DESTINATION INFORMATION 2014-15 Attractions, added in 2014-15 The Beach at JBR Opened: February 2014 Set along the The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence, The Beach is a 300,000 square foot low- rise development interconnected by tree-lined pedestrian walkways with views onto the Arabian Gulf. On offer is a selection of shops, numerous restaurants and cafés, as well as a cinema, including the region’s largest open-air beach screen. www.thebeach.ae Arabian Water Parks Opened: April 2014 This floating inflatable bouncy playground, anchored a few metres off the coast of The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence, is made up of trampolines, slides, climbing walls and a host of other obstacles and islands, all watched over by professional safety guards. Able to accommodate up to 130 people of all ages, it’s the biggest water park of its kind in the world, promising hours of fun and laughs. www.arabianwaterparks.com Emirates A380 Experience Opened: April 2014 For aspiring pilots and those with dreams of taking to the skies can experience what it’s like to fly the world’s largest aircraft – all thanks to Emirates Airline’s realistic flight simulator at The Dubai Mall. Choose your destination, select your time of day and even set the weather before you fly over your choice of 12 different destinations on a number of different flight paths. The experience lasts 30 minutes and is so realistic it can be used for training genuine pilots. www.emiratesa380experience.com iPILOT Opened: June 2014 Located at Mirdif City Centre, iPILOT is a flight simulator that lets visitors pilot a Boeing 737 or an Airbus A380 within a fully enclosed cockpit. Choose your take-off and landing location from more than 24,000 airports around the world, and then let the instructors – many experienced pilots themselves – guide you through the amazing experience, open to kids as young as six years. www.flyipilot.ae Bounce Opened: June 2014 Dubai’s first trampoline park in Al Quoz has taken the city by storm, offering visitors of all ages a world of exhilarating fun. It boasts over 100 interconnected trampolines divided into various zones for free jumping, dodge ball, stunt jumps and slam dunks. Bounce also offers trampolining sessions for kids as young as three years. http://bounce.ae Jump Boxx Opened: August 2014 At home in Uptown Mirdiff, Jump Boxx is the second trampoline park to open in Dubai, offering a huge play area for all ages within a purpose built facility with over 100 interconnected trampolines. Also on offer are dodge-ball courts, slam dunk hoops, a free-jump arena, VIP party rooms and a coffee shop. Kids as young as three years are welcome. www.jump-boxx.com At The Top, Burj Khalifa SKY Opened: October 2014 The world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, has set another Guinness World Record – for ‘Highest Observation Deck’ – with the launch of the At The Top, Burj Khalifa SKY experience, offering guests the chance to go all the way up to the 148th floor. That’s an ear-popping 555 metres (or 1,821 feet) above ground, a full 67m higher than the previous record holder and 24 floors higher than the existing At the Top observation deck. The new experience offers breath-taking 360- degree views as well as a host of additional attractions. www.burjkhalifa.ae/en/ObservationDeck/atthetopexperience.aspx Jumeirah Corniche Opened: October 2014 Constructed along the beach adjoining six residential districts, stretching from the area behind Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa to the Burj Al Arab, the Jumeirah Corniche is a full 14 kilometres in length, making it the longest of its kind in the emirate. The project comprises a five-metre wide walkway, a four-metre wide jogging track, rest houses fitted with commercial kiosks, shaded benches overlooking the beach, as well as public and health amenities. It facilitate a variety of sports and family-friendly activities, and will also link up with the Dubai Canal project currently under development. City Sightseeing Launched: October 2014 Dubai’s hop-on, hop-off city tour, with modern double-decker buses and a dozen language options, allow passengers to explore different areas of interest at their own pace. Several routes are offered, including the Blue Route with 12 stops – namely The Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa, Jumeirah Mosque, Madinat Jumeirah, and onto the iconic Palm Jumeirah. Its Red Route has 16 stops, including the Gold and Spice Souks, Al Fahidi, the Dubai Museum and finally the Old Souk. Other options are the Golden Route, with takes in Dubai Marina, and the Global Village and Miracle Garden route visiting the two spots of which the tour is named. www.city-sightseeing.com FlyBike Tours Launched: October 2014 Dubai-based Flybike Fun Dubai hires out a fleet of Honda Gold Wing 1800 – both motorbikes and trikes – on which visitors can zip past the city’s landmarks. FlyBike offers set excursions including night adventures and the Old and New day tour, which buzzes through Dubai’s historical district in Bur Dubai and then on to the Burj Khalifa. The new culturally rich Sahara tour is a three-hour desert trip that stops at the Camel Racetrack, Camel Market, the desert cycling track and Bab Al Shams Desert Resort. www.flybike.info/en/ Dubai Tram Opened: November 2014 The tramline running from Dubai Marina to Al Sufouh has transformed the way people travel around the bustling Marina area. Powered by electricity, this environment-friendly transportation takes passengers along the 10.6 km route in 42 minutes, travelling at a maximum speed of 50km/h with trams operating at six-minute intervals. Stations along the way include Jumeirah Beach Residence, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai Marina Mall, Dubai Marina, Mina Seyahi, Media City, Palm Jumeirah, Knowledge Village and Al Sufouh. Two of these stations – Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers – link via footbridges to the Dubai Metro, allowing for a smooth and seamless interchange for passengers between the two systems. A cycle path runs beside the tram line with cycle racks installed at every tram station. Phase two of the Al Sufouh Tram Route will also link up with Palm Monorail and Dubai Metro station at Mall of the Emirates. www.alsufouhtram.com Dubai International Writers’ Centre Opened: November 2014 Located in the historic and cultural area of Shindigha, beside Dubai Creek, this new centre celebrates the written word. Open to aspiring writers, book worms, poetry lovers or simply those eager to hear from accomplished authors, the DIWC offers book recitals, authors in residence and creative writing workshops throughout the year. The reconstructed wind-tower house itself makes a pleasant spot in which to spend a few hours reading in the coffee shop. www.diwc.ae BoxPark Opened: February 2015 Located in Jumeirah on Al Wasl Road, this open-air shopping and leisure precinct is made up of 220 shipping and industrial containers of various colours on a 1,200-metre stretch. Featuring up to 44 high-end F&B outlets and retail stores, BOXPARK was developed by Meraas Holding to provide a refreshing alternative to large and often closed indoor malls. www.boxpark.ae Dubai Butterfly Park Opened: March 2015 Located at Dubai’s Miracle Garden, this 3d garden designed around the theme of butterflies, consists of nine domes each dome will be filled with different colours, sizes and species of butterfly. Between this domes is a butterfly museum and butterfly flower park. www.dubaibutterflygarden.com Muscle Beach Dubai Opened: March 2015 Opened to encourage residents and visitors to get fit in the great outdoors, the owners of the local The Warehouse Gym has opened Dubai’s answer to California’s Muscle Beach. Complete with weight lifting equipment, CrossFit apparatus, rope climbs, kettle bells, rowing machines and jumpboxes, the new outdoor facility located at The Beach opposite JBR offers all the equipment needed for an al fresco workout. www.whgym.com d3 Opened: April 2015 Dubai Design District, known as d3, is located near Downtown Dubai and is the city’s hub for design, acting as an incubator for emerging UAE-based designers and artists, as well as providing a natural home for art galleries and studios. With more than 220 business partners signed up in Phase 1, d3 is looking to grow its partner base and the business interest following its soft opening ‘Meet d3’ event that took place 2-4 April 2015. www.dubaidesigndistrict.com Dubai Trolley Opened: April 2015 The world's first hydrogen-powered; zero-emission street tram system has started operating in Downtown Dubai, with three trolley stations located near The Address Downtown Dubai, Vida Downtown Dubai and Manzil Downtown Dubai. As part of the initial phase, the driver operated trolley will tour a distance of 1km around the Downtown Dubai area offering free access for visitors and residents, operating from 4pm - midnight on weekdays and 3pm - 11pm on weekends. The postbox red double decker trolley can carry around 50 passengers and when fully operational will span across the entire breadth of Downtown Dubai, offering free transportation for all. www.emaar.com Updated: April 2015 .
