This is an amazing book from an amazing SoulBy Dave PazThis is an amazing book from an amazing Soul. For fans of Fairport Convention, Giles, Giles Fripp and Trader Horne as well as the late 60s and early 70s vibes happening. So many good stories to read and for the price its really a great deal. She goes into detail about her journey starting out and going thru the different changes in different bands. I am a fan of all 60s british psychedelic sounds and their various subgenres, so this was pure gold for me to digest. Thank you Judy for sharing your stories and I know years from now people who are interested in these times will find the book and really appreciate it. A wonderful magical read and inspiring too. It's so great that she's writing and recording again!0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Four StarsBy JAMES I.GOOD BOOK Judy Dyble is a legend. The original female singer for Fairport Convention she left the band after their first album aged only 19, thinking her world had ended. The other members felt that her style of singing wasnrsquo;t powerful enough (Judy does have a very ethereal voice). She was replaced by Sandy Denny, of course. Judy's boyfriend at the time was Ian McDonald. He knew Robert Fripp, who was on the point of forming Giles, Giles and Fripp, the forerunner of King Crimson. Judy joined this band, but left when her relationship with McDonald ended. She then teamed up with ex-Them singer Jackie McAuley to form Trader Horne. In 1973, Judy left the music business when she married DJ Simon Stable, who was Count Simon De La Bedoyere (this makes Judy a real life Countess!). Amongst other things they started a tape duplication business, though she did put in the odd appearance at Fairport Conventionrsquo;s Cropredy Festival.Simon died in 1994 and Judy was knocked sideways for several years, which she movingly relates in the book. In 2003, she felt able to restart her musical career and has produced several albums to great critical acclaim. 2015rsquo;s 3-CD anthology sold out immediately and was well reviewed in Prog magazine, amongst others. This book is a very human story of life, love and loss, which seems to capture the zeitgeist. Both Viv Albertine (The Slits) and Tracey Thorn (Everything But The Girl) have written memoirs outlining their lives in and out of music (like Dyble, Albertine was only in the business for a couple of years but has come back to great acclaim in the last few years). This story is written with top music writer Dave Thompson who writes sympathetically and with style. About the AuthorBorn in 1949, Judy Dyble was the original female singer with Fairport Convention, replaced by Sandy Denny. She then teamed up with Robert Fripp for Giles, Giles and Fripp before forming Trader Horne with ex- Them singer Jackie McAuley. She married In 1973 and left the music business. Her husband died in 1994, which devastated her, In 2003, she felt able to restart her music career, releasing albums to great critical acclaim. She is probably better known now than at any other time in her life. This is her first book.Dave Thompson is the British born author of over 100 books, largely dealing with rock and pop music (The Fall, Ozzy Osbourne, Rod Stewart, The Sparks and many more), but also covering film, sports, philately, numismatics and erotica. He lives in Newark, Delaware and is married to writer Amy Hanson. • Them-Van Morrison Chronology 1956-1967
Compiled from books, articles, press clippings, liner notes, interviews (numerous radio/TV/press audio/video interviews with relevant information have yet to be transcribed), contracts (and private correspondence) too numerous to cite properly. Most of these materials are of public record, though located only through extreme diligence, while a scant few come from private correspondence with individuals who had first-hand documentation/knowledge/experience of these events. August 31, 1963 is the earliest specifically noted date, Van's 18th birthday, celebrated in Heidelberg, West Germany while on tour with "The International Monarchs". Them had, from best accounting, 15-16 working lineup changes before Van Morrison departed circa August 1966. This document is anti-copyright, to be freely copied and distributed for information and research purposes. Criticisms, corrections (doubtless there are many, as all primary source material contained discrepancies throughout...help with UK geographics especially appreciated), ADDITIONS, and verifications are greatly encouraged.
