We are in desperate need of your position and influence to drive some changes home. In your first year as Govemor, you have made significant imoads into some long-standing sacred cows; I implore you, on behalf of the children to address another sacred cow ... that being funding for public education. Since the 2008-2009 school year the budget within my district has increased a total of $225,279, which translates into an average aruma! budget increase of0.4%. My Board of Education strives to provide the children of our community the best possible education and program opportunities the "community can afford." In the difficult fiscal times, the Board has done its best to hold the line on spending increases while being confronted with mandated increases in pension contributions, mandates in Special Education along with their associated costs that exceed those required under federal law, and increased costs in employee benefits.

  • 2018 Annual Report
2018 ANNUAL REPORT New York State Assembly Carl E. Heastie Speaker Committee on Banks Kenneth P. Zebrowski Chair December 15, 2018 The Honorable Carl E. Heastie Speaker of the Assembly State Capitol, Room 349 Albany, NY 12248 Dear Speaker Heastie: I am pleased to submit the 2018 Annual Report for the Assembly Standing Committee on Banks. Included herein are details of the Committee’s 2018 legislative work, other initiatives undertaken during the year, and important developments since the close of session. Additionally, you will find the Committee’s outlook for the 2019 legislative session where we will continue to protect consumers’ financial interests and rights while helping to improve and grow the banking industry across the State. The Banks Committee made significant progress during the 2018 session, reporting legislation that aimed to maintain and enhance the vitality of our State’s financial industry, expand the banking development district program, address the student loan debt crisis, increase access for consumers in under-banked communities, and to maintain sound operations within the industry. The Committee’s significant accomplishments in 2018 include setting standards for student debt consultants operating in the State, increasing disclosure to consumers on issues such as ATM skimming, mortgage lending, and joint deposits and convenience accounts, along with expanding the banking development district program to include low-income credit unions. I want to thank my fellow members of the Assembly Banks Committee for all the time and work they have put in to serving the interests of the residents of our State. I would also like to thank the hard work and dedication of our Committee staff.

  • Victim's Stories
Victim’s Stories THE GRAY’S Assembly District: Alicia Hyndman Co-Sponsor: Yes or No Senate District: Leroy G. Comrie Jr. Co-Sponsor: Yes or No The Gray family, including four children, suffered a fire loss to their Laurelton, New York home on March 10, 2012, The home was insured by Tri-State Consumer Insurance Company (“TSC”). The building portion of the claim was handled by TSC’s contractor, Prism, which found a replacement cost loss of $251,214 reduced to $224,790 after recoverable depreciation was calculated. At first, and without any au- thority, TSC required the Gray’s to use Prism for the repair work instead of the Gray’s contractor of choice. TSC subsequently relented on this issue. Despite the loss numbers calculated by TSC’s own contractor, the Grays were only offered $190,000 until repairs were completed at which point the recoverable depreciation of $26,000 would be issued. TSC’s president then refused to issue even this reduced check requiring the Grays to produce completely irrelevant documents such as their childrens’ birth certificates, marriage certificates and photos of a circuit breaker. A three month delay ensued during which TSC refused to communicate with the insureds about their contents claim despite the fact that payment was promised by TSC’s claim supervisor at the beginning of the three month pe- riod. Payment for contents were finally made in the sum of $62,348 despite the fact that the claim exceeded the policy limits of $224,500. During this period TSC also refused to make any additional living expense payments (which are covered by the policy) without explanation despite the family hav- ing been forced to move to a rental property because of the fire.
