ADIN Biography 2019 ADIN, Spearheads the Forefront of a Flurry ADIN Biography 2019 ADIN, spearheads the forefront of a flurry of talented techno producers to come out of the Netherlands. But unlike a large wealth of his native counterparts, Ajdin’s story has seen the DJ craft his unique sonic style through a colourful past, and amalgamation between the dark and light of his life. Making a rapid and far-reaching impact on the electronic music scene over the course of his double-decade career, it was the move from Ajdin’s war-torn birthplace of Bosnia to a Rotterdam record store in his youth that marked the first stepping stone on his eventual ladder to success. Taking early inspiration from iconic producers such as Masters At Work, Roger Sanchez and Erick Morillo, it was his dub mix of Sandy Rivera’s ‘Freak’ on Simon Dunmore’s Defected Records that was championed all over the scene. By 2007, Ajdin had become one of the most in-demand artists in the business, touring worldwide with a schedule of more than 30 shows per month. A technical wizard on the decks, his obsession with house, techno and multiple sub- genres shone through immediately. Stepping things up a notch, it was a meeting with Pasquale Rotella that changed the course of Ajdin’s future as he switched the melodic sounds of his EDC NY set to more dark and industrial tones half-way through the performance. The brave and somewhat adventurous gamble was wholeheartedly rewarded, with Ajdin’s performance ranked as one of Rolling Stone’s “25 raviest moments of EDC.” Always one to go with the moment rather than to meticulously plan out sets, it is this party-ready approach that saw him become a key member of Insomniac’s events early on, playing further sets at EDC Orlando, Mexico, Japan and the Las Vegas showpiece event. Now firmly established as one of Holland’s finest techno exports, Ajdin has also performed at Mysteryland, Sensation, Creamfields, Elrow, the iconic Womb Tokyo venue, Free Your Mind Festival and Free Your Mind with Sasha and John Digweed. Having honed his craft on vinyl long before his 2004 debut in the production studio, ADIN has amassed universal plaudits via his insatiable back catalogue, vibrant track selections and instinctive ability to read a crowd. Making incredible music that resonates further than just the confines of gruff dancefloor beats, Ajdin’s ADIN alias has garnered a reputation as an innovative and forward-thinking producer & DJ, fusing his driven tones with an emotional blend of melodic techno. Carving a niche signature sound which has seen the Dutch artist amass the support of the finest names in the underground scene, including Joris Voorn, Nic Fanciulli, Maya Jane Coles, Richie Hawtin, Hot Since 82, and Josh Butler, ADIN is also the founder of his own ADIN Records imprint. With the label playing host to his sumptuous mix of warm underground music, including tracks like ‘Fargo,’ ‘Adria’, and ‘Alive’, ADIN’s infectious devotion to house and techno has found a true calling after many years spent spreading his powerful production prowess across the studio, with deep influenced records that resonate broadly with a respective nod to the producer’s past. Diversifying his musical output through a combination of atmospheric tracks, ADIN faces 2018 and beyond with a fresh impetus, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the career of the revered producer. Amassing a reputation as an important purveyor of international techno that resonates broadly, ADIN has established himself as a passionate contributor to the scene, cementing his place as one of the genre’s premiere names. # # # For more information on ADIN, visit: www.facebook.com/adin.ofc www.soundcloud.com/adin_ofc www.twitter.com/adin_ofc www.instagram.com/adin_ofc .

www.melodicbeatspodcast.com [email protected] A Chat with the DJ – Around Us MB: You Have very kindly agreed to do a mix for the podcast but I feel its always good for listeners to get to know you a little with a 5 step Q & A.. So we know that you play the deep, melodic and progressive style but when did you start to DJ and what made you take the step from punter to player ?? (as in the DJ kind) Answer: Jan: I started dj-ing in 1999. Soon after that I had a residentie in the famous Amsterdam club MAZZO. Gaby: For me it was 1989 when I start dj-ing in a bar (Cranes Palace on the famous Rembrandtplein), after that tired to play the commercial stuff and did my own events (S.M.A.R.T) and residency in Club TIME (ITEM), all in Amsterdam. MB: If you can share one musical memory with us, as a DJ or punter, which has lodged itself in the memory bank, what is it?? Answer: Jan: Many to tell! From the warmups and closing sets in my residentie clubs MAZZO and Club PANAMA in Amsterdam for john digweed, Sasha, Danny Howells, Dubfire, Sander Kleinenberg, Groove Armada And many many more. I have a lovely memory when Faithless Maxi Jazz was Booked the in my club Panama. He and I went having drinks backstage and talked long about music and smoked some joints. Really cool guy! Gaby: Also too many memories, but two are engraved in my memory; Playing at a private party in Ibiza before José Padilla took over, and second playing in Miami at the V-Lounge.

  • Petar Dundov: Biography
Petar Dundov: biography What is techno? Scientists and philosophers have long since pondered the concept of its musical definition since it burst out of Detroit in the mid-‘80s. Is it that notion of the “ghost in the machine”, of soul from electronics that its inventors elicited? Or is it more the repetitive throb and thump of 4/4 beats and slow-burning momentum that the Berghain generation are proponents of? Croatian producer Petar Dundov’s stunning music manages to marry both ideals in the most explosive of fashions. To Dundov, “techno is music that precedes movement. It is dance music, solid enough to carry emotions through the dance floor and abstract enough to be a template for ever”. And indeed his breathtaking productions embody this ethos, serving the inherent function of making your body pulse spontaneously while also challenging your brain with its complex melodies and slow-burning, hypnotic progressions. It’s the antidote for anyone who thinks that techno is about senseless, dull looping. Although maybe the word “techno” doesn’t give enough detail about his style, it’s probably the nearest ballpark to whose principles his music adheres – and he is keen to expand the horizons of what people know and expect of the genre. But it’s that sense of his tracks being alive, forever evolving and expanding and increasing in intensity, which gives his music its unique sound and has seen his work crossover into a myriad of different areas of the global electronic music scene. The last two years have seen his mind-bending single Oasis (played by everyone from Dubfire to Sasha to Ben Klock to Prins Thomas to Timo Maas) take the scene by storm with its intricate, ever-changing melodies, John Digweed snap him up for an epic rework of Alan Fitzpatrick’s Reflections, and Gregor Tresher squeeze a deep, mesmerising remix of his track The Life Wire out of him.

  • Elites, Communities and the Limited Benefits of Mentorship in Electronic
Elites, communities and the limited benefits of mentorship in electronic music Milan´ Janosov1, Federico Musciotto1, Federico Battiston1, and Gerardo Iniguez˜ 1, 2, 3,* 1Department of Network and Data Science, Central European University, Budapest, 1051, Hungary 2Department of Computer Science, Aalto University School of Science, Aalto, 00076, Finland 3IIMAS, Universidad Nacional Autonoma´ de Mexico,´ Ciudad de Mexico,´ 01000, Mexico *[email protected] Abstract While the emergence of success in creative professions, such as music, has been studied extensively, the link between individual success and collaboration is not yet fully uncovered. Here we aim to fill this gap by analyzing longitudinal data on the co-releasing and mentoring patterns of popular electronic music artists appearing in the annual Top 100 ranking of DJ Magazine. We find that while this ranking list of popularity publishes 100 names, only the top 20 is stable over time, showcasing a lock-in effect on the electronic music elite. Based on the temporal co-release network of top musicians, we extract a diverse community structure characterizing the electronic music industry. These groups of artists are temporally segregated, sequentially formed around leading musicians, and represent changes in arXiv:1908.10968v2 [physics.soc-ph] 31 Oct 2019 musical genres. We show that a major driving force behind the formation of music communities is mentorship: around half of musicians entering the top 100 have been mentored by current leading figures before they entered the list. We also find that mentees are unlikely to break into the top 20, yet have much higher expected best ranks than those who were not mentored.

Introduction There are many beginnings to the history of Electronic Dance Music (EDM). It would be a mistake to exclude the impact that disco had upon house, techno, acid house, and dance music in general. While disco evolved mostly in the dance capital of America (New York), it proposed the idea that danceable songs could be mixed smoothly together, allowing for long term dancing to previously recorded music. Prior to the disco era, nightlife dancing was restricted to bands or jukeboxes, which limited variety and options of songs and genres. The selections of the DJs mattered more than their technical excellence at mixing.
