Somos Maxwell November 8, 2020 Del Escritorio del Director I hope you and your family have been enjoying the beautiful weather of this weekend! This past week at Maxwell we were able to recognize students for multiple accomplishments. Specically, this past Monday in the Seesaw announcements, we celebrated our winners for our three monthly awards. These are traditionally given during our school monthly celebrations. This year we will use a video process to communicate the information. On Friday, we were able to acknowledge the winners of the costume day and our rst round of schoolwide Golden Cat Paw recipients. Each recognized individual will receive a certicate in the mail along with some special items. Please continue to watch Seesaw morning announcements for recognitions and additional details. Congratulations to all of our Maxwell students for their accomplishments! On Thursday, report cards for the rst quarter were mailed. Please look for the reports in the mail and communicate with your child's teacher if you have any questions. This past week Maxwell continued to implement targeted services for small groups of students. Please see this newsletter for additional details about this program. The reporting procedures for the state in regards to COVID-19 have been enacted. Please continue to see this newsletter for details. Whether your student is learning at home or in-person, we need everyone to report. The Maxwell Family Resource Center that is shared with Ashland Elementary is here to serve our community. In this week's newsletter you will continue to nd a link for holiday assistance. Please continue to reach out to our FRC Coordinator, Dionne Jermeia, directly if your family has specic needs. Please also note that the Maxwell PTA has partnered with the FRC to assist with a winter clothing drive. Please see this newsletter for additional information. As we plan for a return to school in January, we are capturing vital information to assist with our planning. Tomorrow you will receive a message from the school through IC regarding second semester enrollment. Please look for this special communication tomorrow. Thank you for your partnership as we continue to strive to provide the best learning opportunities and outcomes for the students of Maxwell. Our learning community will persevere this school year as we celebrate "30 años volando alto y continuamos la aventura juntos"! Robert Crawford, Principal COVID-19 Reporting A new emergency order from the state requires that beginning Monday, September 28, all families must report if their child tests positive for COVID-19 within 24 hours of receiving the test results. The district is then required to report numbers of positive cases and numbers of quarantines to the state, regardless of whether we are learning virtually or back on campus. To make things easier for families, FCPS has established a COVID-19 reporting team to collect all information condentially and ensure accurate and transparent reporting. If your child tests positive for COVID-19, all you have to do is dial 859-381-FCPS (3277), email your name and phone number to [email protected], or ll out the online form at www.fcps.net/covid19. The FCPS reporting team will then complete the required process. Please note that the online link is available in multiple languages. Targeted Services Plus In September, the FCPS Board voted to allow small groups of elementary school students to be able to receive targeted assistance beginning the week of October 19. This provision is allowed under guidance provided by the state. The last week of October, grade levels and school leadership met to revise the plan to expand the service offerings to additional students. The plus version of of targeted services launched on Thursday, November 5. Note that initial invitations to the targeted services plus plan have been issued. If your family did not receive an invitation for targeted services plus and you feel that your student might meet the grade- specic criteria, please contact your child's teacher to have a discussion for potential services. Note that we are restricted by state guidelines in regards to the number of students and individuals we are allowed to have in the building at specic times. The focus of the targeted services plan is to provide supplemental support to students. The state has identied the specic activities of therapy, mental health/ academic counseling, or tutoring for the services. Working with guidance from the state and district, Maxwell's plan includes the following provisions: The program operates in the afternoon for two hours between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, to correspond with bus transportation options provided by the district to elementary schools. We are limited to no more than 15% of the building capacity. Each room may only have 15 individuals, including teachers and staff. We adhere to strict safety and cleaning procedures and protocols as dened by the state, district, and school. All services are supplemental to what students are already receiving during NTI-2DL instruction. The plan aligns to the goals of our CSIP and our school mission. We have used student assessment data and performance data from NTI-2DL to assist with the prioritization of student participation. As part of this process, each grade level or service unit has established a set of criteria for which to provide initial recommendations Please see a link to our original plan on our website and the videos for the safety protocols and procedures. Please also see the link to the new expanded plan for which we will be able to bring new students to the program.
