Dear Friends,

The celebration of Holy Week and Easter this year was galvanizing for me. Celebrating the mysteries of our salvation and making them our own, certainly does help us understand what it means to be “bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh,” in the risen Body of Christ. We are one in the risen Body of Christ. That is what the Easter experience is all about.
It is in the relationship we have with Jesus and one another in Christ that we experience the power of the Spirit which raised Jesus from the dead, giving wings and breath to our lives. That has been the experience of Christians from the beginning, sharing the life of the resurrection received in Baptism when we died and rose

“He breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the

with Christ.
That is why we hear today of how the first
Christians, being of one heart and mind, “not

Holy Spirit’.”

Second Sunday

claiming their possessions as their own, but holding everything in common,” experienced great power bearing witness to the resurrection of Jesus in their lives. There was no needy person among them, property was sold and distributed to each according to need. Talk about radical faith! It is possible because we are begotten, progeny of God, as St. Paul tells us in the second reading, “for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.”
Jesus, as we hear in the gospel, gave us the Spirit — the Spirit that raised him from the dead, sending us out on mission as his disciples. “As the Father has sent me, so I send you… He breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’.

Who indeed is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

— 1 John 5:5

We are called and sent to continue the mission and ministry of
Jesus as his disciples. We are stewards of that trust and the gifts of the Holy Spirit we have been given. So today our Bishop calls us to exercise our stewardship of those gifts as mature Christian disciples to enable the mission of the church in our diocese through the annual Diocesan Appeal.

Welcome...

Guests and Visitors!

We are not an island. The parish of St. Thomas subsists in the
Diocese of Joliet, the diocese enables us and we, with all Catholics of our diocese, enable the diocese. We are like a family, one for all and all for one. Our parish, our ministers, the sacramental life and ministry of St. Thomas hinges on the ministry of our diocese. Support of our diocese is to support our parish and part of our total stewardship commitment. I urge everyone, at whatever level they can, to make some commitment to our Diocesan Annual Appeal. Our quota is based on percentage of those participating, so I ask everyone to do something, otherwise we must take monies from our operating funds to meet our diocesan quota. We are a strong parish with strong faith. I know in the true spirit of the resurrection that you will help to keep our church strong and enable the mission and ministry of Jesus in our diocese and our parish.
Thank you for being such a resurrection people!

St. Thomas is here to companion you on your faith journey. Come with us as we grow in closeness to Christ through lit- urgy, music, faith formation, special events, and countless ways to make a difference.

Would you like to become a Parish- ioner? Come to the Upper Room (gym) today (Sunday) after all Masses and join us for “Welcome Sunday” and donuts.

Each Sunday, O God, we relive the wonders of your marvelous work of salvation and experience anew the power of Christ’s Easter victory.

By the grace of your Spirit, help us to recognize the Lord who comes into our assembly and stands among us, so that as a community of believers, one in mind and heart, we may with great power give our testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.   Amen.

C.A.R.E. CORNER

Today, on the second Sunday of the Easter season, we meet our church’s namesake in the story we have all come to know as Jesus’ encounter with the doubting Thomas. This is the first time the risen Jesus appears to the disciples. And the first words out of Jesus’ mouth are “Peace be with you.” We will hear these words again in the weeks to come as our gospels continue to report more appearances of the Resurrected Jesus. Why did Jesus keep saying “peace be with you” when He appeared to His followers? And what did He mean by it?
The idea of receiving Christ’s peace must have been an important one to the early Christian Church because 2000 years later, we still take the time to offer each other a “sign of peace” at every liturgy. Why do we do this, what does it mean, and why is it still important? Stay with us in the weeks to come as we explore the peace of Christ.

ALL-NFC NORTH TEAM By Bob McGinn Posted: Dec. 31, 2005 Scouts from each of the NFC North teams were asked last week to rank the top three players in the division at each position. They were not permitted to vote for their own players, and none of the comments that follow in the position-by-position rundown was made by a scout about a player on his own team. A first-place vote was worth three points, a second-place vote was worth two and a third-place vote was worth one. Asterisks denote unanimous selections. OFFENSE NO. 1 WIDE RECEIVER: *Muhsin Muhammad (Chi.), 9 points. Others: Donald Driver (GB), 7; Roy Williams (Det.), 5; Travis Taylor (Minn.), 3. Comments: Muhammad dropped 11 passes and cost the Bears $12 million in signing bonus, but he was light years better than the No. 1 from '94, David Terrell. "It's a bad group," one scout said. "If (Rex) Grossman had been the quarterback it'd have been easier to determine where Muhammad is at in his career." Driver had one of his finest seasons. "He's still a better 2 than he is a 1," one scout said. Williams ranks as a two-year disappointment. "He has to understand the difference between being hurt and being injured," one scout said. LEFT TACKLE: Chad Clifton (GB), 8. Others: Jeff Backus (Det.) and John Tait (Chi.), 6; Bryant McKinnie (Minn.), 4. Comments: Clifton had too many penalties but made first team for the third year in a row. "He's close to elite," one scout said.

I don’t mind people thinking I’m stupid, but I don’t want to give them any proof.“ - Bum Phillips, Houston Oilers coach OPENING OA (Bum) Phillips is the football equivalent of Yogi Berra, and the above quotation could be just as applicable to Chowds head coach Bill Belichick. Dr. Evil narrowly missed a fourth championship after jettisoning LB Willie McGinest, WR Deion Branch and K Adam (Money) Vinatieri. On Sunday, the chickens came home to roost, as Money contributed to an incredible comeback win by the Indianapolis Ponies. As the 2006 NFL season makes its final turn, the Look Man is thrilled to have witnessed some incredible action. The Conference Championships were simply the crowning glory to a season that saw New Orleans rise from the ashes of a 3-13 season to nearly represent the NFC in the Bowl. The Ponies overcame the weight of expectations, becoming this season’s version of the Blitzburgh Stillers down the stretch. Chicago has parlayed a ball-hawking defense and streaky QB into a championship run in the weak NFC. New England nearly reclaimed its championship ways despite an injury depleted defense and a receiver challenged offense. It has been a season for the ages and Sunday did not disappoint. Meanwhile, the rest of the league keeps on turning. Cincinnati had its ninth player arrest of the season. Bill (Tuna) Parcells decided to promote Grecian Formula instead of coaching the melodrama in Allas (no D).

To put that “36” in context, since the NFL’s inception in 1920, there have been 1,705 clubs that have played at least seven games in a season (counting the number of teams each season). That 36 who went 7-0 computes to .02 – two percent of all NFL teams. So the Colts’ 7-0 is rare indeed. The number of teams to begin a season 7-0 and beyond: SOME START! Season Start Number of Teams Season Start Number of Teams 7-0 36 11-0 10 8-0 23 12-0 4 9-0 20 13-0 3 10-0 16 14-0 1 The Colts are ready for November and beyond.

The game will be televised on ESPN. ,create a football jersey Special teams: The San Diego special teams' cost the Chargers a playoff spot last year. The unit was a disaster. New special teams coach Rich Bisaccia has a great reputation and should be able to help this unit. It starts in this game. San Diego head coach Norv Turner raved this week about Bisaccia’s impact on the unit. He expects instant dividends. Turner also said the Chargers have improved their talent at several areas of special teams. So, it’s clear the team is ready to see what this group has to offer against the Seahawks. Donald Butler and Jonas Mouton: The two young inside linebackers are fighting for a starting point. Butler was a third-round pick last year who missed the entire season with an injury. Mouton was a second-round pick this year. This is a big test for both players as the Chargers look for a replacement for the steady Kevin Burnett, new nfl jersey, pink football jersey, who signed with Miami.
