The Power Station’s relationship to the cultural world has established the four chimneys as an iconic feature of the London skyline, making it one of the most recognisable buildings in the world. Today, we are bringing the power back to Battersea. As part of one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe, the Power Station will take centre stage once again. 6 7 The Story PRESENT A DEFINING LANDMARK Work is well underway at Battersea Power Station and our first chapter, Circus West Village, is open and thriving. At the foot of the Power Station, Circus West Village is home to 865 brand new apartments, 25,000 sq ft of office space, an extraordinary mix of independent restaurants, bars, shops and spaces to relax and exercise. With its own MBNA Thames Clippers Pier, the buzzing riverside neighbourhood has already welcomed 1.3 million visitors and firmly established itself as one of London’s most exciting places to dine, drink and live. 8 Battersea Power Station, Bonfire Night (2017) 9 The Story FUTURE A NEW CHAPTER FOR LONDON Once complete, a whole new quarter for London, at the centre of Nine Elms, will have been created. The Power Station and its surroundings will be transformed into one of the world’s greatest shopping, eating, working and leisure destinations - becoming a must-visit for a projected 40 million Londoners and tourists every year, with its own hotel and Zone 1 tube station. Inside the Power Station itself, the two mammoth Turbine Halls, each the size of The Tate Modern, will be filled with an eclectic mix of 130 restaurants and shops, alongside a living and working population of 25,000 people. Needless to say, the demand is sky high, with Apple already claiming 500,000 sq ft of office space for their new London Campus. 40MVisits per year 4.75M 10 CGI of the Masterplan International Tourists The Story A TRUE CULTURAL Pink Floyd - Animals (1977) Elton John (2014) B e y o n c é (2011) Bear Grylls (2013) London Seafood Festival (2018) ICON Elton John (2014) The lasting appeal of the building has cemented Battersea Power Station, not only as a London landmark, but as a cultural icon through the ages. Building on its fame and cultural importance, entertainment has been placed at the very centre of the Power Station’s offering - with some of the building’s most significant architectural features reimagined to create a suite of jaw-dropping event spaces and experiences. We are now looking for the partners to bring London’s newest event space to life. We need an event and entertainment offering that continues Battersea Power Station’s cultural legacy. But we can’t do it alone. We are excited to share this opportunity with you. 12 The Dark Knight (2008) Holi Festival (2013) 13 The Power Station STEP INSIDE THE POWER The Power Station is no ordinary redevelopment. The Grade II* listed building will be brought to life with an imaginative blend of retail, food, leisure, office and residential spaces like no other. As visitors enter the Power Station they will be immersed in our retail offering featuring a carefully curated selection of some of the world’s best brands. The first floor will be an eating and drinking destination featuring a 35,000 sq ft Food Hall, open fronted restaurants overlooking the stunning Turbine Halls, and four signature restaurants with breathtaking views. Departing from the same level, the extraordinary Chimney Lift experience will take visitors to the very top of the north- west chimney, providing incredible views of the capital. The Power Station’s new home of entertainment is on the second floor. From the versatile 1,500 person capacity venue playing host to conferences and concerts alike, to the Art Deco splendour of Control Room A providing the setting for a fashion show, dinner or wedding - events and entertainment operators will have the opportunity to create something spectacular for London. • Introduction
Official WANDSWORTH BOROUGH COUNCIL BUILDINGS OF SPECIAL ARCHITECTURAL OR HISTORIC INTEREST INTRODUCTION The Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport is required to compile lists of buildings of special architectural or historic interest for the guidance of local planning authorities. Conservation policies are often based on the lists, which are being revised within nationally applied surveys of specific building types. How Buildings are Chosen The principles of selection for these lists were originally drawn up by an expert committee of architects, antiquarians and historians, and are still followed, although now adapted to thematic surveys and Post-War buildings. Buildings that qualify for listing are:- (a) All buildings before 1700 which survive in anything like their original condition. (b) Most buildings between 1700-1840, though some selection is necessary. (c) Between 1840 and 1914 only buildings of definite quality and character, the selection being designed to include the best examples of particular building types. (d) Selected buildings from the period after 1914 are selected on the same basis. (e) Buildings under 30 years old (but more than ten) are normally listed only if they are of outstanding quality and under threat. In choosing buildings, particular attention is paid to:- Special value within certain types, either for architectural or planning reasons or as illustrating social and economic history (for instance, industrial buildings, railway stations, schools, hospitals, prisons, theatres). Technological innovation or virtuosity (for instance cast iron, prefabrication, or the early use of concrete). Group value, especially as examples of town planning (for instance, squares, terraces or model estates). Association with well-known characters or events.

  • Battersea Area Guide
Battersea Area Guide Living in Battersea and Nine Elms Battersea is in the London Borough of Wandsworth and stands on the south bank of the River Thames, spanning from Fairfield in the west to Queenstown in the east. The area is conveniently located just 3 miles from Charing Cross and easily accessible from most parts of Central London. The skyline is dominated by Battersea Power Station and its four distinctive chimneys, visible from both land and water, making it one of London’s most famous landmarks. Battersea’s most famous attractions have been here for more than a century. The legendary Battersea Dogs and Cats Home still finds new families for abandoned pets, and Battersea Park, which opened in 1858, guarantees a wonderful day out. Today Battersea is a relatively affluent neighbourhood with wine bars and many independent and unique shops - Northcote Road once being voted London’s second favourite shopping street. The SW11 Literary Festival showcases the best of Battersea’s literary talents and the famous New Covent Garden Market keeps many of London’s restaurants supplied with fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers. Nine Elms is Europe’s largest regeneration zone and, according the mayor of London, the ‘most important urban renewal programme’ to date. Three and half times larger than the Canary Wharf finance district, the future of Nine Elms, once a rundown industrial district, is exciting with two new underground stations planned for completion by 2020 linking up with the northern line at Vauxhall and providing excellent transport links to the City, Central London and the West End.
