Aim for 1 Or More Tasks Per Day Weekly Maths Tasks MOORTHORPE PRIMARY SCHOOL Year 1 & 2 Home Learning Planning Week 6 - Food Weekly Reading Tasks – aim for 1 or more tasks per day Accelerated Reader / Reading a variety of books at home. Your child should ideally share a book every day. ● Reading comprehension – can you use the story to answer the questions? ● Can you read non-fiction books about how trees help our environment? ● Listen to a story from David Walliams ‘Elevensies’ https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses-catch-up/ ● Listen to a story read, Storyline. ● Read out aloud the ingredients on the back of a tine or cereal box. As an extra challenge can you locate where these items come from? Or even write the recipe? ● Can you add sound buttons to the names of your favourite foods? ● Find a cooking book at home or online and read the ingredients or the instructions together. ● Do you have some stories about food at home, e.g. ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’? Hunt them out and read them to your sibling or grown up. Weekly Maths Tasks– aim for 1 White Rose lesson per day We follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work for Maths whilst we are in school, so this week we will be setting your Maths activities using White Rose Maths. All you need to do is search the website: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/ or https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ and find the lesson for each day (i.e. lesson 1 for Monday, lesson 2 for Tuesday etc.) There is a video lesson, then relevant activities (as PDF) and answers (as PDF) for you to access. (There will be a photo step-by-step guide on dojo to show you what this looks like to accompany this planning). This week look under ‘SUMMER TERM WEEK 3’ Watch the ISeeMaths http://www.iseemaths.com/home-lessons/ tutorial videos and tasks. Weekly Writing Tasks – aim for at least 1 per day Can you retell one of the food stories that you read? Maybe you could put your own spin on it by changing the ending, or changing the food that they eat in the story! Create your family’s shopping list for the week – can you group the items into categories? E.g. fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy? Write a recipe for your favourite meal, or for a healthy meal of your choice. Maybe you could use subheadings for the ingredients section and challenge yourself to use conjunctions in your instructions. Write a set of instructions for making something simple, like a sandwich, or toast. You could even deliberately muddle them up and get your sibling or grown up to put them in order. Then you can be the teacher and mark them to see if they got it right! Maybe you could write a poem about your favourite food, like the ones in the examples we will upload. Design a new milkshake – which ingredients will you include? Can you make an advert for it to tempt people? • Open Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions 2021
OPEN GOLD DUKE OF EDINBURGH EXPEDITIONS 2021 Guidance for a successful expedition Planning your meals for the expedition is key. Food is so important in keeping our bodies fueled to complete the activity, but also in lifting our spirits! Getting the right food will help you enjoy the expedition and set you up to succeed. Here our some of our hints and tips to help you. FOOD AND NUTRITION One very important consideration when sourcing food for an expedition is weight: the more miles you've carried something too heavy, the more you will wish you'd looked for a lightweight version! Dried food weighs much less, because you are not carrying the water, and is generally the best choice for hot meals. Here are our suggestions of good and bad things to bring. Breakfast How you start the day is crucial. It may be tempting to not bother with breakfast, but you will regret it after an hour or two! Taking the time to have breakfast will boost your energy stores. • Instant Porridge - Mix oats, powdered milk and sugar in a freezer bag. Add water and cook whilst stirring until everything goes thick. You could also use a pre-prepared sachet of instant oats but these do not contain powdered milk. • Cereal - Choose the highest calorie per 100g cereal you can find. Mix 50g cereal and 50g powdered milk in a sealable bag. To eat, pour cold water over and stir. • Cereal bars - Not terribly satisfying but some people like to get away early in the morning without cooking/washing up so cereal bars might just about suffice.

  • English Conversation.Pub
English Conversation with Helen Goddard Mondays beginning January 7, ending in May 10 a.m. to noon 43 Maxwell Lane (a short walk from Fuld Hall off of Einstein Drive) All are welcome, from beginners in English to native speakers. Its purpose is to introduce everyone to the Institute, the Princeton area, and to each other. Attendance varies but is typically around ten. There is no need to come every time, drop in and out as you wish—and men are welcome too! What do we do? It really depends on the interests of the group but I always have activities ready. We read poetry or from a chapter in a book; we discuss words or look at an item from the news. And we certainly talk about things to do and places to visit. We enjoy learning about other countries and customs, and sometimes our elevenses will turn into a cooking session. We may visit local places of interest as a group. Elevenses is a popular English tradition and refers to a break for tea or coffee in the middle of the morning, very often with something to nibble too.. We take this break halfway through our two-hour session, and I try to make something that is appropriate to our topic of conversation. Sometimes people will bring a traditional snack from their home country to share. As I am from England, living in the U.S., we often find ourselves discussing English versus American customs and language, so American English speakers are particularly welcome. Reservations are not necessary but appreciated.

When the Nugents reached Jamaica in July 1801, Maria was just 30 years old and George, who had served in the British army’s colonial wars, was aged 44. They were unusual as a couple; few of the earlier governors of Jamaica arrived with wives, and while in the island Maria gave birth to two children, one in October 1802 and the other in September 1803. Although Maria became a ‘Lady’ only in 1811, six years after she left Jamaica, she has regularly been given the title for her time in the island.

  • Blessed Are You
January 29, 2019 Blessed Are You Scripture Reading — Matthew 5:1-12 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. — Matthew 5:6 If you have ever read The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, you will know that Hobbits like to eat. They have breakfast, of course, but they also have second breakfast, then elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, supper, and maybe a nighttime snack. They have “an appetite.” We have often used this phrase to describe our teenagers and grandchildren. I sometimes wonder if the floor by our refrigerator will wear out first because of the foot traffic in front of it. I have also been in countries where hunger is a daily problem. I have seen moms desperate to feed their children and willing to feed them mud cookies when there is nothing else. We all have a hunger for food to satisfy the grumblings in our stomachs. When Jesus sat on a hillside and began teaching the crowds around him, the people were not physically hungry, so he could focus on their spiritual hunger. He wanted them to know that if they were hungry for God, there would be plenty to fill their souls. He wanted them to know that if they would change their thinking and search after God, the righteousness and peace (shalom) of God would fill their hearts. How hungry are we for the things that God wants to fill us with? Prayer Dear God, please make us hungry for you.
