SHADOWS OF SHOAH 13 February 2016 - 8 May 2016 | Golden Homes Gallery

Shadows of Shoah is a multidisciplinary exhibition created to communicate the significance and gravity of the Holocaust in a unique and artistic way. The Shadows of Shoah exhibition is largely the work of New Zealand photographer and composer Perry Trotter, with research and interviews by Sheree Trotter. The exhibited work is based on interviews of Holocaust survivors from around the world and presents selected poignant incidents from these survivors' experiences. The Holocaust is quickly passing from society's consciousness and many now have no knowledge at all of this most pivotal of events. For many, the Holocaust has become merely a faceless statistic or historical anomaly. In such a culture, Shadows of Shoah seeks to introduce the Holocaust via brief, artistic, emotionally powerful presentations that convey the incomprehensible human tragedy in a deeply personal way, and to connect with media savvy young people in particular. The exhibition utilizes multiple HD projectors, HD monitors, motion sensors, custom control software, control PCs, LED lighting and audio equipment, all housed in a 7.76m diameter circular enclosure. The Shadows of Shoah Exhibition has been described as unique, ground-breaking, cutting edge and beautifully produced. The exhibition runs until 8 May and would be of interest to your History, English and Social Sciences students although it has relevance to all students. The exhibition itself can be viewed in approximately 25 minutes and there is no charge. There is also the possibility of having a representative from the Holocaust Centre in Wellington come and speak with your students too during your visit (subject to availability). Further information about this exhibition and relevant resource material can be found at www.shadowsofshoah.com

Volleyball

Volleyball has got underway this term with 3 senior teams and 2 junior teams. We got off to a bumpy start with students and parents not realising that sport registrations forms MUST be completed before students can play for the college. Unfortunately this meant withdrawing 2 senior teams from the competition and the students missing out on playing.

Ruarri Schoeman (Year 11) has passed his Volleyball New Zealand Local Referees Course and is now umpiring the Junior Games. Congratulations Ruarri! Montana Hepi and Crystal Ruatara (year 12) both attended the College Sport Wellington introduction to volleyball coaching course at Te Rauparaha Arena this term. Montana is now coaching the Junior Girls Teams on a Thursday after school.

Touch Touch got underway this week we have over 30 students playing touch under the guidance of Parent Coach Brett Keno. Both teams showed a lot of promise so we look forward to some good results.
