February 4, 2021 the Honorable Alejandro Mayorkas U.S. Department of Homeland Security Washington, DC 20528 Dear Secretary Mayor

February 4, 2021 The Honorable Alejandro Mayorkas U.S. Department of Homeland Security Washington, DC 20528 Dear Secretary Mayorkas: We write to express our concern at the recent Executive Orders signed by President Biden regarding immigration and border security. These Executive Orders, as well as recent actions taken by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), will weaken the integrity of our immigration system and encourage aliens to make the dangerous journey to our southern border and attempt to enter the United States illegally. The decision to halt construction of the border wall system, the decision to suspend enrolling aliens in the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), and the attempt to suspend deportations all send a message to aliens that the Biden Administration is not serious about border security or enforcing our immigration laws. These actions, coupled with Democrats’ repeated talk of amnesty, will be a magnet for illegal immigration and will encourage aliens to place their safety in the hands of criminal organizations to try to reach the United States. This is not good for the aliens or the United States. We urge you to resist the calls of the open borders advocates and to continue to enforce the immigration laws passed by Congress, continue MPP and the Asylum Cooperative Agreements, and resume construction of the border wall system. We hope that as you examine the policies that were enacted by the Trump Administration in an impartial manner you will come to realize the wisdom behind the policies and will work to refine them when necessary instead of rescinding them and returning to policies of open borders and catch and release.

For 53 years, South Carolina Republicans have gathered together each year to forget... celebrate our party’s conservative principles, as well as the donors and activists who help promote those principles in our government. While our Party has enjoyed increasing success in the years since our Elephant Club was formed, we always have to remember that no victories are ever perma- nent. They are dependent on our continuing to be faithful to do the fundamen- tals: communicating a clear conservative message that is relevant to voters, identifying and organizing fellow Republicans, and raising the money to make it all possible. As we gather this evening on the anniversary of the tragic terrorists attacks on our homeland in 2001, we’re reminded about what’s at stake in our elections this year - the protection of our families, our homes, our property, our borders and our fundamental values. This year’s election offers us an incredible opportunity to continue to expand our Party.

Passage of the Homeland Security Spending Bill, Including an H2B Visa

December 21th, 2018 The Honorable Lindsey Graham United State Senate 290 Russell Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510 Dear Senator Graham, On behalf of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce we ask for your help securing the state’s seasonal workforce through the H2B Visa program. Our most pressing need is the passage of the final fiscal Homeland Security Spending Bill, which includes an H2B package crafted by Senators Tillis and Harris that would: • Increase the annual H2B cap to 132,000 visas • Require the Department of Labor to report to Congress every 2 years. • Provide for the proportional and quarterly allocations of H2B visas, regardless of dates of need • Preserve access to the program for compliant seasonal employers • EVerify work eligibility Several South Carolina companies who depend heavily on seasonal workers have been notified their H2B applications were not approved in the cap applied to the first half of the fiscal year. Others that have an employment beginning date of April 1, 2019, are worried they too will not receive the approval needed to secure their workers. The state does not have the local workforce needed to support the millions of visitors to South Carolina each year without securing the needed visas. The H2B visa program is a critical component to our state economy, of which tourism makes up over $21 billion. Thank you in advance for your help on this issue. Please let me know if we, or any of our chamber partners, can be of assistance. Sincerely, Ted Pitts 1301 Gervais St. President and CEO Suite 1100 SC Chamber of Commerce Columbia South Carolina 29201 803/799-4601 Fax 803/779-6043 CC: Senator Tim Scott, Congressman Jim Clyburn, Congressman Joe Wilson, www.scchamber.net Congressman Jeff Duncan, Congressman Tom Rice, Congressman Ralph Norman, Congressman Joe Cunningham, Congressman William Timmons .
