Although the weather was a tad warm, it still didn’t stop hundreds of car enthusiasts and spectators from attending the fun-filled event. Every year, the Small Town Cruizers Car Club strives to be good stewards of the local community through charity and goodwill, by hosting an annual car show towards the end of the cruise season, with the net proceeds benefiting a local K-9 charity. This year, the fun for the entire family event attracted a huge crowd, more than two dozen vendors, and a myriad of cool cars! Spectators of all ages came out to meander around the car show, and enjoy a close up look at all of the hot rods and classic rides. Throughout the day, car buffs and spectators alike were constantly checking their tickets, in the hopes of winning one of the countless raffle prizes on display to be given away to some lucky winner! Even as the temperature continued to climb as the day rolled along, people could still be seen smiling, and having a good time. However, eventually all good things must come to an end, and during the final hour of the show, several participants were rewarded with prized trophies, representing the “best of the best” at this year’s show! As you may or may not know, hosting an annual car show takes a lot of planning, time and energy. This year, things were made a little easier with the help of our proud sponsors, especially those special sponsors who support the event year after year! The car show would not even be possible without the help from all of the event sponsors. Another first this year, was the addition of a “Mega” sponsor, who served a key role Kings & Tulare County Only! with the car show and the club’s K-9 charity. In the end, the Cruizers managed to raise over $10,000 in support of our local law enforcement heroes, to help with the purchase of a new canine for the Visalia Police K-9 Department. Every year, the club is absolutely thrilled when they can give back to the local community. Besides enlightening the hearts of our members, each new dog added to our local K-9 agencies will enhance the safety of our own neighborhoods and WE help save lives! I don't know about you, but I'm going to enjoy as much of this beautiful weather as possible before winter sets in. For those of you that are contemplating an engine rebuild or freshen up over the winter, I would like to make a suggestion. A few years ago they released a 2-axis single point CNC Valve Seat and Guide machine manufactured by Newen, called the Contour-BB. Pro Tech is a proud owner of this revolu- tionary machine. In my opinion this machine practically makes all other seat and guide ma- chines obsolete. With the Newen machine, chatter marks and undulations are impossible to generate using the single point cutter. Valve seat angles can be changed every one-hundredth of a degree. You can program any valve seat profile into the computer that is advantageous to the seat profile and airflow or duplicate exactly an existing seat. My suggestion is if you are going to have the seats cut on your heads it would be benefi- cial to locate one of these machines in your area. If you are unable to find a Newen Machine, give me a call and I will try to locate one for you. Something that has raised its ugly head more so lately than normal is guys bringing in heads where the combustion chamber was actually larger than the bore size in the block. By Vic Groah Lately I have had the privilege to work with some somewhat younger members of our old car hobby. I know if you look at me you can plainly see that could cover most of the popula- tion of the earth today. After all I am so old they use carbon dating to determine my age. On a serious note one is my youngest son and another is a friend of his, a young man much younger than son Michael. As I have been around a while just by osmosis I have ab- sorbed a few things over the years that once in a while I can present to them as possible solu- tions to problems. Right off the start both of them can do a number of things way better than me. Both are superior welders and excellent general mechanics. Both are very mechanical and have good reasoning skills. Both are good at layout and general fabrication. With that said there are a few things that I am still a little better at than they are and here is where the story begins. Both are eager to learn and are not afraid to ask the old guy, “How do you do that”. I am delighted and humbled by the fact that such talented young men can come to me for a little something once in a while. What does this bode for the future of our hobby? I have heard many old guys say that the hobby is dying. Maybe, or is it just evolving? These young guys are working on stuff that I would not normally be drawn to but are valid aspects of the hobby and they are doing it with class and style. They come to us old guys to put our knowledge and theirs together to make a complete package. My talented son can build a safe, operating airplane out of a stack of raw materials and fly it away, and has done just that. The other young man is a master of building trucks and now is taking on building active race cars out of junk. As I look at the Hondas and trucks at cruse nights and car shows I realize the hobby is not dying, my generation may be dying out but these new guys are moving it on. The day of the model T Ford may be over and the tri five Chevys soon to pass but there may just be a future with these talented guys that march to a slightly different drummer. After all, when I was a young man in college my buddies and I were buying new solid axel Corvettes and the new mustangs. Who knew those were to become valued collector cars in our own time? I have owned 7 Mustangs and several Corvettes, still have two Mustangs and one solid axel Corvette. I can see the time when these will go the way of the Model T Ford. Just the old duffers will want them and few at that. I would much rather drive my Mustang than my model T Ford. (Yes, I still have a couple of those dinosaurs). What the future will bring I will not live long enough to find out but whatever it is I hope these young guys and gals will have as much fun at it as I have. It looks like the future of our wonderful hobby may be in good hands after all.

He offered up the truth when speaking to Automotive News (subscription required) in a Sunday report: the Mustang has been "eating our lunch." 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Turbo 1LE first drive Oppenheiser made the comment specifically noting the and its domi- nance of the pony-car sales chart, but he said his team is ready to play offense. "The low (transaction prices) of a 4-cylinder...that's where the bulk of the sales are and that's where our pricing strategy needed improvement. We plan to go head to head—and win," he said. The Camaro has dropped to third place as the Dodge Challenger moved to second place. Through July, the Camaro found 29,551 driveways while the Mustang sold 48,362 examples—a stark contrast when comparing fifth-generation sales. The previous-generation Camaro clobbered the Mustang for four years in a row until the sixth-generation Mustang debuted for the 2015 model year. Now, Oppenheiser and team plan to strike back with aggressive pricing at the lower end of the Camaro's portfolio. Chevy has slashed the entry-level 1LS model's price $1,000 to $25,995. Similar price cuts are present for the 1LT and 2LT models. To further bolster the turbocharged Camaro's image, the brand will also release the 2019 Camaro Turbo 1LE. The car bundles handling and performance goodies from the Camaro SS and Camaro V-6 1LE models with racier looks to better challenge turbo-4-powered Mustangs. Executives said the Camaro Turbo 1LE, which packs 275 horsepower, is also meant to challenge hot hatchbacks like the Honda Civic Type R and even performance sedans such as the Kia Stinger. Chevrolet also refreshed the 2019 Camaro's design across the lineup to spur & sales, though the looks have solicited controversial responses, especially in SS form. California Pinups & Patriots Inc.
