It was indeed an honor to join many friends in supporting this year’s GAA Honoree – Joe Prunty, where there was great support from the United Irish Counties Assoc., Cork Football Club & Celtic Football Club paying tribute to the man from Longford, and revered by many in the Leitrim GFC. Many Thanks to Cork Association members & Officers for their support of Bronx Community College’s Irish Heritage St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon, where LT. Col James C. Gonyo and “your truly” was honored. It was a most enjoyable day for my parents, family & friends in attendance. Belated Congratulations also to Siobhan Dennehy, Executive Director of the EIIC - Emerald Isle Immigration Center, who received the Irish Heritage Award from NYC City Council Speaker Christine Quinn for their contribution/volunteers of Irish Action responding to Super storm Sandy. Siobhan was also presented a public service Award from AOH, Division No. 3 of Bronx County for the EIIC’s vital role in the Northwest Bronx – Woodlawn Irish American Community, and was most recently guest speaker at the memorial dedication service of Thomas & Kathleen Clarke in Manorville, NY. Kudos to the Irish Famine Tribunal Committee www.irishfaminetribunal.com for the most extraordinary and Historical event held April 20-21st at Fordham law School. It was a learning experience that everyone appreciated, from Law Students to historians, to attendees. Hopefully, this was just the beginning of an opportunity to dialogue the great tragedy of “An Gorta Mor”. Thanks to Cork members Michael Gubbins & Mae O’Driscoll for your dedicated representation on this committee. Lastly, our hearts are burdened by the senseless Boston Bombing, which tragically affected members of the Irish American Community. The Richards family has experienced tremendous loss over the death of their son Martin, and their 7 yr old daughter’s leg injury. There will be a New York “Dance Out for Jane” and Musician event at the Kerry Hall on Saturday, April 27th, 2013 1-6 pm. St. Sebastian’s St Patrick’s Day Dance: On Sunday April 14th our own past President Mary Waters was honored by her parish for her outstanding dedication and work to St. Sebastian’s Parish. There was a large contingent of County Cork members to honor her and enjoyed the festivities. The evening was enjoyed by all with great food and entertainment by our own Mickey Peare and his band. “Dance Out for Jane”: Please come out and show your support for the family of Jane Richard, the 7-year- old step dancer who lost a leg in the Boston Marathon Bombing at the Kerry Hall 305 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, New York 10705 on Saturday April 27 2013 from 1pm to 6pm. 90% of proceeds donated to the Richard Family Fund and 10% of proceeds to the Leukemia Foundation.     Camogie Association & GAA Information and Guidance leaflet on the National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 March 2015 1 National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Act The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 is the vetting legislation passed by the Houses of the Oireachtas in December 2012. This legislation is part of a suite of complementary legislative proposals to strengthen child protection policies and practices in Ireland. Once the ‘Vetting Bureau Act’ commences the law on vetting becomes formal and obligatory and all organisations and their volunteers or staff who with children and vulnerable adults will be legally obliged to have their personnel vetted. Such personnel must be vetted prior to the commencement of their work with their Association or Sports body. It is important to note that prior to the Act commencing that the Associations’ policy stated that all persons who in a role of responsibility work on our behalf with children and vulnerable adults has to be vetted. This applies to those who work with underage players. (The term ‘underage’ applies to any player who is under 18 yrs of age, regardless of what team with which they play). The introduction of compulsory vetting, on an All-Ireland scale through legislation, merely formalises our previous policies and practices. 1 When will the Act commence or come into operation? The Act is effectively agreed in law but has to be ‘commenced’ by the Minister for Justice and Equality who decides with his Departmental colleagues when best to commence all or parts of the legislation at any given time.

    Sligo GAA Development newsletter Summer 2017 Sligo U-15s continue to work hard The Sligo U-15 squad has had a busy year to date, with several blitzes coming up for this talented outfit. Under the tutelage of inter-county referee Michael Duffy, the panel has shown great work ethic since coming together earlier this year after their winter break. A comprehensive win over Mayo at Quigabar was their most recent outing, and Michael says the squad are showing very well so far in 2017: “We are training once a week and then the lads work away themselves on Strength and Conditioning programmes as well,” Michael said. Michael continued: “They are a very good group with a fantastic interest and they are great to work with. We had a national blitz in Roscommon with two squads taking part – we beat 2 Roscommon teams and Tipperary. We beat Cavan in Cavan and Fermanagh in Scarden, so we are going fairly well so far.” Weekly training continues for the squad this month, with those sitting the Junior Certificate set to re-join the panel for the remainder of the year at the end of June.     Introduction GAA Games Development 2014 Annual Report for the Irish Sports Council GAA Games Development 2014 A Annual Report for the Irish Sports Council @GAAlearning GAALearning www.learning.gaa.ie Foreword Foreword At a Forum held in Croke Park in June 2014 over 100 young people aged 15 – 19 were asked to define in one word what the GAA means to them. In their words the GAA is synonymous with ‘sport’, ‘parish’, ‘club’, ‘family’, ‘pride’ ‘passion’, ‘cultúr’, ‘changing’, ‘enjoyment’, ‘fun’, ‘cairdeas’. Above all these young people associated the GAA with the word ‘community’. At its most fundamental level GAA Games Development – through the synthesis of people, projects and policies – provides individuals across Ireland and internationally with the opportunity to connect with, participate in and contribute as part of a community. The nature and needs of this unique community is ever-changing and continuously evolving, however, year upon year GAA Games Development adapts accordingly to ensure the continued roll out of the Grassroots to National Programme and the implementation of projects to deliver games opportunities, skill development and learning initiatives. As recognised by Pierre Mairesse, Director General for Education and Culture in the European Commission, these serve to ‘go beyond the traditional divides between sports, youth work, citizenship and education’. i Annual Report for the Irish Sports Council. GAA Games Development 2014 2014 has been no exception to this and has witnessed some important milestones including: 89,000 participants at Cúl Camps, the introduction of revised Féile competitions that saw the number of players participating in these tournaments increase by 4,000, as well as the first ever National Go Games Week - an event that might have seemed unlikely less than a decade ago.

    2021 GAA MEDIA GUIDE Treoirleabhar na Meán 2021 @officialgaa 2021 GAA Media Guide - Teachtaireacht ón Uachtaráin Ba mhaith liom fáilte a chur romhaibh go léir ar ais chuig ár gcluichí The last 14 months have come as a challenge to us all and while we have some distance to travel before we can once again look forward to big games with full stadiums, there are green shoots ahead of us. Who could have known in mid-March last year when we took the decision to shut our activities down, that the Covid challenge would still be front and centre as the summer of 2021 approaches? The best of the GAA shone as we grappled with profound changes to our lives and the supports provided by our club and county network to those who needed them most was both heartening and reassuring. Our games when they returned were a welcome tonic. The club championships and all of the activity that preceded them helped breathe life back into communities right across the GAA family. Similarly, in the darkest days of winter the inter-county games provided us with a focal point and a welcome distraction as we grew accustomed to supporting our players and teams from afar. In the coming weeks, the Allianz League games will come thick and fast and the interest and excitement will follow. We have shown flexibility in organising our competitions, most notably in football where again a straight knockout approach will apply. I would like to acknowledge the buy-in from everyone concerned in helping to make both last year and this season work, and I have no doubt that the entertainment value and profile of the games will be as high as ever.
