[ISBN 974-626-847-3] อาจารยที่ปรึกษาวิทยานิพนธ: รศ.ดร. ชยันต พิเชียรสุนทร, ผศ.ดร.จุลรัตน คนศิลป, อ. ประธาน ฦาชา บทคัดยอ ชนชาติกุยเปนกลุมชาติพันธุหนึ่งในหาสิบกลุมชาติพันธุที่ไมใชไตในประเทศไทย และอาจเปน กลุมชาติพันธุแรก ๆ ที่เขามาตั้งถิ่นฐานอาศัยอยูทางตอนใตของภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของประเทศไทย การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงคเพื่อศึกษาประมวลแนวคิดในเชิงทฤษฎีในระบบการแพทยพื้นบานของกลุมชาติ พันธุกุย และยาสมุนไพรที่ใชบําบัดโรคหรือความเจ็บปวยตาง ๆ กลุมประชากรที่ใชในการศึกษาครั้งนี้เปน หมอพื้นบานชาวกุยจํานวน 388 คน ซึ่งตั้งถิ่นฐานอยูในพื้นที่จังหวัดสุรินทร ศรีสะเกษ และอุบลราชธานี โดยการศึกษาเชิงลึกกับหมอพื้นบานจํานวน 30 คน วิธีวิจัยที่ใชในการเก็บรวบรวมขอมูลประกอบดวยการ ใชความจําแบบเสรี บันทึกขอมูลดานสุขภาพ การสังเกตการณโดยนักวิจัย การสังเกตการณโดยผูเขารวม โครงการวิจัย การเก็บรวบรวมตัวอยางสมุนไพร และการสัมภาษณ ผลที่ไดไดวิเคราะหและประมวลเปน แนวคิดในเชิงทฤษฎีในระบบการบําบัดรักษาความเจ็บปวยของหมอพื้นบาน พบวาโรคและความเจ็บปวย ที่หมอพื้นบานชนชาติกุยใหบริการบําบัดรักษาได มี 100 โรคหรืออาการ ใชรูปแบบการเตรียมยาแตกตาง กันได 9 วิธี ใชเครื่องยาสมุนไพรจํานวน 374 ชนิด นอกจากนี้ยังไดวิเคราะหภูมิหลังทางสังคมของหมอ พื้นบานที่ศึกษาในเชิงลึก ผลการศึกษาไดแสดงใหเห็นวาบทบาทของหมอพื้นบานในระบบการแพทย พื้นบานถูกกําหนดโดยความสามารถในการใชยาสมุนไพรและการบําบัดรักษาความเจ็บปวย ทรัพยากรธรรมชาติในทองถิ่นเปนปจจัยสําคัญในการเลือกใชใชยาสมุนไพร และปจจัยอันเปนภูมิหลังทาง สังคมของหมอพื้นบานมีผลตอองคความรูในการใชยาสมุนไพร Arika Virapongse. 2006. [ISBN 974-626-847-3 Thesis Advisors: Assoc.Prof. Chayan Picheansoonthon, Assist.Prof. Julraht Konsil, Mr. Prathan Luecha ABSTRACT The Kui indigenous group is one of fifty non-Tai ethnic groups in Thailand and they may be distinguished as the earliest residents of the southern part of Northeast Thailand. The purpose of this study was to define the role of traditional healers within the Kui ethnomedical system, and examine their uses of materia medica for the treatment of health conditions. Three hundred and eighty-eight Kui healers from Surin, Si Sa Ket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces were surveyed, and thirty healers from six districts of these provinces were selected for in-depth study. Research tools used to collect data included profile, socio- demographic, treatment methods, interviews, free-lists, health condition logs, observation, and specimen collection. The results of this study describe and analyze the healers’ treatment system, 100 health conditions, 9 types of preparation methods, 374 types of materia medica, and 14 socio-demographic factors among the thirty Kui healers. These results signify that the roles of healers within the traditional medical system are defined by their uses of plants and treatable health conditions, patterns of materia medica used are evident among healers, local natural resources of healers affect the way that they use plants, and socio-demographic characteristics of healers affect their materia medical knowledge. Alex Boye Aim: This study evaluated the anti-inflammatory property of an ethanolic leaf extract of Polyscias Department of Medical Laboratory fruticosa and safety for use in ovalbumin-induced asthma. Historical Setting of the Guianan Plant Heritage The Guianas are embedded high in the green shoulder of northern South America, an area once known as the "Wild Coast". They are the only non-Latin American countries in South America, and are situated just north of the Equator in a configuration with the Amazon River of Brazil to the south and the Orinoco River of Venezuela to the west. The three Guianas comprise, from west to east, the countries of Guyana (area: 83,000 square miles; capital: Georgetown), Surinam (area: 63, 037 square miles; capital: Paramaribo) and French Guiana (area: 34, 740 square miles; capital: Cayenne). Majuro Atoll THE VASCULAR PLANTS OF MAJURO ATOLL, REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS ABSTRACT Majuro Atoll has been a center of activity for the Marshall Islands since 1944 and is now the major population center and port of entry for the country. Previous to the accompanying study, no thorough documentation has been made of the vascular plants of Majuro Atoll. There were only reports that were either part of much larger discussions on the entire Micronesian region or the Marshall Islands as a whole, and were of a very limited scope. Previous reports by Fosberg, Sachet & Oliver (1979, 1982, 1987) presented only 115 vascular plants on Majuro Atoll. In this study, 563 vascular plants have been recorded on Majuro. INTRODUCTION The accompanying report presents a complete flora of Majuro Atoll, which has never been done before. It includes a listing of all species, notation as to origin (i.e. indigenous, aboriginal introduction, recent introduction), as well as the original range of each. The major synonyms are also listed. For almost all, English common names are presented. Marshallese names are given, where these were found, and spelled according to the current spelling system, aside from limitations in diacritic markings. A brief notation of location is given for many of the species. The entire list of 563 plants is provided to give the people a means of gaining a better understanding of the nature of the plants of Majuro Atoll.

Blume) รองลงมา คือ เสี้ยวป่า (Bauhinia saccocalyx Pierre) และแดง (Xylia xylocarpa (Roxb.) W. Theob. var. kerrii (Craib & Hutch.) I.C. Nielsen) ตามล าดับ ส่วนไม้ต้นชนิดที่มีค่าดัชนีความส าคัญสูงที่สุด คือ เสี้ยวป่า ติ้วเกลี้ยง และแดง ตามล าดับ ค่าดัชนี ความหลากหลายของไม้ต้น มีค่าเท่ากับ 3.6656 ค่าความสม่ าเสมอในการกระจายตัว มีค่าเท่ากับ 0.7995 ค่าความหลากหลาย มีค่าเท่ากับ 39.0785 นอกจากนั้นพบว่ามีไม้พื้นล่าง จ านวน 61 วงศ์ 137 สกุล 145 ชนิด ไม้พื้นล่างชนิดที่พบมากที่สุด ได้แก่ พลูช้าง (Scindapus officinalis

It starts with an overview of the industry today. Rather than providing a reliable source of paper needed by the people of Thailand, however, the industry today is dependent on imports, exports and lavish subsidies from the government and international “aid” agencies. The Thai government has actively supported the development of the industry, through subsidies, pro- cash crop and plantation policies, tax relief and favourable import duties on machinery imports. The second section looks at some of the government support, and includes a brief introduction to some of the background political situation in the country during the early 1990s. The third section looks at some of the international support to the industry in Thailand, largely through multilateral and bilateral “aid”. The fourth section looks at some of the Thai companies involved in the pulp and paper sector. While they have made profits, they have also run up enormous debts. This, accompanied by the economic crisis in 1997, has opened the door for international companies to buy up shares in Thai companies. Some of these companies are also profiled in this section, along with international consultants who provide advice and legitimacy for the industry. Associated with the expansion of the pulp and paper industry, the area of fast-growing tree plantations has also expanded, often with disastrous impacts for many local communities.

Three bisdesmosidic saponins 3-O-[-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)--D-glucuronopyranosyl] oleanolic acid 28-O--D-glucopyran- osyl ester (1), polyscioside D (2), and 3-O-{-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-[-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)]--D-glucuronopyranosyl} oleanolic acid 28-O--D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)--D-galactopyranosyl ester (3) were isolated from a methanol extract of Polyscias fruticosa (L.) Harms leaves. Compound 1 was obtained as a main constituent and compound 3 was reported for the first time and named as polyscioside I. Saponin 1 inhibited porcine pancreas -amylase and yeast -glucosidase activities while 2 and 3 were inactive. Synergistic inhibitory effect on -amylase was observed from the combination of low concentrations of 1 and acarbose. The findings suggest the use of P. f r uti cos a and its major saponin 1 for the prevention and treatment of diabetes and its complications.

One hundred and ninety-five (195) medicinal plant species were collected from the national park to examine allelopathic potentials by using the sandwich method, a specific bioassay for the evaluation of leachates from plants. The study found 58 out of 195 medicinal plant species showed significant inhibitory effects on lettuce radicle elongation as evaluated by standard deviation variance based on the normal distribution.
