It was indeed an honor to join many friends in supporting this year’s GAA Honoree – Joe Prunty, where there was great support from the United Irish Counties Assoc., Cork Football Club & Celtic Football Club paying tribute to the man from Longford, and revered by many in the Leitrim GFC. Many Thanks to Cork Association members & Officers for their support of Bronx Community College’s Irish Heritage St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon, where LT. Col James C. Gonyo and “your truly” was honored. It was a most enjoyable day for my parents, family & friends in attendance. Belated Congratulations also to Siobhan Dennehy, Executive Director of the EIIC - Emerald Isle Immigration Center, who received the Irish Heritage Award from NYC City Council Speaker Christine Quinn for their contribution/volunteers of Irish Action responding to Super storm Sandy. Siobhan was also presented a public service Award from AOH, Division No. 3 of Bronx County for the EIIC’s vital role in the Northwest Bronx – Woodlawn Irish American Community, and was most recently guest speaker at the memorial dedication service of Thomas & Kathleen Clarke in Manorville, NY. Kudos to the Irish Famine Tribunal Committee www.irishfaminetribunal.com for the most extraordinary and Historical event held April 20-21st at Fordham law School. It was a learning experience that everyone appreciated, from Law Students to historians, to attendees. Hopefully, this was just the beginning of an opportunity to dialogue the great tragedy of “An Gorta Mor”. Thanks to Cork members Michael Gubbins & Mae O’Driscoll for your dedicated representation on this committee. Lastly, our hearts are burdened by the senseless Boston Bombing, which tragically affected members of the Irish American Community. The Richards family has experienced tremendous loss over the death of their son Martin, and their 7 yr old daughter’s leg injury. There will be a New York “Dance Out for Jane” and Musician event at the Kerry Hall on Saturday, April 27th, 2013 1-6 pm. St. Sebastian’s St Patrick’s Day Dance: On Sunday April 14th our own past President Mary Waters was honored by her parish for her outstanding dedication and work to St. Sebastian’s Parish. There was a large contingent of County Cork members to honor her and enjoyed the festivities. The evening was enjoyed by all with great food and entertainment by our own Mickey Peare and his band. “Dance Out for Jane”: Please come out and show your support for the family of Jane Richard, the 7-year- old step dancer who lost a leg in the Boston Marathon Bombing at the Kerry Hall 305 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, New York 10705 on Saturday April 27 2013 from 1pm to 6pm. 90% of proceeds donated to the Richard Family Fund and 10% of proceeds to the Leukemia Foundation. Get Well wishes: Prayers for John McAree, Joan Dorgan's husband & son in law to Mike & Frances Dorgan. They have 2 children ages 9 & 13. John suffered a serious head injury in a construction accident helping a friend in Rockaway on Sunday morning and is in critical condition in Jamaica Hospital Queens. Please keep John, the McAree & Dorgan family in your prayers. Also, prayers for James & Shirley Waters, Dan O’Neill, Philip McGrath, Kay Hallacy & Denis McCarthy Sr. as well as for Mary-Anne McCarthy’s sister - Kitty Spedden.
