  • Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany Share Stories of ‘Sitcom Bootcamp’ for Disney+ Series Wandavision in Emmy®
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ELIZABETH OLSEN AND PAUL BETTANY SHARE STORIES OF ‘SITCOM BOOTCAMP’ FOR DISNEY+ SERIES WANDAVISION IN EMMY® (NOHO ARTS DISTRICT, Calif. — Dec. 18, 2020) — In a challenging year where streaming services like Disney+ brought us together, WandaVision looks to two characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to change the future of television by paying homage to its past. Emmy, the award-winning official publication of the Television Academy, which hits newsstands Dec. 22, talks with series stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany and executive producer Kevin Feige about the upcoming series, which premieres Jan. 15, and the future of the fastest- growing platform. As noted in the emmy cover story, “Not Your Mother’s Suburbs,” WandaVision follows the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame and explores the adventures of Wanda Maximoff (Olsen) and her love, an android named Vision (Bettany). When then-Disney CEO Robert Iger approached Feige, Marvel Studios president and chief creative officer, about expanding the MCU, Feige already had an idea of which characters he would showcase. “Elizabeth and Paul were these amazing actors— who had done amazing things in four [Marvel] movies—but never had a chance to dominate the narrative because there was so much else going on. It felt fun to finally give them a platform to showcase their astounding talent,” says Feige. Bettany had assumed that his run as Vision had concluded with his death in Avengers: Infinity War but saw the return of his character as “exciting and bonkers.” “Of course I said I was in!” he says. “What I love about Wanda in the comic books, and what drew me to her originally,” adds Olsen, “is what we get to explore in a beautiful way.” Matt Shakman, who directed all six episodes of WandaVision and is also an executive producer, describes the show as “a love letter to television.” The series draws inspiration from a variety of sitcoms through various eras, including I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Brady Bunch.

  • Solo Movie Brings on Writer Ned Benson
'Black Widow' Solo Movie Brings on Writer Ned Benson Author : @TheInscriberMag Ever since Scarlett Johansson breathed life into Marvel’s character, Black Widow, fans have eagerly anticipated a stand-alone movie. Even though this new film will likely not follow the order of Marvel movies linearly, new reports reveal that this production has inched one step closer to the big screen. Now that the crew has brought on writer Ned Benson, fans eagerly await what he has in store for the script. Ned Benson is a screenwriter, director, and producer, best known for his recent work on “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.” He joined the cast after previous writer, Jac Schaeffer, had written the script’s previous edition. Reports note that fans have wanted a Black Widow stand alone film since her first appearance in “Iron Man 2” in 2010. Since then, Black Widow has appeared in a number of Marvel movies, including “Captain America,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Iron Man 3,” “The Avengers,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” The order of Marvel movies has never quite lined up in a coherent way, causing much frustration among fans. As universes are established and new characters are introduced, however, it isn’t surprising that filmmakers and screenwriters have taken liberties with the timeline. Even though the Black Widow movie has been in the works for years, it was only after her position as a fan favorite that producers saw this as a viable option. And they certainly don’t want to mess this up. Marvel Studios reportedly interviewed more than 70 potential directors for the movie before choosing Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland.

  • Black Widow Production Notes
“Before I worked for S.H.I.E.L.D., I made mistakes, but I’m done running from my past. We have to go back to where it all started. We have unfinished business. One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a hell of a reunion.” ~ Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. “I think from the very beginning when we first started talking about doing this standalone film, there was no reason to do it unless we could really dig deep and be brave and go there,” says Scarlett Johansson, who reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow. “Having played this character for a decade, I wanted to make sure that it would feel artistically and creatively rewarding for me as well as the fans.” Producer Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ president and chief creative officer, says that Natasha Romanoff has sparked intrigue since her big-screen debut in 2010’s “Iron Man 2.” “She has such a rich backstory,” says Feige. “We’ve hinted at it throughout all the other films. But we approach it in a completely unexpected way. She’s been up to a lot all along—in between when we see her in the other movies—some of which will be surprising to people.” According to Feige, it was Johansson who reached out to director Cate Shortland to see if she’d consider helming the film.

  • Production Brief
PRODUCTION BRIEF In Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” Sam Wilson aka The Falcon and Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience. According to executive producer Kevin Feige, who is president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel, the series gave filmmakers a chance to dive a little deeper into two intriguing characters. “Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are spectacular actors and we felt like we hadn't explored their stories enough as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes,” says Feige. “We wanted to learn more about both of them after the interactions they had with each other in ‘The Winter Soldier’ and ‘Civil War.’ It was a very fun dynamic. We thought that if we ever had the opportunity, we’d watch a whole show with the two of them, and Disney+ finally gives us that opportunity.” Debuting exclusively on Disney+ on March 19, 2021, “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” has the cinematic feel of a feature film, but plays out over six episodes. “It’s an epic, character-driven story,” says director Kari Skogland. “We get to go inside these characters and their world in a much more intimate way. If the movies were a snack, this six-hour series is the meal. And yet, it has all of the wonderful things that come with the MCU—action, comedy, the high-octane pace, familiar faces and new characters. It’s all incredibly relatable. “They know each other and they share a common denominator, Steve Rogers, but they aren’t particularly good friends,” continues Skogland.
