PART -A PREAMBLE

Kodagu, a small district in Karnataka, is known for its natural beauty. Its pristine glory is enriched by the blessings of Goddess Kavery and Lord Igguthappa. The district also figures on top in the areas of defense, education, sports, culture, and commercial crops.

Cauvery college Gonikoppal, established in the year 1968, is a pioneer institution of Higher Learning in Kodagu. Its visionaries had dreamed of an institution that caters to the educational needs of rural areas of Kodagu. Their dreams are duly upheld through the various facets of success the college has made through its journey over these years making an impact in the field of education and even elsewhere. Though started with basic courses of BA, BSc, BCom- with the students strength of 90, today the college has ventured on the phenomenon of expansion introducing various courses like BBM and BCA in under graduation and MA in Economics and M.Com in post graduation. The college has a whopping strength of 1028 students, training and nurturing these young minds a total of 43 teaching and 30 non-teaching staff work relentlessly. The college has completed 47 fruitful years imparting quality higher education. The college is re-accredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC. NAAC peer team appreciated our effort and guided us to perform well in all sphere of activities. To improve the NAAC grade in the coming years we have constituted the IQAC committee consisting of academicians from local society. IQAC meeting was convened by the IQAC chairmanto implement the action plan. The meeting was attended by the IQAC members from the management, staff and nominees from the local society. There was good interaction among the members of the IQAC and lot of suggestions were brought forth.

1. Our students have created history by securing ranks in various disciplines, i.e. Miss Akshatha Shetty secured fourth rank in M.Com, Miss Jyothi J Nayak secured Ninth rank in BCA & Miss Ashwini H.B secured Tenth rank in BA respectively.

3. Department of Economics conducted Socio Economic survey on ``The Household Demand & Supply of Water’’ in Isth block Uma Maheshwari Layout & also on ``Impact of Demonetization’’ on the public. Students of the Department of Economics participated in ECO-ZENITH ECO-FEST held at Puttur Philomena’s college on 17-02-2017 and won Runners up Trophy.

4. The department also invited Brahmakumaris from & Mysore to advise the students on education , morality & personality development.

5. Department of Political Science was inaugurated by Justice Mohan Prabhu -sponsored by district legal authority. Mock parliament was organized by the students on 16th Jan 2017.Advocate Anupama Kishore gave a talk on Children’s Rights. 6. The department also organize Personality development programme on 29.09.2016. Counsellor SudhaVasanth was the Resource person.PPT presentation was arranged on World war -2 on 10.08.2016.

7. The department organized Dr B.R Ambedkar Jnana Sampathabhiyana in collaboration with social welfare department, Karnataka Govt on 28.02.2017.

8. Department of Geography had organized guest lectures on Geomorphology by Prof. N Deveraju and on “Agricultural Products, Diseases and Marketing” by Dr. Shaju George.

9. History Association was inaugurated on 31-07-2016 by Rtd. Prof. BellathandaK.Appachu.

10. Orientation Programme was conducted by the department of history on 18-07-2016.

11. On 28-01-2017 118th Birth Anniversary of Field Marshall KM Cariappa. Mr. Rtd. SP. MukkatiraChotuAppaiah enlightened the students with topic “Life and Achievements of KM.Cariappa”.

12. Department of Kannada had organized a special lectures for final optional students on Indian Literature and Criticisms by Dr. P S Prabhu. The optional students and staff visited ArameriKalancheri Matt as part of their study tour.

13. Department of English had organized students seminar on Romantic Literature. The English Literary Association was

14. Department of Hindi celebrated Hindi Day on 14th September 2016 and had organized a guest lecture to mark the occasion. The department arranged a class seminars, quiz competition & Elocution Competition for students

15. Departments of Commerce and Management together organized District level CA/CS/ ICWA orientation programme by Mr. Anshuman A S on 9thAugust 2016. A guest lecture by AkashDube on “How to face Banking Exams” was organized on 6th August 2016.

16. Students of BBA had organized new product development activity. A PPT presentation by final B.Com students on “GST” was exhibited.

17. Commerce and Administration departments collaborated and have successfully conducted a Commerce and Management Fest “SIRUS” on 31st Jan 2017.

18. The department of Science organized National Science Day on February 28th 2017.

19. Department of Mathematics conducted Students seminars in January 2017. The students were taken on a visit to vismaya park on 21st January 2017. A talk on aptitude and reasoning was arranged for second BSc on 28-1-2017. 20. Department of Chemistry organized a guest lecture for IIB.Sc on 28-08-2016 by rtd. Prof M.P. Monnappa.

21. The department has undertaken Research project on the study of coffee outturn and moisture determination under the guidance of Dr.J.Ponnamma Machaiah

23. A guest lecture was organized for I B.Sc by chethanchinnappa on the topic reagents and liquids on 11-02-2017.

24. Department of Physics arranged a guest lecture by SmtSusheela K.L., FMKMC College,Madikeri on 10th Sep 2016 on Nanotechnology and a talk by Prof.Nagaraj K.P.,FMKMC college, Madikeri on OCT 5th 2016. Astrophysics.

25. Students of II B.Sc (CBZ) visited KrishiVigyana Kendra, Gonikoppal on 28/11/2016. There they acquired information regarding cattle farming.

26. Department of BCA conducted inter collegiate “Achinthya Tech” fest for PUC and BCA colleges of Kodagu and Mysore District on 10th September 2016.

27. 17 students of BCA participated in Pinnacle Fest conducted by St. Philomena College, Puttur and bagged 1st Prize in Quiz Competition, 2nd Prize in paper presentation and 2nd Prize in Dance Competition.

28. The department of BCA conducted a passport mela for students and outsiders in the campus.

29. Final BCA students are undergoing project internship.

30. Department of M.Com supported environment friendly activities by planting saplings of endangered species. They have organized verity of programmes like fresher’s day, teacher’s day, conducted seminar and setup industrial visit to Infosys Mysore. The students of the department have also been part of “Swatch BharathAbhyan” by organizing a slogan writing competition. Students have attended a leadership camp conducted by M R Pai foundation Mumbai on 29th and 30th August 2016.

31. Department of M.Com organized a state level Commerce and Management fest ‘SAAKSHAATHKAARA 2K17’ on 21.02.2017. The department organized a programme on investment management on 24-10-2016.

32. Department of M.A Economics conducted a seminar on Demonetarization on 08.12.2016. The department took students on industrial visit to KSIC Mysore.

33. Department of M.A Economics organized a state level Economics fest ‘ECLAT-2K17’ on Saturday the 18th of March 2017. Students of M.A Economics participated in ECO- ZENITH ECO-FEST held at Puttur Philomena’s college on 17- 02-2017 and won Runners up Trophy.

34. Our college men’s team has won the state level Tchouk ball championships held at Bangalore, organized by the Tchouk ball Association, Karnataka.

35. Floor ball team have emerged state champions in the tournament organized by the state Floor ball Association at Gonikoppal.

36. The Men’s Hockey team won state level inter collegiate hockey championship organized by Hockey Coorg and also won inter collegiate Hockey Championship.

37. Our students AvinashT.T III B.Com, Poovanna B.M of III BA, Sachin of I BCA represented Karnataka state in National Floor ball championship held at Greater Noida and won Gold medal.

38. Sahana V.T of III B.Sc, Dharani K.M of II B.Com and Dechamma K.H, KaushlayaB.C ,Monisha K.A, Bhavana K.H of I B.Com represented Karnataka state in National Floor ball championship held at Greater Noida and won bronze medal.

39. Miss Kavana V.B of I M.com got selected Mangalore University in Hockey team.

40. Our college Foot ball team won silver medal in university Mangalore zone inter collegiate championship and won 4th place in inter zone championship.

41. Mr. Arun T.G of II M.A was adjudged as best forward of the Mangalore University in Football championship.

42. CheriyapandaKushalappa Memorial Mangalore University inter collegiate Hockey tournament was organized on 17.02.2017.Our Men’s team emerged as winners.

43. Rural women’s meet was held on 26.03.2017.

44. Enrolment of cadets for NCC was held on 18th July 2016 by commanding officer Col. Sanjay Dutta, Second officer Ganesh and Training JCO Thimmaiah, monitored the selection procedure.

45. The activities of the NCC wing of our college took a formal start with combined annual training camp at NavodayaVidayalayaGalibeedu , in which 8 senior wing and 8 senior division cadets participated with Lt. Dr. Beena S.N.

46. Our cadets were also part of International Yoga day celebration organized at Coorg Public School, Gonikoppal. Cadets attended basic leadership camp at Mysore and 6 of them were selected for advanced leadership camp.

47. TSC camp was held at Shivamogga, 3 cadets took part and two were selected to attend a TSC level 2 camp at Moodabidri.

48. Our cadets were part of RDC selection cum CATC camp held at Moodabidri.

49. Our senior under officer Vikas .M.S of II B.comrepresented the 19Karnataka battalion, Madikeri at the 68th Republic day parade at Delhi.

50. Our NCC cadets took part in National Integration camp held at Coorg Public School, Gonikoppal and combined Annual Training camp held at Puttur.

51. NCC wing conducted one day Rifle training camp to help cadets take up ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificate examination and 40 cadets took up ‘B’ certificate and 9 cadets took up ‘C’ certificate examination this year.

52. S.S.Nazeera – SUO was selected as a member of the senate as a student representative of the University of Mangalore.

53. 4 of our NSS volunteers were part of the leadership camp held at Mangalore University.

54. NSS volunteer Sharath N.P of II B.Com participated in RD selection camp and Volunteer Poovaiah M.S of II BBM participated in National Integration camp held at Bellary.

55. NSS annual camp was conducted from 22nd to 28th December 2016 at Balyamundoor.

56. The NSS unit celebrated Independence day, Sadbhavana day, NSS day , Gandhi jayanthi, Swami Vivekananda jayanthi with patriotic fervour.

57. NSS volunteers turned good Samaritans, Pushparaj, Pradeep, Vignesh, Krishna, Lawrence and Mahendra helped Mallappa aged 28 years found in the streets of Devarapura and admitted him at District hospital Madikeri for treatment. The same volunteers found rama aged 75 years on the streets of Gonikoppa and abandoned by his family and helped him lead a respectable life by placing him in Sri ShakthiAshrama at Koodige.

58. Rangers and Rovers organized an orientation day for the students on 25th June 2016. They conducted Swach Bharath campaign on 13th August 2016 and celebrated all the National festivals with great enthusiasm.

60. The career guidance and placement cell commenced its activities by conducting Dr. Chengappa Memorial. District level Quiz competition.

61. The cell had organized two day leadership camp sponsored by Forum of Free Enterprise Mumbai. A lecture on Investment Management was organized and MrMahendra from Geojit BNP PARIBAS was the resource person.

62. A campus recruitment drive by Nandi Toyota Bangalore for the post of Sales Executives was organized and 109 students of Final year participated of which 25 candidates were selected.

63. District level Job mela was organized on 25.03.2017 in collaboration with district employment department, VAAP Technologies,

64. The Alumni Association of our college has been playing a key role in our progress. The official website of Alumni Association was launched on 10th August 2016. The association has donated a water tank for the college and has come forward with the agenda of constructing of Administrative block.

65. Dr. M.P Rekha, HOD. Department of Kannada presented a paper onKodava short stories in the National Seminar

She has edited the translation of 2500 vachanas published by BasavaSamithi, Bangalore. The same book will be released by Hon. Prime Minister NarendraModi on 29.04.2017 at Delhi.

66. Mr. Sachin George of department of Chemistry attended a national level seminar at NIE College, Mysore.

67. Smt. Rajani S.M Department of Kannada delivered a talk on ‘The status of Ancient Classical language against the Back drop of Ancient Kannada literature’ held at Kalancheri mutt, Virajpet.

68. Smt. Savitha P.P HOD department of Hindi attended a two day conference at University college, Mangalore.

69. Mrs.NayanaThammaiah completed her M.Phil. with Distinction on the topic “Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction for Academicians” in 2015-16. and she is pursuing her P.hd in commerce. She has published an article on her P.hd. topic in 2015-16.

Student’s assessment of teachers is introduced in all the courses. Annually student’s appraisal of teachers is undertaken at the end of academic year. This year also in the month of February appraisal was done. The Governing body of Cauvery Education Society meets every teacher to discuss the positive and negative aspects as indicated by the students in the appraisal

Multi-Purpose Indoor stadium is constructed.

30. Activities and support from Alumni Association:

We have an active Alumni Association. Principal Associate Prof.P.A.Poovanna is the president Mr, Prof. T.M Devaiah is the Vice-President, Mr. Manu Nanjappa is the Treasurer, Mrs. Vani Chengappa is the Secretary and. Mrs. Rajani S M, Convenor and a team of dynamic directors lead this association. The alumni association Donated a Water tank worth for `.2,00,000 this academic year. They have paid the fee for some students who couldn’t afford to pay the fee. The Alumni association is registered under Co-operative act recently & they have opened their website and are active in contributing to the development of the college.

Parent – Teachers’ Association contributed their fund for laying tiles & Granite at the entrance, in the quadrangle. They have donated coffee plants that are planted in the garden.

1. . Our college men’s team has won the state level Tchouk ball championships held at Bangalore, organized by the Tchouk ball Association, Karnataka.

2. Floor ball team have emerged state champions in the tournament organized by the state Floor ball Association at Gonikoppal.

3. The Men’s Hockey team won state level inter collegiate hockey championship organized by Hockey Coorg and also won inter collegiate Hockey Championship.

36. Various Activities conducted under the guidance and counseling unit:

Guidance and Counseling is a regular feature of our college. Teachers are appointed as facilitators to each class to guide the students. A part time counselor has been appointed to counsel the students. Each teacher is allotted 25 students for guidance and counseling. The teachers meet their counselees twice in a semester to discuss their personal and academic related problems. Proper guidance is provided by the counselors. Regular personality development classes are conducted and placement service is provided to students.
