Welcome to University Tripura University, since its inception has been engaged in its pursuit of academic excellence in this remotest and landlocked part of the country. Starting from a modest P.G. Centre of Calcutta University, over the past 33 years, this institution has grown from a State University to a full-fledged Central University in 2007. While offering quality teaching and learning at the Post Graduate level, the University also encourages cutting edge research experiences in different science and technology disciplines. With Memorandum of Understandings with several National and International Institutions and numerous patents to its credit, the alumni of this University are well settled in different nooks and corners of this world. Notwithstanding its marginal location and other communicational disadvantages, this university has always tried to compete with other universities of the country in terms of academic achievement, research and innovation and placement records, which have been well reflected in its NAAC Assessments and NIRF ranking. The Tripura University Act envisages that the objective of the University shall not be only "to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities" in the state in areas of contemporary relevance to the society and the country (with the motto "pursuit of excellence") but also to make special provisions for studies in tribal life and culture and to introduce vocational subjects with a view to provide employment opportunities to the students. The Act specifically enjoins the University to organize specialized diploma, degree and post-graduate courses in certain subjects. The University has 46 Departments offering 58 programs to students from entire Eastern as well as Bangladesh. Every Department has state of the art classrooms, laboratories, 24-hours internet connectivity, computer centre, library, free Wi-Fi facility across the Campus, playgrounds, open theatre, health centre, bank, Cafeteria, post office, food court, hostels, guest house etc. The teaching faculties are dynamic, caring and friendly. Academic & curricular sessions are regularly complemented with sports and other socio cultural activities like film screening, musical performances, art festivals, debates, intra-University fetes, sports tournaments, walkathons etc. Tripura University offers a vibrant campus life and one of the safest and most secure academic environment in the entire Northeast. The Campus has a vast scenic landscape with lakes, forests, hillocks and flower and fruit gardens offering a serene and tranquil backdrop. The groves of trees, fragrance of flora, calls of flocks of birds, swarm of butterflies, reptiles etc. ease away the drudgery of academics, thereby relaxing and rejuvenating a student's mind. This prospectus for the academic year 2020-21 provides necessary admission related information, the courses offered by the various departments along with corresponding eligibility guidelines and fee structure and a sample admission form. Tripura University wholeheartedly welcomes the young talents to be a part of its family. We build not just successful academicians, researchers, managers, professionals, bankers, but also good human beings.

2 Profile

Tripura University is one of the 49 Central Universities in India which has been established on 2nd July, 2007 under an Act of the Parliament to establish a teaching and affiliating university in the state of Tripura and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. This university is the offspring of the world famous Calcutta University. Initially the University was established as a State University on 2nd October, 1987 with the enactment of the Tripura University Act in the Tripura Assembly, in deference to the long cherished aspirations of the people of the state. Being keen votaries of academics and culture, the erstwhile kings of Tripura had always patronized education in the remote state. Therefore from 1947 onwards, many colleges were established in the state with affiliation from Calcutta University. In 1976, the University Grants Commission (UGC) formally recognized the Calcutta University Post Graduate Centre (CUPGC) which was housed at College Tilla, , and it functioned as the highest centre of learning in the state for over a decade. In 1985, a new campus for the CUPGC was established in a green 75-acre, semi-urban setting on the National Highway at Suryamaninagar (present location of the Tripura University), about 9 kms south of the capital city Agartala with the aim of setting up a full-fledged University. The foundation-stone was laid at Suryamaninagar campus on 18th December, 1985 by Shri Dasaratha Deb, the then Deputy Chief Minister - cum - Education Minister of Tripura. After its upgradation to a Central University in 2007, Tripura University has developed considerably and efforts were taken to strengthen the infrastructural facilities in the academic arena vis-à-vis the overall development of the University. There are a large number of colleges affiliated to the university. The number of affiliated Colleges at present is 46 among which there are 27 General Degree Colleges, 17 Professional Colleges, 4 Paramedical and Nursing Colleges and 2 Medical Colleges. The University at present runs various programs under Science, Arts & Commerce Faculty. A total number of 58 programmes are offered under this University, including Certificate Courses, Under Graduate, Post Graduate Diploma and other Post Graduate Programs. In addition to these, Ph.D programmes are also offered in 38 subjects.
