he last few months have been a busy time for juniors playing the National Titles as part of the T Optus Junior Tour and several Kooyong scholarship holders have performed extremely well. Juniors Kooyong’s Brigitte Beck defeated her fellow Kooyong scholarship holder and close friend Annabelle Andrinopoulos to win the Optus 14’s singles title at the Successful December Showdown at Melbourne Park.

Both girls had earlier helped Victoria reach the final of the 14’s Teams event and were full of confidence going into At National the tournament.

Beck, seeded three, had beaten the top seed, Lynne Hoang, convincingly in the semi final while Andrinopoulos had to Titles fight her way past the second seeded Andrea Dikosavljevic in three tight sets in her semi final.

The first set was all one way traffic in the final as Beck won six consecutive games to take the first set to love and she then continued to pile on the pressure early in the second set before Andrinopoulos fought her way into the match by breaking Beck to take a 4/3 lead.

Beck then won three consecutive games to take the set, match and title by winning 6/0 6/4.

In the boy’s 14’s event Kooyong’s two bottom aged stars, and Omar Jasika, made runs deep into the tournament before being beaten by higher seeded opponents.

The boys joined forces with Daniel Guccione the week before to win the 14’s Teams event for Victoria and continued that form throughout the week.

Polmans run came to an end in the quarterfinals at the hands of top seed Brad Mousley while Jasika lost a tight three set encounter with the fifth seeded Matthew Tanza.

Both boys also made the semi finals in the doubles with their respective partners while in the girl’s doubles Brigitte Beck made the semi finals.
