+ - Quality It~MOREHEAD - STATI: lNVERSITY Did you know that Morehead Slate University has implemented a licensing program to protect the use of University marks and the consumer? In February 1993 MSU took steps to protect the marks of the University by restricting their use. This program allows the University to monitor the quality of the products and ensure that the consumer receives quality merchandise when purchasing an MSU garment or item. The program also allows MSU to positively promote the University and generate revenue that can be used to fund scholarships. So, what is licensing? Licensing Is the process of contracting for the rights to use a trademark. copyright. or patent belonging to an institution or other business entity. For the University. it is the ability to protect our marks. promote the institution. and generate revenue. Considering that the consumer associates the quality of a product carrying the MSU logo with the University. MSU wants to assure that association Is a positive one.

With a few exceptions. the licensing fee is a standard cost passed on to retailers and consumers. even if that fee isn't collected by the Institution with registered marks. In the case of MSU. the licensing program revenue potential was a missed opportunity to share in profits from MSU merchandise.

Sa how will you. the consumer. know if you're buying oHicia lly licensed merchandise? Retailers play a key role in the success of a licensing program. They are encouraged to carry only licensed products and to let MSU know about potential licensees. As the licensing program progresses. all officially licensed products will carry a tag or label identifying merchandise as oHicially licensed. This is your assurance that the product has met high quality standards.

Remember the next time you're shopping for MSU merchandise. look for the Collegiate Licensed Product Label. This label is your assurance that you're buying a quality product . We've labeled the quality to accentuate the positive.

If you're interested in learning more about the Morehead Stale University licensing program. contact the Licensing Administrator. Morehead State University, 319 Allie Young Hall. Morehead. KY 40351 or call (606) 783-2274. 32 MSV Eagles
