    The Vol. 1 Issue 7 M a vTropical e r Paradise i c k May 2, 2011 By Meghan Darnell The Kiowa County High School Junior-Senior Prom was held at the Greens- This Month’s burg Recreation gym on April 16th. The promenade began at six in the evening, followed directly by the dinner. The prom theme was Tropical Night and the Features juniors decorated with tiki men and palm trees. For dinner, the juniors chose to o serve pork loin, a mashed potato casserole, green beans, Hawaiian rolls and fruit bowls with a key lime pie dessert. Honor At the dance, attendants were subjectivly entertained by a swing dance by Mr. Banquet... and Mrs. Calkins along with a dance-off between senior Shannon Webster and pg. 6 another student’s date. It was a very upbeat dance with two-steps, line-dances and the right balance of fast and slow songs. After the dance, students were allowed 30 minutes to change, and then were n bussed to the Mullinville gymnasium for After-Prom. At the After-Prom party, students were provided with a vast variety of games to win either cash or tickets for four big prizes that would be drawn at the end of the night. The big prizes were an Apple I-pad, an automobile tune-up set, a camera, an X-Box 360, a tele- vision and Blu-ray player and an I-pod touch. There were also prizes for guessing State Music... games. He has performed in numerous venues on the east coast, including multiple appearances as a collaborative pianist at Carnegie Hall. Andy recently completed a Ph.D. in Piano Pedagogy and Music Education from Florida State University, where he was active as a solo and collaborative pianist for the department. Andy also taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Class Piano for FSU and currently maintains a private studio throughout Tallahassee.     Jewish Experience on Film An American Overview by JOEL ROSENBERG ± OR ONE FAMILIAR WITH THE long history of Jewish sacred texts, it is fair to characterize film as the quintessential profane text. Being tied as it is to the life of industrial science and production, it is the first truly posttraditional art medium — a creature of gears and bolts, of lenses and transparencies, of drives and brakes and projected light, a creature whose life substance is spreadshot onto a vast ocean of screen to display another kind of life entirely: the images of human beings; stories; purported history; myth; philosophy; social conflict; politics; love; war; belief. Movies seem to take place in a domain between matter and spirit, but are, in a sense, dependent on both. Like the Golem — the artificial anthropoid of Jewish folklore, a creature always yearning to rise or reach out beyond its own materiality — film is a machine truly made in the human image: a late-born child of human culture that manifests an inherently stubborn and rebellious nature. It is a being that has suffered, as it were, all the neuroses of its mostly 20th-century rise and flourishing and has shared in all the century's treach- eries. It is in this context above all that we must consider the problematic subject of Jewish experience on film. In academic research, the field of film studies has now blossomed into a richly elaborate body of criticism and theory, although its reigning schools of thought — at present, heavily influenced by Marxism, Lacanian psycho- analysis, and various flavors of deconstruction — have often preferred the fashionable habit of reasoning by decree in place of genuine observation and analysis.

    COMPLETE FILM NOIR (1940 thru 1965) Page 1 of 18 CONSENSUS FILM NOIR (1940 thru 1959) (1960-1965) dThe idea for a COMPLETE FILM NOIR LIST came to me when I realized that I was “wearing out” a then recently purchased copy of the Film Noir Encyclopedia, 3rd edition. My initial plan was to make just a list of the titles listed in this reference so I could better plan my film noir viewing on AMC (American Movie Classics). Realizing that this plan was going to take some keyboard time, I thought of doing a search on the Internet Movie DataBase (here after referred to as the IMDB). By using the extended search with selected criteria, I could produce a list for importing to a text editor. Since that initial list was compiled almost twenty years ago, I have added additional reference sources, marked titles released on NTSC laserdisc and NTSC Region 1 DVD formats. When a close friend complained about the length of the list as it passed 600 titles, the idea of producing a subset list of CONSENSUS FILM NOIR was born. Several years ago, a DVD producer wrote me as follows: “I'd caution you not to put too much faith in the film noir guides, since it's not as if there's some Film Noir Licensing Board that reviews films and hands out Certificates of Authenticity. The authors of those books are just people, limited by their own knowledge of and access to films for review, so guidebooks on noir are naturally weighted towards the more readily available studio pictures, like Double Indemnity or Kiss Me Deadly or The Big Sleep, since the many low-budget B noirs from indie producers or overseas have mostly fallen into obscurity.” There is truth in what the producer says, but if writers of (film noir) guides haven’t seen the films, what chance does an ordinary enthusiast have.
