tayport recorded a 4-0 victory .

In the three seasons since then the club from just outside has consistently finished in the top half of the Premier Division . This season looks like being no different. Indeed, with Longside currently topping the table, the BUILDER & JOINER committee will be hoping that a champion s hip is beckoning. Longside carry one of the biggest player pools in the Junior game - 25 all told - and their most rec e nt acquisiti on is a nam e which has its own little place in Scottish football hi s tory - John Hewitt. Hewitt, of course netted the winning goal when beat Real Madrid in the final of the 1983 European Cup Winners CARNOUSTIE Cup. On the way to Davidson Park, Longside, John has included Celtic, St Mirren and Ross County amongst his ports of call .

In goal today will be CARSON RICHES who started the season with Peterhead in the Highland League before being farmed out to 01 241 859838 Longside. Riches took over from last season's regular No.l, local lad BRIAN GREIG, who lost his place when he went swanning off to Canada on holiday . Defender KENNY MACDONALDoriginates from Stornaway but was once on Dundee United's books. ALAN r , THOMSON fixed up from Peterhead two years ago, previously had a ------lengthy spell at Fraserburgh. I I Sweeper STAN VALENTINE was the subject of interest from Arbroath NATIONAL last season but, despite two impressive trials, the Gayfield club I I didn't pursue their interest. NEIL NIVEN who plays in both midfield and defence, is a product of Longside FC's summer league I I side. IAIN FRASER is an experienced fullback as his 10 years and I HOUSE I championship medal at Peterhead might suggest. Iain has been out recently with a hamstring problem. JAMES SIEVEWRIGHT, a newcomer I I this season, signed from local neighbour s Buch a nhaven Hearts . COLIN ROBERTSON was the Man of the Match when th e teams la s t met I I here but injury problems these past two seasons suggest he'll be BUILDERS lucky to play today never mind be Man of th e Match contender I I Another who is unlikely to feature is GORDON McROBBIE, a long serving I I stalwart whose work commitments I I restrict his opportunities. MARTIN APPROVED RITCHIE, midfield or defence, is a =5r:· ·. , ·:/, ;; well built lad who joined up this L .J season from Summer League football . ------PHILIP CUMMING is another newcomer, '• .~;!>. signed from Maud FC as was CRAIG REID HOME IMPROVEMENTS • ATTIC CONVERSIONS who is on the fringe of selection KEVIN CUNNINGHAM.Midfield. 'FORGET THE REST - Still settling in although his vast experience in the Senior game is bound to be a telling factor this afternoon. STUART FINNIE joined this season from Under 16 Juvenile football. D. M. BLACK Hello and welcome to this afternoon's North End Centenary Cup tie CHEMIST against North Region's Longside. Longside are presently sitting top of the North League's Premier Division. Their results to date have been quite impressive , winning three and drawning the other of their four opening league games. They PRESCRIPTJONS DISPENSED have also won all four of their knock-out cup ties.

Last week coach Ron Nicoll watched them in a cup-tie against Banchory COSMETICS, TOILETRIES which they won by 5-0. Ron confirmed my opinion that they are a very good side and that we'll have to be at our best to overcome them. DEVELOPING & PRINTING However I believe we have the quality players at this club to do so if we play to the best of our ability. One thing I'm sure of, is that the BABY CARE supporters can expect an excellent game this afternoon. Reflecting on last week's away league match at Dundee Violet, I was delighted to pick up three vital league points against a well organised and hard working side who, I'm sure, will take points from 32 CASTLE STREET some of the teams currently competing with us at the top of the league. It was a battling performance from the 'Port, made even more pleasing considering we only had twelve players available due to injury and having one player at a wedding and another away on TAYPORT DD6 9AF business. I would like to thank our coach George Nicoll for stepping in to help out. Big Dode had to train hard during the week in preparation for the match . It could not have been easy getting out TEL: 01382 552247 of bed for work the next day. Well done, George! The draw for the 2nd round of the Scottish Cup took place last weekend and we were drawn against local side Forfar Albion at Forfar. I am TAYSIDE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE reasonably pleased with the draw but I want to take this opportunity ATTACKING & DEFENDING AVERAGES to assure you that we will not take this tie for granted. We will prepare for this game in the same way as we would have prepared had we drawn a team from outwith this area. GOALS SCORED GOALS CONCEDED Finally may I take this opportunity to thank all the committee, players and the supporters for their continued support and encouragement. We all have the same goals and aspirations for the 1 CARNOUSTIE 3.89 1 ST JOSEPHS 1.00 team and together we can move forward.
