EVANSIA

The aim of Evansia is to provide a vehicle for the presentation and exchange of useful information on North American bryophytes and lichens. Articles are frequently popular in nature rather than technical and are intended to teach and inform both amateurs and professionals. The articles include, but are not restricted to, announcements of and reports on forays and meetings, presentations of techniques and aids for studying and curating lichens, bryophytes, and hepatics; and reports on local floras. Occasionally, articles of broad interest from locations other than North America may be included.

COVER ART. The Neotropical genus Ischnocnema contains 33 species of leaf-litter, ground-dwelling frogs divided among four taxonomic series. The I. guentheri Series contains 10 species distributed throughout the Brazilian Atlantic forest and adjacent Argentina. In this issue of Herpetological Monographs, Taucce et al. use an integra- tive approach, combining morphological, acoustical, and molecular data to assess species boundaries within the I. guentheri Series of southeastern Brazil and adjacent Argentina. The cover illustrates a specimen of I. oea collected for this study at the type locality, Santa Teresa, Brazil (photograph by Célio F. B. Haddad). Though one of the most heavily populated regions in South America, the imperiled Atlantic forests of Southeastern Brazil are also one of Phone: (785) 865-9404 the continent’s richest biodiversity hotspots. Taucce et al. show that much of the region’s endemic anuran diversity is still being discovered.
