    PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year. The educated mind is most undeniably attempting to free itself from the heavy fetters of materialism. The ugly caterpillar is writhing in the agonies of death, under the powerful efforts of the psychic butterfly to escape from its science-built prison, and every day brings some new glad tidings of one or more such mental births to light. As the New York “Path” truly remarks in its September issue, when “Theosophical and kindred topics .... are made the text for novels”, and, we may add, scientific essays and brochures, “the implication is that interest in them has become diffused through all social ranks”. That kind of literature is “paradoxically proof that Occultism has passed beyond the region of careless amusement and entered that of serious enquiry”. The reader has but to throw a retrospective glance at the publications of the last few years to find that such topics as Mysticism, Magic, Sorcery, Spiritualism, Theosophy, Mesmerism, or, as it is now called, Hypnotism, all the various branches in short of the Occult side of nature, are becoming predominant in every kind of literature. They visibly increase in proportion to the efforts made to discredit the movements in the cause of truth, and strangle enquiry — whether on the field of theosophy or spiritualism — by trying to besmear their most prominent heralds, pioneers and defenders, with tar and feathers.

    Comment This paper makes an attempt at essay structure, but development is weak. There is an awkwardness in sentence structure that tends to interrupt the flow. Paragraphs are underdeveloped as they are only one or two sentences. It was a new beginning. Everything was going on. Things suddenly became all new. It was a shock at first but then things started getting alright. Getting introduced to a new school was another new beginning, new teachers, different homework assignments and new relationships. Going to school was not so bad since you get to meet new people. New people usually means more good company, you meet people that like to do things that you yourself like to do. Getting education is important because that is what gives you power. You usually be more successful. Getting a job is a new beginning if you are getting your first job. You get to earn money and get working experience as well. Starting new activities such as kickboxing is very good since you are keeping yourself fit and not just sitting around doing nothing watching t.v. eating potato chips. Not only does it keep you fit it boosts your self- esteem and confidence. Comments This paper is an honest attempt at narrative. The awkward sentence structure interrupts the flow of the paper. Paragraphs are not logically constructed, and vocabulary is simplistic. I have played Lacrosse for 14 years.     The College and Canons of St Stephen’s, Westminster, 1348 - 1548 Volume I of II Elizabeth Biggs PhD University of York History October 2016 Abstract This thesis is concerned with the college founded by Edward III in his principal palace of Westminster in 1348 and dissolved by Edward VI in 1548 in order to examine issues of royal patronage, the relationships of the Church to the Crown, and institutional networks across the later Middle Ages. As no internal archive survives from St Stephen’s College, this thesis depends on comparison with and reconstruction from royal records and the archives of other institutions, including those of its sister college, St George’s, Windsor. In so doing, it has two main aims: to place St Stephen’s College back into its place at the heart of Westminster’s political, religious and administrative life; and to develop a method for institutional history that is concerned more with connections than solely with the internal workings of a single institution. As there has been no full scholarly study of St Stephen’s College, this thesis provides a complete institutional history of the college from foundation to dissolution before turning to thematic consideration of its place in royal administration, music and worship, and the manor of Westminster. The circumstances and processes surrounding its foundation are compared with other such colleges to understand the multiple agencies that formed St Stephen’s, including that of the canons themselves. Kings and their relatives used St Stephen’s for their private worship and as a site of visible royal piety.

[email protected] Remember that although you may be isolated, no Christian is ever alone. www.gtyarmouthminster.org 3rd Sunday after Trinity In today's Gospel reading we hear about welcoming - that with every little welcoming act it is as if we are welcoming Jesus. We've recently been able to welcome visitors and pray-ers back into the Minster, we've welcomed people from around the world to worship with us online; in 'normal' times, we would be welcoming summer visitors to our services, but, of course, everything is a little bit different this year. This weekend would have been the second Great Yarmouth and Waveney Pride event, a chance to celebrate our community, and for those of us who are Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans, etc. to welcome the whole community to a celebration of living as one's authentic self. The Gt Yarmouth LGBTQ+ faith group 'Created' were involved last year, and there is usually a Christian/faith presence at Pride celebrations all around the world. People both inside and outside faith communities might find it surprising that those people of faith are involved in Pride, but it actually makes perfect sense. As the 'Created' group's name implies, these are people being fully who God created them to be; knowing that God loves them for who they are, not in spite of it; and wanting other people to know that they are fully known and loved too.
