Appointed by the University of Guelph Senate as its Chancellor on February 13, 2012, Mr. David Mirvish is a Canadian art collector and theatre producer. Mr. Mirvish is currently the owner and operator of ’s , Princess of Wales Theatre, Theatre (formerly the Canon Theatre) and Panasonic Theatre. From 1987 to 1998, Mr. Mirvish also operated the renowned Old Vic Theatre in London, England, (purchased and renovated by his father, Ed Mirvish, in 1982). From 1963 to 1978 Mr. Mirvish ran the , which specialized in contemporary art from Canada, the United States and England. Mr. Mirvish continues to collect privately and to lend works to museums for exhibitions. In 1994 he was the recipient of the Toronto Arts Award for the Visual Arts. Mr. Mirvish has received many awards and recognitions for his contributions to the Canadian arts scene, including being named to the Order of Ontario and appointed to the Order of Canada, the country’s highest honour of lifetime achievement. He has been presented with honorary doctorates from Queen’s University, the Fine Arts department, the Faculty of Applied Arts at Ryerson University and University College, the . He has served on the board of trustees of The National Gallery of Canada and the Royal Ontario Museum.

Dick Freeborough FCA, ICD.D | Board Chair Corporate Director 2005-2015

Mr Freeborough is a corporate director, serving as Chair of the Independent Order of Foresters, Director and audit committee chair of RGA Life Reinsurance Company of Canada and ResMor Trust Company and Director of the Economical Insurance Group. Former board activity includes ACE INA Insurance, Triad Guaranty, and KPMG where he was Deputy Chair. Prior to September 30, 2004, he was a partner of KPMG and leader of the Firm's insurance practice. He was with KPMG for 40 years in Montreal and Toronto. Volunteer activity has included Chair of the Board of the Oakville Hospital Foundation, Chair of the Board of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Treasurer and director of the Mississauga Golf and Country Club. He continues as a volunteer with the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and with Tafelmusik. Mr Freeborough also provides advisory services on Governance, financial matters, and management.

Graham Badun Managing Partner & CEO, Brookfield Residential Property Services 2012-2015

Graham is the CEO of Brookfield Residential Property Services. The family of companies that he is responsible for deliver corporate and government relocations services, valuation and data services, and residential real estate brokerage services. The company has operations in 9 countries and has over 2,500 employees and operates brands such as Royal LePage, Via Capitale, Prudential and Real Living. Graham joined the Brookfield group of companies in 1998. He has held a number of senior executive positions across the portfolio including roles in Operations as well as Corporate Development. Prior to joining Brookfield, Graham worked for several years in the Canadian mortgage industry and also

spent three years as a Management Consultant with a major international consulting firm.

Shauneen Bruder Executive VP Operations, Canadian Banking, RBC Financial Group 2012-2015

In her role as Executive Vice President of Operations, Royal Bank of Canada, Shauneen oversees operations related to all personal and business clients in Canada. In addition, she is a member of the Group Operating Committee charged with oversight of day-to-day management of RBC globally. Shauneen joined RBC in 1984, and has held a variety of roles, including EVP of Business and Commercial Banking, Chief Operating Officer of the Global Wealth Management division and President of RBC Centura Banks headquartered in North Carolina. A certified director (ICD.D), she is a director of various RBC subsidiaries and also serves on a number of not-for-profit organizations, including the Shaw Festival and Pine River Institute. Shauneen has served as Chair of the both the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian American Business Council. She serves as Honorary Consul for Luxembourg in Toronto, and is the Chair of the Ontario Chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors. She has been recognized by the Women's Executive Network as one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women. Shauneen holds a BA from the University of Guelph (1980) and was Gold Medalist of the Queen's University MBA class of 1984. Shauneen and her husband Michael, also a Guelph alum, have three children.

Jason Carere Graduate Student (PhD, Molecular & Cellular Biology) 2012-2013

Jason Carere is a PhD candidate in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. His research in biochemistry focuses on degradative enzymes: one of which degrades environmental pollutants such as polychlorinated biphenyls and the other degrades cholesterol in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of Tuberculosis. He has won several awards for his research activities including the Dr. Donald Robert Phillips Molecular Biology and Genetics Scholarship and the Protein Society Student Poster Award. Jason graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honors Bachelor of Medical Science in 2008. He is an active member of the graduate community representing his department on the Graduate Students Association Board of Directors as well as volunteering with various university and community groups.

Nancy Croitoru President & CEO, Food & Consumer Products of Canada 2012-2015

Nancy Croitoru is President & CEO of Food & Consumer Products of Canada (FCPC), Canada’s largest national association representing food, beverage and consumer packaged goods companies. She oversees the Association’s operations and acts as an industry spokesperson, liaising with trading partners and senior government officials on issues of concern to the membership. Prior to joining FCPC, Ms. Croitoru was President of GCI Group Canada, a full service public relations and public affairs agency with offices in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. She has counselled clients from diverse industries and specialized in assisting corporations with issues management, strategic planning and crisis communications. Ms. Croitoru has been a regular speaker on Corporate Reputation, Branding and Issues and Crisis Management for the Conference Board of Canada, Federated Press and a variety of other organizations. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from McGill University, a degree in dietetics and is fully bilingual. She also completed “Leading professional service firms” course, Harvard University, Graduate School of Business Administration and “Governance course for not-for-profit organizations”, Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD).

Mary Anne Chambers Retired Senior Vice-President at Scotiabank 2010-2013

Mary Anne Chambers has served as Ontario's Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities (Oct. 2003 - June 2005) and Minister of Children and Youth Services (June 2005 - Oct. 2007). Mary Anne holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto and has also been awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws by that University. Mary Anne holds the Chartered Director (C.Dir.) designation from The Directors College. She is also a Member of the Institute of Corporate Directors. A retired Senior Vice- President of Scotiabank, she has served on the Board of the United Way of Greater Toronto and is a past Chair of the Board of the United Way of Canada. Mary Anne has also served as Vice-Chair of the Board of the Rouge Valley Health System and was Vice-Chair of the Governing Council of the University of Toronto. She is a Past President of The Canadian Club of Toronto. Mary Anne is currently a Member of the Boards of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), and P.A.C.E. (Canada) a Program for the Advancement of Early Childhood Education. Mary Anne is also a member of the Advisory Council for York University's Centre for Education and Community (YCEC)

Earl Ellis Assistant Treasurer, Campbell Soup Company 2011-2014

Earl Ellis joined Campbell Company of Canada in 2006 as Vice President, Chief Financial Officer. In 2009 he relocated to the U.S. and was appointed to the position, Assistant Treasurer for the Campbell Soup Company. Earl has held a number of finance positions of increasing responsibility within the consumer packaged goods industry, including roles at Coca- Cola Bottling (1994-1999) and Kraft Canada (1999-2006). Earl earned his Bachelors of Arts degree with honours in Management Economics from the University of Guelph. He received his Chartered Accounting designation and is a member of the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Earl lives with his wife and two sons in Moorestown, New Jersey.

Effie Gatsinos Assistant Registrar, Student Recruitment, Office of Registrarial Services 2010-2013

Effie Gatsinos is a staff member on the Board of Governors. Effie has held several positions in Admission Services over the last ten years, and is currently the Assistant Registrar, Student Recruitment. Effie received an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science and Neuroscience, and also completed a Master of Arts (Leadership), both from the University of Guelph. In her years as both a student and staff member at Guelph, Effie has served on a number of University committees including, but not limited to, University Budget, Student Housing Services, University Judicial, and various selection and hiring committees. Effie has also represented the University of Guelph on various provincial admission and recruitment committees. Her most significant contribution has been through the Ontario Universities' Fair Steering Committee, where she served as Chair for three years. As well, she currently is the President of the Ontario University Registrars' Association

Kevin Golding President, Rothsay (Member of Maple Leaf Foods Inc.) 2008-2014

Kevin Golding is President of Rothsay and Maple Leaf Agri Farms, two independent operating companies of Maple Leaf Foods Inc. He was appointed President of Rothsay in 2000 and most recently President of Maple Leaf Agri- Farms in November 2005. Rothsay is Canada’s leading independent animal by-products recycling operation. The Company continues to develop new outlets for its products and under Mr. Golding’s guidance, is pursuing innovation in an environmentally-friendly way. One of its most recent innovations has been the conversion of animal and food by-products into biodiesel, an alternative and environmentally sustainable fuel product. Rothsay’s production facility in Ville Ste-Catherine, QC was the first commercial plant in Canada. Mr. Golding’s career with Maple Leaf Foods spans more than 29 years, in a wide variety of functions, including 17 years with Maple Leaf Poultry across Canada. Mr. Golding graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton in 1980 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He is Chairman of the National Renderers Association, was a former director of Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council and an alternate director of Chicken Farmers of Canada. Having completed the trainee program at the start of his career, Mr. Golding was the Executive Sponsor of Maple Leaf Foods’ Management Trainee program across the Company from 2001-2006. John Kissick Professor and Director, School of Fine Art and Music 2011-2014

Trained as a painter and writer, John Kissick attended Queen’s University at Kingston, Cornell University and most recently the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Institutes for Higher Education. He taught at Penn State University’s School of Visual Arts for thirteen years (where he was a Full Professor,) and was Dean of the Faculty of Art at the Ontario College of Art & Design from 2000 to 2003. Kissick’s exhibition record includes numerous solo exhibitions in Canada and abroad and his work has been included in a number of important survey exhibitions. In 2005, he was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy for the Arts. John Kissick is also the author of numerous catalogue essays and articles for periodicals. He is the author of Art: Context and Criticism (1992/6) and was editor of the Penn State Journal of Contemporary Criticism from 1990-1995. Two recent essays: “Elephants in the Room” for Canadian Art Magazine and “Disco and the Death Switch: Tales from Contemporary Abstraction” for Border Crossings have been nominated for National Magazine Awards in 2009 and 2010. John Kissick is currently the Director of the School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph, and is represented by Katzman Kamen Gallery in Toronto and Peter Wilde Gallery in Berlin.

Peter MacGowan Partner, Financial Services Group, Blakes 2011-2014

Peter is a graduate of the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC '81) and of the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. He is a partner with Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP where he has practised corporate and banking law since joining the firm in 1990. After graduating from Guelph, Peter competed as an oarsman with the Canadian National Rowing Team, including at the 1984 Olympic Games. He subsequently served as a infantry officer with Her Majesty's Canadian Armed Forces for five years. Peter is married with a son and a daughter. He continues as an active rowing competitor, and spends as much time as he can on his family's Grey County farm.

Andrew is a graduate of the University of Guelph and holds a B.A. (Management Economics). He is the President & CEO of Richardson GMP Ltd, with over 20 years experience in investment industry as equity analyst, investment advisor, branch management, and executive management roles. Andrew is a member of the National Private Client Committee of Investment Industry Association of Canada, member of Investment Management Consultants Association and Center for Fiduciary Excellence, Chairman of fundraising board for “Right to Play Canada”, as well as a Member of “Canada Company”, a charitable, non-partisan organization that serves to build the bridge between business and community leaders and the Canadian Military. Andrew has been married for 20 years and has 3 children.

Virginia McLaughlin President, Helmhorst Investments Ltd. 2008-2014

Virginia McLaughlin currently serves as a trustee on the Boards of the University of Guelph, Wellspring and the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology. She is also Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel 25 (Toronto) Field Ambulance. She is immediate past Chair of the Board of Directors, Sunnybrook Health Science Centre and a past chair of the Governance Leadership Council of the Ontario Hospital Association. In addition she sits on Sunnybrook's Building Committee, co-chairs the Cancer Campaign Cabinet for Sunnybrook, the Quality Council of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and is a Director of the Atlantic Council of Canada. Wendy Millar EVP & Chief Risk Officer Personal and Commercial Banking BMO Financial Group Wendy Millar is the EVP & Chief Risk Officer for the Personal and Commercial Bank and has been with BMO since 1983. Ms. Millar has held a number of executive leadership roles across the Personal and Commercial business and the Enterprise Risk and Portfolio Management group including commercial banking, product management, credit risk and management of the Bank’s high risk personal and commercial accounts. Ms Millar was previously on the Board of the Children’s Aid Foundation, Interac, MasterCard International Debit and holds various Board positions on several subsidiaries and strategic alliances for the Bank. Sofia Oke Undergraduate Student (BSc, Toxicology, 3rd year) 2012-2013

Sofia is going into her third year of Toxicology at the University of Guelph. Since high school, Sofia has always had a curiosity to learn about the world around her but it was her empathy for a friend with breast cancer that encouraged her and a partner to investigate a remedy to reduce the adverse side effects of chemotherapy. Their innovation earned them numerous recognitions at local science fairs and even the Petro-Canada Innovation Award at the Canada Wide Science Fair. Despite the many hours that Sofia has committed to lab research, she has still found time to volunteer within the community. For the past 5 years Sofia has been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, the Canadian Blood Services and the Canadian Red Cross. Sofia’s commitment to the community and her work in research earned her the City of Guelph’s Top 40 under 40 recognition in 2009 and later she was named as one of Canada’s Top 20 under 20. Today, Sofia continues to be actively involved within her University of Guelph community as a Bachelor of Science representative on Senate, Vice President of the Toxicology Student’s Association (TOXSA) and as a organizing member of Guelph’s Dare to Remember campaign with the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Off Campus, Sofia will be starting her second year on the board of governors with the Aids Committee of Guelph (ACG).

Neil Parkinson Partner, Audit, National Insurance Sector Leader, KPMG 2012 - 2015

Neil is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (FCA) and a partner in KPMG LLP. He has worked in public accounting since receiving a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo in 1977, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1978. He is KPMG’s National Insurance Sector Leader for Canada, based in Toronto. Neil is the chair of the Insurance Auditors Advisory Committee to the Canadian federal financial services regulator, the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada, and is a member of the Canadian Accounting Standards Board’s Insurance Accounting Task Force and of KPMG's global insurance technical committee. He has chaired or co-chaired technical working groups for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and joint working groups with the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He has also served as a volunteer, director, treasurer, board chair or president of several community organizations, and is currently a member of the board of directors of Prostate Cancer Canada.

Mike Ridley Special Graduate Faculty, University of Guelph 2012-2015

Until January 2012 Michael Ridley was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Librarian at the University of Guelph. Currently, during his sabbatical, he is writing a “book- like-thing” on literacy, completing a graduate degree in higher education, editing Access (the magazine of the Ontario Library Association), teaching, and consulting with a number of professional organizations. Ridley has been a professional librarian since 1979 working at a variety of positions at the University of Guelph, the Health Sciences Library at McMaster University, and the University of Waterloo. In 1995 he returned to the University of Guelph as the Chief Librarian and in 2004 was named the CIO. Ridley has served as the President of the Canadian Association for Information Science, President of the Ontario Library Association, and Chair of the Ontario Council of University Libraries. He has been a member of the Board of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN),and the Canadian University Council of CIOs (CUCCIO). Currently Ridley serves on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network (ORION).

Kate Stevenson Corporate Director 2009-2012

Kate Stevenson is a Corporate Director serving on a number of public and not-for-profit Boards. She is certified by the Institute of Corporate Directors with the official designation ICD.D. Kate is a member of the Board of Directors of CIBC, CAE Inc., Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc., and Open Text Corporation. Kate also served on the Board of Directors of OSI Pharmaceuticals in the U.S. until the sale of the company in 2010. Kate's not-for-profit Boards are The Bishop Strachan School for girls where she is a Governor and past Chair. She is currently on the Board of Governors at the University of Guelph. Kate was formerly global Treasurer of Nortel Networks. She acted as Executive Advisor for the Women's Executive Council, which develops leadership qualities in the workplace for both professional and personal growth. Prior to joining Nortel, Kate worked at J.P. Morgan in New York as Vice-President, Corporate Finance. She joined J.P. Morgan after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University.

Alastair J.S. Summerlee President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Guelph 2003-2013

Dr. Alastair Summerlee is the University of Guelph’s seventh president. President Summerlee, whose career as a scholar, professor, researcher and administrator spans nearly 30 years, joined the University of Guelph faculty in 1988 as a professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. He was named an associate dean of the Ontario Veterinary College in 1992, dean of graduate studies in 1995, associate vice-president (academic) in 1999, provost and vice-president (academic) in 2000, and president in 2003. He has continued teaching while holding administrative positions and was awarded a prestigious 3M Teaching Fellowship in June 2003 for outstanding leadership in teaching, education and academic program development. His research in biomedical sciences is acclaimed internationally and he has attracted significant funding to support his research, published extensively and been an invited lecturer at universities and colleges around the world. He holds a B.Sc., B.V.Sc., Ph.D. and LLD, from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom and is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Trish Walker THE Consulting, President 2007-2013

As a consultant, Patricia (Trish) Walker, of Moffat, conducts consumer research within the consumer and packaged goods industry and provides higher education planning advice to the secondary school market. Prior to her current consultant role, Ms. Walker was Director of Business Development for ACCE International, Vice President of Marketing and Sales with WorkNet Inc., Director of Operations with the Canadian Living Foundation's Breakfast for Learning, and Director of Alumni Affairs at the University of Guelph. Her community involvement includes serving as Past President of the University of Guelph Alumni Association, and former member of the Guelph Community Foundation Marketing Committee and past Chair of the University of Guelph United Way campaign. She holds a Masters of Science in Consumer Behaviour and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from the University of Guelph.

Chris Whitfield Chair, Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology 2010-2014

Dr. Chris Whitfield is an international authority on the assembly of glycoconjugates (complex carbohydrates) on the surfaces of pathogenic bacteria. His work has provided broad insight into how these large molecules move through bacterial cell walls, and their potential as targets for antimicrobial therapy. His research group applies research strategies including biochemistry, microbiology, molecular genetics, and structural biology to address complex issues in microbial cell biology. Dr. Whitfield holds a Canada Research Chair in Molecular Microbiology at the University of Guelph and is the founding Chair of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, the largest Department at the University of Guelph. Dr. Whitfield has served on several editorial boards for prestigious international peer-reviewed journals and numerous grant panels. He has also held consultancies with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in Canada, the US and Europe. Dr. Whitfield’s awards include the Canadian Society of Microbiology/Roche Prize, a CIHR Senior Investigator Award, and Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology.
