It is a hill and road in the municipality of Maarkedal, in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The slopes of the hill are paved in cobbles, with a road gradually winding upwards from the Maarkedal brook to the top in Kerzelare village, 3 km east of Oudenaarde. The Taaienberg is of strategic importance in the Tour of Flanders, depending on its position in the route. It’s steepest slopes make it a level higher in difficulties for the mountain bikers. This survey is Tom Boonen’s favorite hill and is therefore also called “Boonenberg”. It’s one of the best cycling destinations in East Flanders with amazing views and a worth experiencing track.
