The Legislative Council Sessional Committee Government Administration a Met in the Long Room, House of Assembly, Parliament House, Hobart, on Friday, 1 September 2017
PUBLIC THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL SESSIONAL COMMITTEE GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION A MET IN THE LONG ROOM, HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, PARLIAMENT HOUSE, HOBART, ON FRIDAY, 1 SEPTEMBER 2017. KING ISLAND SHIPPING AND FREIGHT SERVICES Mr RICHARD LOWRIE, INCAT, WAS CALLED, MADE THE STATUTORY DECLARATION AND WAS EXAMINED. CHAIR (Ms Forrest) - We invite you to talk about yourself, your business and, if you are happy to, about your expertise in the area of addressing freight problems for a small island, if you think there are some options within your business and how that might reflect on the terms of reference of the committee. Mr LOWRIE - I am employed with Incat and have been for over 21 years. I was in a sales and marketing role for the first 13 years, which required a lot of travel and living overseas for the company, getting a good handle on the market and a handle on other islands and other areas similar to King Island. I then moved into a human resources role, which has been my role for the last seven-and-a-half years, but I still very much dabble in sales. We are still trying to develop markets in regions closer to home as well - it is quite exciting as to where that may go - hence, a lot of that work especially in Indonesia of late with their multiple islands and all the issues they face. We feel that with that personal experience and certainly with my boss, Robert Clifford, our product technology has developed to a stage where we think there are different options for King Island and Bass Strait. -

Heavily inspired by 20th-century Russian artists like Malevich and Kandinsky who had a new vision of art, which was characterized by colorful abstract shapes. This new 40.5mm Russian mechanical watch was delivered to our office for a hands-on review, and it caused quite a stir in the process… The fun began when the package arrived. The Raketa box is colorful, decorated with a lot of abstract shapes on its cover. When I pointed my iPhone with Google Translate app at the text on the box, it threw-out “Watch Factory” and “Russia”. The brand name is readable without using that app. Some of the other words are apparently too difficult for this app to translate into English, so perhaps there is a secret message written on the box for the lucky millions that speak Russian without needing to rely upon an app. Inside the gray box, there are two cards. One is an invitation to visit the Raketa factory in Saint- Petersburg. The other one is the warranty card of this “Avant-Garde” watch. Sitting in the gray box, on a gray pillow, is the colorful Raketa “Avant-Garde” watch. -

From the Ocean's Depths to Your Wrist: the Raketa Leopard 24
HOME ABOUT ARTICLES THE HAULOGERIUM CONTACT Dimitri Tsilioris 2 days ago 2 min read From the Ocean's Depths to Your Wrist: The Raketa Leopard 24 Located in Saint-Petersburg on the shores of the Baltic sea, the Raketa Watch Factory has had a long and strong tradition in producing watches for Soviet seamen and submariners. Raketa's affinity with the ocean has led it to create its latest timepiece, the Leopard 24. This is a distinct piece that's not only full of character but also carries with it a physical bit of its inspiration from the "Leopard" Akula-class submarine. The Akula-class submarine first entered into service with the Soviet Navy in 1984 and since then has become one of the world's most advanced marine vessels. Each Akula-class submarine has its own designated name, with the "Leopard K-328" being the vessel that donated its metal to Raketa for the Leopard 24 timepiece The Leopard 24 was developed with the help of Captain Valery Dyakonov who supervised the pre-launch stages of the Leopard, conducted its sea trials and was its first commander until 1996. The original metal from the "Leopard L-328" Akula-class submarine was used to make the bezel, but the Leopard 24 features many distinctive details of a true submariner's watch. Its hands replicate the design of the hands in the control panels in the submarine, the dial and hands are luminescent to allow the submariners to read the time in the dark and there are 6 lines (in red and grey colours) dividing the perimeter of the dial into 6 quarters (4 hours each), allowing each submariner to keep count of his shift times in the submarine. -

HOME BY BRAND BY FUNCTION BY TYPE TECHNICAL GUIDES VIDEOS SHOP Shop In-Depth The Raketa Polar Watch, a Faithful Reissue of Russia’s Iconic Exploration Watch A limited edition to celebrate one of the most famous Soviet watches. 14 hours ago | By Brice Goulard | 10 minute read | 43 If you think about the natural habitat for watchmakers, images of picturesque places in Switzerland, Germany or Japan might pop up. This is true… today! But back in the golden age of mechanical watchmaking, there was another major player on the watchmaking scene: Russia. And we’re talking millions of watches a year, produced during the Soviet era. The dissolution of the Soviet Union and aggressive privatizations had a dramatic impact on the local industry, until recently and the renewal of Russian watchmaking. Today, we’ll take a closer look at the main representative of this recent rebirth, and also one of the historical Russian brands: Raketa. Today, Raketa launches a reissue of one of its most iconic pieces. Let’s have a closer look at the objectively very cool Raketa Polar Watch (and yes, it’s all made in Russia). RAKETA IN HISTORY The Raketa Watch Factory, founded by Emperor Peter the Great in 1721, is Russia’s oldest factory still active today. Created rst to cut semi-precious stones to adorn the Royal family’s palaces (and then known as the Imperial Lapidary Factory), it was, under the Soviet era, transformed into a watchmaking company. First by delivering jewel bearings for manufactures, then becoming a movements and watches factory. -

Problems with a steam generator were the likely cause of the protection system activation. Rosenergoatom reported a normal level of background radiation at the plant. The Volgodonsk power plant began operating in 2001. It is situated some 1,000 km (621 miles) south of Moscow and has a single pressurized water reactor. —"Radiation Level Normal at Volgodonsk NPP After Emergency Shutdown," RIA Novosti, 1 January 2010, http://en.rian.ru; "Volgodonsk NPP Shuts Down First Power Unit in Emergency Mode," RIA Novosti, 1 January 2010, http://en.rian.ru. -
A Quest to Give Russia a Luxury Brand - the New York Times
15.10.2020 A Quest to Give Russia a Luxury Brand - The New York Times https://nyti.ms/36WR6gK A Quest to Give Russia a Luxury Brand The goal of Raketa’s managing director? To have his line of watches resonate globally, like Prada and Gucci. By Penelope Colston Oct. 12, 2020 ST. PETERSBURG, Russia — Amid the roar of Soviet-era machinery, Sergei Andreev seemed lost in concentration as he sat at the helm of a clunky-looking contraption that produces pallet forks, among the tiny components in mechanical watch movements. Wearing blue coveralls and a solemn expression, he could have been a worker from a bygone industrial age. But this was modern-day Russia, where the 23-year-old Mr. Andreev is one of the 84 workers at the Raketa watch factory, a sprawling 16,145-square-foot two-level facility that dates from 1721 and today houses about 600 vintage machines. The factory has a rare status in the watchmaking world: It produces all but a few of the 242 parts in the brand’s in-house movement, the Raketa- Avtomat, including the pallet fork and the even tinier hairspring, which regulates the oscillation, or “heartbeat,” of a mechanical watch. (Only a few small components, including jewels and leather straps, are purchased from Russian suppliers.) Mr. Andreev’s pallet forks were destined for the 30 models that make up Raketa’s three collections of mechanical watches — Classic, Tool and Curiosity (avant-garde) — all priced from 800 to 2,000 euros ($940 to $2,350). The manufacturer also occasionally produces quartz watches for special collaborations.
