THINGS TO DO HORSE SENSE For anyone looking to tap into their inner cowboy, the Pocono Mountains region offers ample opportunity. From horse-drawn hayrides to riding stables to dude ranches, horsing around is a year-round activity in the region.

Horseback riding is a major activity on the 800 acres of trails at the Malibu Dude Ranch in Milford in Pike County. Out of the saddle, visitors can enjoy archery, a shooting range, fishing, a rowboat on the lake or a game of horseshoes, and in colder weather, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and ice skating.

COOL COMPANY A NEW LEAF It is appropriate that a community named Green Township would be the home of a plant-growing operation.

All Fresh Farms, an indoor hydroponic production and packaging operation, set up shop in Pike County in 2015, where it plans to grow and package lettuce mixes, kales and basil year-round.

The Florida-based company acquired a 50,000-square- foot former manufacturing facility on a 10-acre site, where it is investing more than $3.4 million. All Fresh plans to double the size of the facility within the first five years of operation and create at least 200 new jobs over the next three years.

The company received nearly $900,000 in grants and tax credits through Pennsylvania’s Department of Economic and Community Development. The company said the leafy vegetables and other produce from the Pike County operation will be labeled “locally grown” and delivered to markets within 400 miles, including Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and .
