September 8, 2014: Today marks the four-year anniversary of the ValleyCats' most recent win in the New York-Penn League Championship Series. Although the ValleyCats lost the series to State College 2-1, their lone win in the series was a 3-0 shutout on this day in 2014. (traded to in Gerritt Cole package on 1/13/18) hurled an absolute gem to earn the win in the final game that he pitched for the ValleyCats. Musgrove started the game and went seven innings, giving up only two hits and zero runs, while striking out eight batters. MANAGER: JASON BELL Jason Bell will serve as Tri-City’s ninth in franchise history, in what will be his first career managerial post. Bell joined the Astros last seasons as a development coach with Quad Cities, where he helped guide the club to a Midwest League Championship title. At 27-years-old, Bell is the 2nd-youngest Manager in affiliated .

Bell spent 2016 as the pitching coach for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he also filled in to manage several games. Prior to his time at Maryland Eastern Shore, Bell was the Director of Baseball Operations at University in 2015 and a video scout at Baseball Info Solutions in 2014. While at Ohio, Bell led the Bobcats to an NCAA Tourna- ment Championship berth and their second-best season in the program's history--a 25- game turnaround from the previous year, which led all of college baseball.

Bell played collegiately at Saint Louis University (2010-11) and the University of Central Missouri (2012-14). He earned his master’s degree in kinesiology-sports management from Central Missouri in 2014.

HITTING COACH: JEREMY BARNES Jeremy Barnes returns to the Astros for his second season as hitting coach at Tri-City. Barnes played professionally from 2009-15 after getting drafted by the Phillies in the 11th round of the 2009 draft. He reached the Triple A level with the Phillies in 2012 before going on to play in three different Independent Leagues. Barnes played in the Australian Base- ball League for three seasons (2012-13, 2015), the Canadian-American Association for two seasons (2013-14) and the Atlantic League for one season (2013).

Jeremy is a native of Rowlett, Texas. He graduated from Notre Dame in 2009, receiving his bachelor of arts degree in anthropology. Following his four years as an infielder for the Fighting Irish, Barnes ranked among the school’s top 10 players in career batting average and fielding percentage. In 2009, he was the captain of the team and received Second Team All-Big East Honors.

PITCHING COACH: ERICK ABREU Erick Abreu begins his fifth season working in player development with the Astros, and his first as Tri-City’s pitching coach. Abreu began his coaching career as a pitching coach with the DSL Astros in 2014, and has since coached at Greeneville (2017) and the Gulf Coast League (2016). Abreu spent five seasons pitching in the Astros minor league system (2008-12) as part of a 12-year playing career.

He spent six years with the Yankees beginning in 2002, and also pitched in the Mexican League (2013). The right-hander went 40-32 with a 3.83 ERA in 219 minor league ap- pearances (74 starts) from 2003-13. Abreu is the Double A Corpus Christi Hooks franchise leader in wins (23), strikeouts (304) and appearances (128). Erick and his wife, Adris, reside in West Palm Beach, FL in the offseason with their children Jhon, Dylan and Jade.
