The Target Archery Rankings 2011 THE TARGET ARCHERY RANKINGS 2011 Shoots with UK Record Status were admissible for the Rankings in 2011, in addition to those with World Record Status. A total of 424 members completed the required shoots, almost the same as in 2010. A number of events were cancelled in advance and the weather also played an important part, cutting short at least 6 events. Is our weather actually getting worse, or are we, the archers, just less hardy? In the recurve and compound disciplines, the names around the top of each list are generally as expected, with our international archers well represented. There are separate lists for Longbow and Barebow archers again this year, although the numbers remain relatively small. Archers from 194 clubs feature in the lists. The club with the most archers is Meriden AC with11 archers, followed by Llantarnam AC with 9 archers. In the lists that follow, the points gained represent each archer’s best 3 ladies/gents FITA rounds and best 2 FITA 70m rounds from shoots with UK or World Record Status. In addition, archers were required to shoot an Olympic or a Compound Match round. • University of Birmingham Athletes on the Road to Rio
University of Birmingham Sport press release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE University of Birmingham athletes on the road to Rio One current student and eight alumni athletes from the University of Birmingham Sport have now been confirmed for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. This is a record breaking number of Birmingham educated athletes to be selected for the Olympics, showing that the sport programme at Birmingham continues to thrive. Lily Owsley, who currently studies Sport and Exercise Science has already made headlines worldwide this year. She was part of the England hockey squad who won the European Championships, as well as being named Rising Star of the Year by the International Hockey Federation. Owsley has achieved all this in a year where she was taken ill with meningitis and fractured her collar bone in a match against Australia. Also joining Lily on the Team GB women’s hockey squad at the Rio Olympics will be University of Birmingham alumni Sophie Bray and Ellie Watton (reserve). Simon Mantell, who graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2007, has been selected for the Team GB men’s hockey squad as a reserve. One of the University of Birmingham Sport’s most successful alumni of recent years, Non Stanford, who took up triathlon in her second year at University and then went on to become ITU World U23 Champion in 2013, will also be representing Team GB. Stanford, who trains alongside the Brownlee brothers, has been marked as a medal contender making Team GB’s triathlon team a force to be reckoned with. Non Stanford’s University housemate, Sara Treacy, has also been selected to represent Ireland in the 3000m steeplechase.

The evening was organised by George Matthews, and with lots of chocolates and sweets up for grabs, competition was fierce among those taking part! The Fancy Dress competition was won by Fiona Laing who came along as a very convincing snowman, and still managed to shoot! All members had to shoot using varying weight jelly bows and club arrows, so everyone had the same dis-advantages ! There were even some very special Christmas target faces supplied by club member and talented artist Jonathan Howlett. 14th December - Impressive Fundraising for Children in Need The junior section of Bannockburn Bowmen held a sponsored shoot in aid of Children in Need and raised an impressive £550. Event organiser Brenda Williams praised the juniors for their efforts, especially as the majority of them had only been shooting for 3 weeks when the sponsored shoot took place. Not only did they have to concentrate on their shooting, but they also ran a raffle, and many games for the adults to take part in. Douglas Blyth (the "senior" junior) did a great job with keeping everything running smoothly and ensuring all the jobs were done. Thanks too to all the club members who provided raffle prizes for the event. The attached photo shows some members of the junior section who took part in the Children in Need evening.
