2 DECEMBER 22, 2019 From the Pastor May we always keep in mind that this parish exists to give glory to God in all we do and for each one of us to be sanctified in our lives. St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us.

Rorate Caeli Mass Merry ! Join me tomorrow evening, December 23 at 7:00 p.m. as I Today we find ourselves celebrating the Fourth Sunday of celebrate a candlelight Mass called Rorate Caeli. The Rorate . We are getting closer to the celebration of the coming Caeli Mass takes its name from the opening words of the Feast of Christmas. I pray that your preparations have been entrance , which comes to us from Isaiah 45:8: fruitful and you find your heart ready to welcome Christ. I am so blessed to serve a wonderful Parish Community that is “Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant justum, aperiatur terra, growing in faith and love of God. When we continue to give et germinet Salvatorem.” ourselves more to Christ and surrender our own wills, He gifts us with what He knows we need. That is the best present we “Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds could ever receive. rain the just: let the earth be opened and bud forth a Savior.”

I want to recommend to you that you pray a special prayer of The Rorate Caeli Mass is lit only by candlelight. In the dimly lit surrender. I have found it very fruitful in my life as I give setting, priest and faithful prepare to honor the Light of the everything over to God and put it in His hands. This is a world, Who is soon to be born, and offer praise to God for the prayer so it’s 9 days, but here is day 1. You can find the rest of gift of Our Lady. Typically this Mass is celebrated in early the days online. morning and as the Mass proceeds and sunrise approaches, the church becomes progressively brighter, illumined by the sun as our Faith is illumined by Christ. This Mass of course will be at 7 p.m. in the evening but we will still have the same prayerful effect of preparing for the coming of Jesus.

In Advent, we live spiritually between the and the birth of Christ. Mary teaches us the spirit of Advent and inner attitude we should have during Advent. During the nine months of pregnancy, Mary lived a hidden life, in the spirit of silence and intense intimacy with Christ whom she carried in her womb. The symbolism of the candle matches very well with the spirit of Advent because it is still not the bright light of Christmas. The Church and the soul are still struggling through the darkness towards the Light. That is why there is a longing and expectancy of Advent. The light of our candles is a symbol of our longing for the coming of our Savior Whose light is already dawning.

On behalf of Fr. Staley, Dn. DuFaux, our Seminarian Gregory, and all the Faculty and Staff of our Schools, I extend to you our Christmas greetings. Please know that you are always in our prayers. I hope you have a wonderful celebration of the Nativity of Our Lord!

Holy Land Pilgrimage

Just a reminder that I will be leaving on Saturday, December 28 for the Holy Land as I travel with the Transitional Deacon Seminarians. I will return to the Parish on Saturday, December 18. Please know that I will carry with me all your intentions and will be praying for what Our Lord wants from us as we begin a new year. Please pray for us as we travel and that our hearts will be opened a new as we stand in those holiest of places that Jesus walked. FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT 3 Weekly Reflection:

“You too must be patient. Make your hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand.” (James 5:8)

Patience is another one of those things many of us struggle with. We want things to go according to our plan and our schedule. Any change brings anxiety and fear. Through daily prayer we better align ourselves with God’s will and His plan, Spending Time with God in Prayer. which is far better than anything we can come up with on our Enter into prayer in a special way at the Rorate Caeli own. Candlelight Mass on Monday, December 23 at 7:00 pm.

During the day-long session some of our teachers, who have used project-based learning, participated on a panel to answer questions and tell of their experience.

Through Catholic Connections, students at St. Francis are learning skills from a mixture of subjects (language arts, math, science, social studies, the arts, PE, world languages, AND Catholic teachings) through an authentic project. These projects will be revealed at our annual Catholic School’s Week Open House on January 26 – so save the date! The classes, and teams of middle school students, will work on these projects, involving real-world problems and expert solutions, through April. We will showcase our learning at our Spring Home and School Showcase on May 13th so be sure to save that date as well!

Thank you to our parents who supported our need for this professional day in the middle of the week, and to our students who suffered a day off from school. We can’t wait for everyone to see the exceptional learning experiences that will be available to St. Francis students second semester!
