GREEK COLUMNS Volume 6, Issue 10 Fall 2009 Welcome Back Week Luau This fall, members of Alpha Pi Lambda Fraternity teamed up with the Office of Campus Activities to host a luau and pig roast as part of the Welcome Back Week events in September. The event which was hosted at the chapter house included a pig weighing in at over 200 pounds, music, prizes, and fun! The luau turned out great. Over 200 students attended for the food, free t-shirts, raffled give-aways, and great atmosphere at the Apple Pi house that night. It truly was a great way to kick off the school year. MIT Interfraternity Council 2016 Recruitment Rules - 1 Massachusetts Institute of Technology Interfraternity Council 2016 Recruitment Rules Preamble Spirit of Recruitment Formal Recruitment Rules are created and enforced with the intent of fostering a safe, efficient, and fair Recruitment for the benefit of the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and the entire fraternity community. They serve to protect the recruitees, individual chapters, and the overall interests of the IFC, especially with regards to maintaining a positive relationship with MIT. Any action committed by a fraternity or member of the IFC to the detriment of another fraternity, fraternity member, recruitee, or the MIT community is a violation of the Spirit of Recruitment, and the Spirit, rather than the literal interpretation of the rules, shall be enforced. Any information regarding alleged Recruitment violations must be given to the Recruitment Chairman or any Judicial Committee inspector upon request and failure to do so is itself a violation. All questions regarding the interpretation of the rules will be immediately referred to the Judicial Committee for proceedings, and all violators are subject to any and all fines, sanctions, and punishments that the Judicial Committee Chairman deems appropriate. Definitions • Associated: Any person that has connections with the fraternity in question. This includes, but is not limited to, fraternity members and alumni. • Day: As used in the Rules, it will be the defined as the period from 9:30 am to 3:00 am. • Event: An event will be defined as any time an organization or fraternity member pays for a freshman, takes a freshman off campus, or hosts an occurrence for which it has openly advertised.

August 13, 2020 Dear Fraternity and Sorority Members, We are looking forward to welcoming you back to campus in the coming days. Our staff has been working with your chapter officers throughout the summer to help them find new and creative ways to make your Greek experience meaningful in spite of the restrictions both the City of New Orleans and the University have in place. While we all know this year will be different, we are committed to helping you make the best of it and to keeping our community safe. We are proud of the work so many of you have done in recent weeks to address racial injustice in this country, and yet we know there is still much to be done to dismantle the systems of oppression and exclusion inherent in many of our organizations and practices. In the coming days we will be communicating with you about diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives we are expanding as well as initiating within Fraternity and Sorority Programs. Today however, we are contacting you in order to be crystal clear about the University’s expectations of you related to COVID safety. By now you should have seen the University’s new COVID policies. Some of these have lasted a long time and are impor- tant while others existed only a brief period and died, leaving, perhaps, only a name with no date available. In going through the old copies of the Banner the names of many of these latter appear only to be omitted in later issues and so we assume that they passed from the scene. A group might get together for some purpose, select a name, be recorded in the Banner, and then in a short time cease to exist. These we have not included for while they may have been important to the founders, they made no impression on the Yale scene. We have not in- cluded athletics or the preparatory school and state clubs that as a rule meet infrequently, perhaps for one dinner a year, and usually have an ephemeral existence. After months of research we have compiled a list of the more important extracurricular activities, giving, where possible, the date, when they first appeared and if they dropped out, the year. In some cases there are no adequate records and so we have resorted to ques- tion marks.

THE CRIMSON 71 Pan-Hellenic (Men) National Inter-fraternity Conference The National Inter-fraternity Confer ence, a co-operating but non-legislative as sociation of the progressive fraternities of men, was organized in 1909. The Confer ence meets annually at New York on the Friday and Saturday following Thanks giving, unless the place or date is changed by a majority vote of the officers. It pub lishes a Year Book of notable value which preserves in permanent form addresses and reports of great importance to the fraternity system.
