In order to have information on doctors or medical facilities within the Naples consular district, you should contact the Italian Medical Association ("Ordine dei Medici") in the area of your interest (http://portale.fnomceo.it/) HOSPITALS AND CLINICS Medical facilities in Italy may assist Italian permanent residents or tourists with any type of emergencies that may occur. Tourists are expected to have travel insurance when they come to Italy although they are often expected to pay the hospital charges and then claim reimbursement from their insurance when they come home. Italian hospitals do not provide drinking water, toiletries, or towels and patients are required to bring their own supplies. Sometimes Italian hospitals do not maintain the same standard as hospitals in the United States but this is not an indication of the medical care that will be received. For that reason it is recommended to obtain a medical insurance before travelling to Italy which covers a stay in a private hospital or clinic. MEDICAL EMERGENCIES In case of an emergency refer to the nearest hospital. Most general and regional hospitals have emergency rooms, which operate 24h, 7/7. To call an ambulance, or if you are in need of immediate medical attention, dial 118 (toll free) from any telephone in Italy. You can also call the Police dialing 113, which is equivalent to 911 in the US. He is succeeded by Archbishop Alessandro Damiano, until now coadjutor archbishop of the same archdiocese. Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo The Holy Father has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bishop Fulgence Muteba Mugalu, transferring him from the diocese of Kilwa-Kasenga. Curriculum vitae Bishop Fulgence Muteba Mugalu was born on 9 July 1962 in the diocese of Kongolo, was ordained a priest on 5 August 1990 and appointed bishop of Kilwa-Kasenga on 18 March 2005. 2 After graduating in pastoral theology from the University of Montreal in Canada, he was professor of theology in Lubumbashi and at the Catholic University of Kinshasa; secretary of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) and later secretary general of the same Episcopal Conference. As a bishop he served as coordinator of the Inter-Diocesan Commission for Justice and Peace of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lubumbashi and president of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of Faith of the CENCO.

    Land of Fires

    The politicization of ill bodies in Campania, Italy Ilenia Iengo1 Marco Armiero Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden Abstract The communities affected by toxic contamination in Campania, Italy, have had to confront the challenge of proving a direct causal connection between exposure to pollutants and health issues, given a long history of mismanagement of waste. Medical studies have been conducted, but the social and political debate is static. In September 2014, the Italian Ministry of Health simply repeated earlier statements that Campania's increasing cancer rates are due to poor lifestyle habits. The article casts light on the politicization of ill bodies of Campania. We analyze three practices of political action and resistance which employed the subjectivization of physical bodies and illnesses to expose environmental injustice affecting communities. In the neighborhood of Pianura, Naples, people gathered medical records as evidence for a trial into 'culpable epidemics.' In the so-called Land of Fires, in the northern periphery of Naples, hundreds of postcards featuring pictures of children killed by rare pathologies were sent to the Italian Head of State and the Pope. Finally, in the town of Acerra, the blood of a dying shepherd became a political object to prove exposure to dioxin contamination in that area. The politicization of illness and bodies conflates the public and private, challenges the mainstream production of knowledge, and proposes an alternative narrative for affected communities and individuals. Nevertheless, the practices of this politicization have differed and are not always 'political', as we will show through the three cases.     foto Municipalities (link 3) Modica Modica [ˈmɔːdika] (Sicilian: Muòrica, Greek: Μότουκα, Motouka, Latin: Mutyca or Motyca) is a city and comune of 54.456 inhabitants in the Province of Ragusa, Sicily, southern Italy. The city is situated in the Hyblaean Mountains. Modica has neolithic origins and it represents the historical capital of the area which today almost corresponds to the Province of Ragusa. Until the 19th century it was the capital of a County that exercised such a wide political, economical and cultural influence to be counted among the most powerful feuds of the Mezzogiorno. Saint George’s Church in Modica Historical chocolate’s art in Modica The Cioccolato di Modica ("Chocolate of Modica", also known as cioccolata modicana) is an Italian P.G.I. specialty chocolate,[1] typical of the municipality of Modica in Sicily, characterized by an ancient and original recipe using manual grinding (rather than conching) which gives the chocolate a peculiar grainy texture and aromatic flavor.[2][3][4] The specialty, inspired by the Aztec original recipe for Xocolatl, was introduced in the County of Modica by the Spaniards, during their domination in southern Italy.[5][6] Since 2009 a festival named "Chocobarocco" is held every year in the city. Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto (South-Eastern Sicily) The eight towns in south-eastern Sicily: Caltagirone, Militello Val di Catania, Catania, Modica, Noto, Palazzolo, Ragusa and Scicli, were all rebuilt after 1693 on or beside towns existing at the time of the earthquake which took place in that year.

    Dear Friends of Meredith Travel, I just spent a most enjoyable morning. In preparation for writing this letter about our September 25-October 7, 2018, tour of Sicily, I reviewed my photographs from the trip I made there this past summer. I simply can’t wait to go back! Betty describes southern Italy as Italy to the 3rd power—older, grander, and more richly complex. Sicily, we agree, is Italy to the 10th power, at least. It was, by far, the most exotic version of our favorite country that I have yet to encounter, made so by its location and history, which includes a dizzying mix of cultures. It was Greek far longer than it has been Italian. It was Arab. Norman. Swabian. Aragonese. Austrian. Even Bourbon French! All left their mark. And finally, and relatively recently (1860), the Risorgimento fought it into being part of unified Italy. The food, the architecture, and customs can best be understood by experiencing them all firsthand, so without further ado, I would like to summarize our itinerary for you. Join me now as we vicariously tour Sicily together. Day 1: Sept. 25 (Tues) Departure. We depart the U.S. to arrive the next day in Palermo, the capital of the autonomous region of Sicily. Day 2: Sept. 26 (Wed) Palermo. Palermo is a city of 700,000, by far the largest on the island, with an ancient historic city center with structures representing the panorama of its past. After a quick driving tour to orient us to the city, we stop, drop bags at the hotel, and head out to see perhaps the most perfect medieval buildings in the world, the Norman Palace and Palatine Chapel, the latter known for its extraordinary mosaics designed in such a way that the aesthetics of the Arab, Jewish, and Norman artisans are all incorporated.
