Coupled with optimism over the fitness of prop Elliot White and the versatile Sam Rogers the senior squad is gradually returning to greater strength and depth. There is, as ever, a down side. Fly half Harvey Young will need time to recover from the broken jaw he sustained at Redruth and the back row curse has not gone away. Saturday 20 th October 2012 DINGS CRUSADERS v CANTERBURY National Official League Matchday DINGS Division Programme CRUSADERS RFC 2 South www.dingscrusaders.co.uk DINGS CRUSADERS RFC Chaucer Returns Today we welcome back Canterbury RFC back to Lockleaze to resume their quest within National League Rugby. After a season away they certainly bounced back at their first attempt and have had a fairly solid start with some impressive and some not so impressive performances. But weather permitting let’s hope today Dings can carry on where they have left off after the last couple of weeks of pretty impressive performances. Last weeks away day to the Isle of Dogs was certainly worth the trip. A fine performance on the day against a struggling team, but still a test at home, meant that we came away with 5 points, for 4 tries. Not only that but all 4 tries were scored by The Ladies, and I can’t remember the last time, that happened, it was probably when Gary James had hair! The trip was complimented by the presence of a true rugby legend in Jason Leonard. Resplendent in his jeans and what I think was his gardening sweatshirt, still he’s a big bloke and has lost none of his allure. Although 3 hours in the presence of John (Dai) Davis meant he went home battered and confused. This was further compounded when I was approached by our very own Matt Hudd, who asked who was Jason Leonard and did he play a bit? I suppose it can only happen to us.

ISSUE 21 Season 2019-20 18 December 2019 PARK HAVE TO DIG DEEP FOR VICTORY Welcome to Parknews. The Cinderford pitch passed an early morning inspection, immediately before receiving a Hugo Ellis bags the only try at heavy and prolonged burst of rain. Only some hard work by Cinderford [all 1st XV photos Cinderford people with pitchforks allowed the match to go by David Whittam] ahead at all. The conditions were certainly heavy and, combined with a strong wind, not at all conducive to the running rugby Park prefer to play. It looked very much a match to be won by the stronger pack – not nedessarily the ideal terms of engagement you would wish for when tackling Cinderford at Dockham Road. Park gave their all to dog it out for a hard-fought victory. Park started favoured by the wind, in a match of box kicks and forward drives. Each side got a penalty, but two excellent defences denied either side a sniff of a try in the first half. As the sun began to set in the second half the wind dropped and Park began to get a distinct upper hand. Cinderford could not run through Saturday 21 December Park’s brilliant and committed midfield tackling, and when they kicked to touch their lineout let them down badly. Against a less excellent defence Curtain Raiser Park might have won with a good bit to spare, but a committed maul, behind which Hugo Ellis needed every ounce of his strength to deposit the Park Rangers ball on the line, was the only score of the half.

The last two weeks have been something of a roller coaster ride for our 1st XV. The low was defeat by the narrowest of margins 29-30, last time out here against Cinderford. What made it all the more disappointing was that whilst we were never truly comfortable, we led 29-11 early in the second half. But thereafter it was all Cinderford as we struggled to regain any kind of foothold in the game. We withheld relentless pressure right up until the dying moments but credit to our visitors who ultimately, I believe deserved to take the spoils back to the Forest of Dean. The high only came after the final kick of last week’s top of the table clash in South London against Old Elthamians. With a dozen games still to be played the result was never going to be definitive but after the Cinderford set back we knew that we really needed to get something out of the game.
