  • THE GAME EXPLAINED 48 & 75 TRAM JOLIMONT STATION Incredibly Fast and Exciting, Australian Football Is Full of Amazing Courage, Athleticism and Skill
TWITTER.COM/AFLDIVERSITY FACEBOOK.COM/AFLMULTICULTURALPROGRAM THE GAME EXPLAINED 48 & 75 TRAM JOLIMONT STATION Incredibly fast and exciting, Australian Football is full of amazing courage, athleticism and skill. Here is a guide to how the game is played. THE ESSENTIALS The game starts when a field umpire bounces the ball in the middle of the ground. The ball is also bounced in the centre to start each quarter and after a goal has been scored. Games are divided into four quarters of 20 minutes, plus extra time. Teams swap ends after each quarter. There are 22 players in a team and 18 are allowed on the playing field at any one time. THE AIM OF THE GAME It is all about kicking goals. That means kicking the ball through the tall inner sticks (the goalposts) to score six points for your team. If the ball goes between a goalpost and either of the smaller outer sticks, then a behind (worth one point) is scored. The ball play must remain within the boundary line, or else the ball is returned to the umpire to throw the ball back in play. The team that finishes with the biggest total score overall is the winner. THE SCORE WOOLWORTHS AFL PLAYGROUND When it comes to reading or writing the scores, the goals go first, then the behinds, then the total points. 246 BUS For example, a score of 10 goals and six behinds is a total of 66 points and is written 10.6 (66). UMPIRES THE MCG 70 TRAM RICHMOND STATION Field umpires: three field umpires control the game and award free kicks where the rules have been breached Boundary umpires: There are four boundary umpires who decide when the ball is out of bounds or out of bounds on the full.

Mr Cochrane has previously run the ‘Gabba in Brisbane and the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre, and has more recently served as chief executive of US Consulting Firm, Pure Wealth Consulting. • Qclash Gabba Guide Before You Leave Home When You
QCLASH GABBA GUIDE Dear AFL Brisbane Junior families, Here is your QClash Gabba Guide to make sure you find your seats and have a great time at the game. Here are a few quick simple tips you might want to consider before you leave home and when you get to the game: BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME - PRINT OFF YOUR TICKETS! You’ll need these to gain access to the stadium and know where you’re seated. You can print your tickets from your myLions account. - When you pass through the gates, you’ll need to have your tickets ready for scanning at the turnstiles. You can fold your tickets into thirds so the barcode is facing up – it sure makes it easier for scanning! - If you’re catching public transport to the game, make sure you plan ahead, and check for any service disruptions – you can do this by visiting Translink. Queensland Rail has also advised that the train line from Varsity Lakes to Park Road Milton will be down this weekend. Our Match Day Centre has information about the nearest public transport hubs to the Gabba. - You might also like to check the weather. At this stage, we’re in for a mostly sunny day, but it’s a good idea to check closer to the time. It can get chilly at the game, so pack a warm jumper or jacket, as it can turn chilly as the sun sets. We also offer 11 Merchandise outlets around the stadium for you to purchase your Brisbane Lions apparel – our scarves are great for winter! - If you’re looking for a bite to eat before the game, there’s a variety of cafes and restaurants around the Gabba precinct and multiple food outlets inside the stadium.
