Brenau University TV Setup Guide Brenau University Students Have Access to a Wide Selection of Both Standard and High Definition Digital Channels Brenau University TV Setup Guide Brenau University students have access to a wide selection of both standard and high definition digital channels. If you are going to bring a TV for use in your room, you must bring a television with a QAM­capable ​ ​ digital tuner if you intend to use the cable service we provide. Most televisions built in the last 8 years or so should have a QAM­capable digital tuner and you can verify it by reading the technical specifications before purchasing it. The televisions which will definitely NOT work are the old tube­type television sets. Finally, ​ please be sure to do a full channel scan on your television after it has been connected. Warning: There ​ ​ is a new TV brand called “Element” which does not have a QAM­tuner and should be avoided. These easy steps should help you get connected: 1. First, be sure that your television has a QAM­capable tuner built in. This is very important. If the ​ ​ television does not have a QAM­capable tuner it will not function with our system and you will either be forced to return it for one that does or you will need to purchase a tuner such as the Channel Master CM-7001 (Amazon.com) for an additional cost. ​ 2. Use a coaxial cable to connect your television to the wall jack. Note: You can purchase a coaxial cable at most any drug store, supermarket, Walmart, or Home Depot. The university does not provide coaxial cables for residence halls. 3. Turn on your television, click Menu, and set it to perform a “Channel Scan”. If there is an option to select cable or air, select cable. The instructions for doing this will vary by manufacturer. Below is an example of what that screen looks like: 4.
