Welcome to Treasure Island Center The “Before” Pictures The Treasure Island Story Treasure Island Center is positioned to rejuvenate the center of downtown Saint Paul in the same way CHS Field brought new life to the Lowertown neighborhood and Xcel Energy Center stimulated business growth along both Kellogg Avenue and West Seventh Street. And, because of the unique features at TRIA Rink, heavy traffic is expected year-round.
1960s to 2001: Hometown favorite Dayton’s department store is a bustling retail hub in the center of downtown Saint Paul, originally offering products and services on five levels, including two levels below grade.
2001: The store is rebranded to Marshall Field’s.
2006: The store is rebranded to Macy’s.
2013: Macy’s closes its doors and the building is abandoned.
2014: The Saint Paul Port Authority purchases the building to gain site control of this important property located in the heart of downtown with easy access to the light rail transportation system.
2016: The Saint Paul Port Authority forms a joint venture with Hempel Companies to secure private funding and development support for the project; the Port Authority's interest in transferred to Capital City Properties (the Port Authority’s nonprofit arm).
2016: Minnesota Wild signs the first lease agreement.
2017: Excitement for the project grows with multiple entities committing to space: Walgreen’s, Tim Hortons, Stacked Deck Brewery, TRIA Orthopaedics, City of Saint Paul and Minnesota Housing. There are more to be announced.
